Chapter Text
Cyan sadly, if dramatically, kicked their feet over their bed. Er, Lime's bed, rather. For the past few days, they'd been sleeping over with each other, subtly testing the boundries of their newfound 'friendship'. Usually it was Cyan who came into the room, wanting a warm embrace, but every so-often Lime would come into their room and they'd just...hang out. Normal friend stuff. At least, to them it was normal.
Neither would acknowledge such an oddity because, to them, an oddity wasn't what it was in the slightest. This was how they felt about each other, and they enjoyed that feeling, so why not sometimes cuddle in bed? It's just friend stuff. But as of late, the mystic couldn't help but feel like Lime was their only friend. Purple was usually busy, whether it be snooping around god-knows where, or actually doing their job. And Black is the whole reason they're kicking their feet right now. They just want to be friends. Best Friends. Like, the type of best friends who go to each others weddings and are there when their kids are born. Was that so much to ask?
Their sad sackiness eventually caught the attention of Lime, who was previously busy tinkering on some sort of blaster. Lime hesitantly crawled over to Cyan, kicking their feet over the bed as well. "Uhhh...you look. Sad." Lime awkwardly mummured out. They were trying, okay? Cyan melodramtically sighed, mimicking a fainting motion and leaning on Lime.
"I'm horriiiblleeeeee...Purple is busy, Black is mean...sniff....I just wanna get along with peeeoooppleeee!!!" Cyan cried out, pulling Lime in for a consolation hug. The mechanic gave a slight pat to Cyan's back, trying their best to comfort them whilst being as emotionally invulnerable as possible. The problem is; how the hell are they gonna do that!? "All my aura has been is grey, grey, GREY!.....well, aside from when I'm with you, Lime."
Stop that, stomach. Wait, what was that about auras? That's right! Cyan's not just about crystals, candles, and being cute, they like auras, too! "What does that even mean?"
"H-huh?"
"Grey aura. What does 'aura' even mean? And why isn't it Cyan? Or at least turquoise." The perfect plan. Cyan suddenly brightened up their visor, a gleam of pure joy spreading to their face.
"Auras aren't based on our color, silly! They're based on our feelings and emotions! My aura is usually very Green, since I'm a healer. But you're aura is different. It was originally a red, but I could sense a deep indigo beneath."
Huh. This kook-stuff was really interesting. Shoulda been a granted, considering Cyan's super smart, but Lime never got around to asking about this stuff. "The heck does bein' indigo mean? Or Red?"
"Ooo, ooo! They can both mean many things, but red for you was being short-tempered. But I could sense you were an indigo because really, you were just scared about being touched!" Cyan carelessly asserted, touching Lime by putting their hand to the mechanic's cheek. Lime felt a sudden surge of heat go to their face, before meekly slapping away Cyan's hand, causing the latter to giggle. "I actually have a journal all about this stuff!"
"What!? You don't mean..." Lime caught a lump in their throat as they spoke, a shiver coldly running down their spine as Cyan unleashed their greatest weapon.
"My dreaaaam journal!" Cyan spoke out with ethusiasm, whilst Lime was backing away into their wall so as to...not catch the dream journal disease? Look, even I don't know what's going on their head. Cyan pulled back a bit, a slightly more sensitive expression highlighting their face. At least, that's what it was at first. Then it turned into a look of realization, then hurt.
"Cyan? You alright big dog?"
"Is...is that why Black avoids spending time with me? Do I shove things in their face?" Ugh, again with this Black stuff. Not that Lime hated hearing about it, they just hated hearing about Black and their stupid 'better-than-you'-ness, and especially how they kept rubbin' salt in the wound when it came to Cyan. If you ask Lime, that salt was better off used on them.
Lime shrugged, trying their best not to let the obvious jealously righteous anger over this injustice take hold. "Black don't like nobody, why take it personally?"
"But it is personal! I'm their partner!"
There it goes again.
"We should work together! I don't know what I'm doing wrong!"
Lime had already exhausted all their options. A sad Cyan sucks, they hated seeing this. The only other possible thing to do, was...ughhhh, but they don't want to do that! Emotions are scary and new, and intimacy was weird and freakish and it scared them! They hated it! Nuh uh, no way. But seeing Cyan so torn up just...
It changed Lime. They changed Lime. Throughout this whole trek, Cyan saw the best in Lime. Whereas everyone else saw a mentally unstable kook, Cyan saw someone who just needed a friend. Maybe that's why they're so hung up on Black. Because to them, it's like how they helped Lime. Huh. The mechanic could've sworn they heard all this before...
Oh yeah, Cyan told them. With a new mindset, though an unsure one, Lime inched closer to Cyan, initiating contact with them by putting a hand on their shouder. "Look, uh...you shouldn't be carin' about Black this much. I-I know I say that a lot, but this time I mean it like, uh..." Lime mentally chastized themselves for their incompetence, Cyan already heard this!
"L-look, it's like an engine. You keep tryin' over and over and over and over to a put a piece in a place where someone else doesn't want it to go and they keep pushin' it away. So...why bother? You don't gotta stop tryin' to help, but maybe just...give it a few days or whatever. Try and sort stuff out on your own. Maybe then Black'll stop being such a jerk." As their deceptively insightful words spoke, Cyan felt their anger, their grey aura, be shifted away in favor of something far more...pink. More pink than it usually was around Lime. It felt more potent, more...connected.
"...That was r-really wise, Lime."
"It was? I was just sayin' stuff and waiting for you to start feelin' better. I hate seein' you get all mopey." For some reason, that's what really made it click to Cyan. Lime hates people, but Lime likes Cyan. And Cyan loves Lime. They pulled Lime into a more...cuddly embrace than before, more warm and mushy in a way that both overstimulated Lime and made them giddy.
They nuzzled against Lime more, causing the mechanic to pull down their bandana so as to hide their blush. "Thank you, Lime. You're my favorite crewmate in the world!" After a few seconds of Lime giddily kicking their feet, the embrace finally concluded. "Still don't know what I'm going to do about Black, though..."
Lime put their hand forward. "Just use this on 'em if they give ya trouble." They opened their hand to reveal...the blaster from earlier.
"You...want me to shoot them..??"
"Whah-!? No ya dope, it's holy water. I'm not goin' to jail again."
"Again? You've been to jail before?"
"...I'll tell you about it later. But for now, I'm gonna head to bed." Lime kicked their feet off the bed, going to leave before Cyan stopped them. "Huh?"
"..If you want, you could stay in my room tonight. The bed's big enough for two, and I've heard that sleeping together creates a healthy blend of aura!" That was a stonefaced lie, but who was Lime to know that? Besides...it gets lonely in the rooms sometimes. Lime sighed, kicking off their overalls while Cyan threw their tie-dye into their laundry.
"Cyan? Hey, Cyan? Have you seen Lime? Captain needs the both of you the report, post-haste!.....Seriously, I'm starting to get annoyed."
"If you don't open up, I'll have to file a report to HR about you! And believe me Lime, you're on your last legs as is!" Orange called through the door, their nasty words contrasted by a pleasant tone.
Red knocked at their door, almost opting to use their 'captain's kick' before giving the door a slight nudge, and seeing...

"....Awwww...that's so cuuutee!" Red clasped their hands to their side, kicking their foot up daintily.
"It almost makes me want to not punish them!
Almost."
