Chapter Text
Wifies had helped him up, quick as his arms looped around Parrot’s midsection. Hauling the avian up with a surprising amount of strength.
His multi color eyes scanned Parrot’s face, who looked exasperated. Void eyes looking into nowhere as he arranged his thoughts again, and again, until it made sense.
Because it didn’t.
He already went over this too.
Yet it has to make sense.
Wifies is alive, here and holding him up because Parrot is NOT paying attention to where his balance is. Which is weird, he’s dead. Parrot really needs to stop saying that, it makes his chest feel weird.
Eventually, his senses snapped back into reality. Wifies stared at him, like he was expecting an answer or something. Theo was a few feet away, shoulders tense. His talons gripped his crossbow.
Parrot’s mouth felt dry. He forced himself to say something “how..how are you here?”
Wifies face didn’t change from his easy comforting smile “well, I wandered into this..lab? I’m assuming it’s a lab, and I heard someone come in here and low and behold, it’s you” he answered smoothly.
Parrot must’ve made a weird expression, because Wifies raised a brow. The avian shook his head slowly, frown tight.
“No, no no- here and alive. You died, you, you..” he took a deep breath “in Paragon”
Wifies this time took his time with his answer. Parrot didn’t dare to advert his gaze from his former? Friend. Even if Theo was staring a hole into his head.
This was important, incredibly, universe breaking, important.
Parrot had time to count the amount of loose strands of Wifies’s brown hair before he replied “Well, I faked my death” he said simply, so painstakingly, simply.
It took him that long to say five words? No, there has to be more.
The avian frowned “that doesn’t explain anything! You already done that- you already died before, so why do it again?” Parrot sharply retorted, voice rough and desperate. Eyes burning again. Humiliating really.
Wifies released his hold on him, and Parrot nearly reached out to hold onto him. He didn’t dare to put his thoughts into action though.
Wifies looked at him sadly. His mutli-colored eyes found his as he frowned “Parrot, I.. I don’t.. I can’t properly explain why I’ve done the things I did”
He stopped for a moment, searching for the proper words “But I promise I’ll do better, I’ll learn from the mistakes I’ve made in the past” his lip twitched, eyes squinting.
“Just please, let me restart”
Something painful squeezed in his chest, like vines had tightened around his heart. His eyes widened, words not heard exiting his mouth properly in hopes for a reply. What was he supposed to say? To do?
Wifies had done such terrible things, had killed his friends and manipulated him. He used to stay awake rethinking everything, trying to read actions and words deeper than he should. As if Wifies left him a clue between lines of dialogue and actions. Anything to explain everything in a clear portrait.
No matter, it was futile.
Now he’s given a third chance of… of what? Redemption? A restart? A new beginning of his and Wifies’s friendship?
“Parrot say something please”
The avian sighed deeply, running a hand through his brown hair. Feeling the way his talons ran across the feathers in his hair “I just need time to think” he paused “Theo we need to leave”
And he turned tail. Away from Wifies, away from this new problem, puzzle? Whatever, maybe it was because of fear. Parrot needs to focus on why he came here in the first place.
Help the server, give rather than take.
Theo gawked behind him, scrambling out words that Parrot barely processed. All he knew is that the cockatiel eventually fell into step with him.
He also heard urgent footsteps up the staircase behind him. Wifies tugged at his sleeve, nearly caught him to fall. He was lucky Wifies immediately let go.
“Parrot, wait- please don’t leave”
The avian gritted his teeth and continued forward. Theo anxiously watched, debating on what to do. His brittle-ashy wings tight against his back as he put a hand against Parrot’s shoulder.
He abruptly stopped, balance tipping as Parrot shot a glare at Theo.
“Parrot, I don’t know what’s exactly going on. But I don’t think we should leave Wifies here..” Theo calmly said, shades hiding his eyes tactically.
“I- well, I..” he huffed, brows cinching “Wifies you killed my friends, you manipulated me! I can’t just forget that” he said with his back turned.
He sighed “if you want me to try to even consider forgiving you, then you have to prove it to me. I can’t trust you right now, and I’m sure you understand why” his voice shook. It’s so stupid, he should be sounding stern right now.
His wings offered more comfort than anyone could give right now, and he used that to provide little warmth he can as he ascended the stairs at a stable rate. His boots clicked against the stone. It took a few seconds too long before he heard two trailing ones.
His wings hugged his sides tighter. Fighting back the tightness in his throat while Parrot desperately rearranged himself. Forcing his mind to change the topic, because he’s wasting time by talking to.. to Wifies.
Unstable needs him.
He needs that treasure.
