Chapter Text

2 hours pass by. The phones are dead now. It’s not like they were of any use besides counting down each moment until someone shows up. Bakugou has been scowling for 2 hours straight. You wouldn’t be surprised if the scowl’s physically etched on his face permanently.

You’re cold, wet, and running out of patience. The awning made a not-so-subtle sound, and when you looked up, You saw water pooling in the centre, which made the fabric sag. You had exactly enough time to think that’s not good before the whole thing dumped.

Cold water. A lot of it. Directly on us.

Bakugou jumped, pushing both of us away from it before it could do more damage. We both tripped and collapsed on the ground. For a second, we were pressed together, soaked, breathing hard, and staring at the awning that just betrayed us.

“That’s it.” Bakugou got up. “I’m walking.”

“In this?”

“In this. Stay if you want. I personally don’t wanna get killed by another one of your stupid ideas.”

“Never forced you to stay.”

“And I’m not forcing you to walk. Do whatever.”

You looked at the road. At the black stretch of nothing. At him, already several steps away, shoulders hunched against the rain, not looking back.

Fuck it.

“Wait,” You called out after him.

He stopped but didn’t turn around. “Hurry up.”

You had finally given up on keeping track of the time. The seconds stretched to minutes, the minutes stretched into hours. A long, winding road ahead with not-so-
great company. You had to walk 3 times your pace to keep up with Bakugou.

“Please slow down,” you said, breathing hard.

“I’m not fast, you’re just weak,” he shrugged and continued walking.

At this point, you were literally struggling. He was not letting you catch a break at all. In your attempt to pick up your pace again, your foot got caught on something, and you fell on the road, your face meeting the gravel.

“Ow,” you let out a shriek.

“Don’t tell me-” Bakugou turned and his eyes widened.

“The fuck? Can you not see?” He kept on nagging while he walked towards you.

“Can YOU not see? It’s your fault this happened,” You screamed at.

“You’ve got to be kidding me,” Bakugou scoffed.

He crouched down to assess the damage. His fingers wrapped around your ankle, gentle and efficient, checking the joint. You flinched.

“Not broken,” he said. “Sprained.”

“I can walk.”

“You can’t walk.” He was staring at the road, at the dark stretch ahead, at the nothing we’d been walking towards for hours. You could see his face twist as if he knew
you falling was his fault, but ain’t no way he was going to admit it. You decided to let it go as well.

“Get on,” He turned his back towards you. “Now.”

“What-”

“Get on, or I leave you here.”

He wouldn’t leave you. We both knew he wouldn’t. But the threat was easier than the ask, and you were too tired and too hurt to call him on it.

You wrapped your arms around his shoulders. He stood up, adjusting to your weight with a sharp exhale and started walking again. Slower this time.

His shoulders were broader than they looked. Hard. You tried not to grip too tight, but every time he stumbled on the uneven road, my fingers dug in, and he made a
noise. Not a wince, more like a sharp exhale through his teeth.

“Sorry,” you whispered.

“Don’t apologise.”

“You’re breathing weird.”

“You’re heavy.”

“You can put me down.”

“And the what? You hop the rest of the way?” He shifted his grip, arms tightening under your thighs. “Just… don’t move.”

“I’m not moving.”

“You’re breathing. That’s enough.”
