bit of lore ig, billy sees paul everywhere and due to their resemblance, believes that paul is his (platonic) soulmate (no mcshears here) because he is extremely lonely and delusional.
billy stalks paul for a LONG time and billy impulsively visits him in the hospital after paul gets in a car accident that leaves him with a head injury. paul is now super paranoid believing he has an evil doppelgänger stalking him with malicious intent.
when he leaves the hospital, paul can’t help but see billy everywhere he goes and nobody believes him because of lingering damage of his head injury and the shock of the accident. he gradually stops leaving his house, paranoid of another accident or billy doing something to him. eventually, billy breaks into pauls home believing they should finally, officially meet and become besties!!!!!!
billy tries to talk to paul and tell him theyre soulmates but paul is too terrified to be reasoned with. now believing paul is just like everyone else who wronged him, he is enraged. he finds a hammer. billy finds paul and bludgeons him until hes unrecognizable. billy reflects on what hes done as he buries paul in the backyard. he blames paul for what he did and mourns the life they could have had. until he watches paul crawl right back out of his shallow grave.
