@CleanOceansProject

After quietly establishing ourselves as a nonprofit at the end of last year, we are formally launching to begin this year!  Check out CleanOceansProject.org for more info (link preview to website with newsletter article: Introducing the Clean Oceans Project). #CleanOceansProject #Environmentalism #NewYears

@CleanOceansProject

Our Website is currently available in English & Spanish, we are working on translations to other common languages.  Oceanic pollution is a global issue so we aim to make our project accessible to many parts of the world. #CleanOceansProject #Environmentalism

@CleanOceansProject

Ever get annoyed with pesky paywalls for scientific research papers when looking for a source? We have a growing repository of research articles available free-of-charge on our website, on the topic of environmentalism and especially relating to issues affecting the ocean.  Come check it out! @PercyJW

I’m back from vacation and back to work!  Had a brief meeting today as a board member of @CleanOceansProject, come check it out!  I’m excited about the work we’ve been doing with this project and am looking forward to some things we have planned in the works. @PercyJW

As a competitive swimmer, I have long appreciated the water.  I want to compete in marathon, open-water swimming, which occurs outside the pool and in natural bodies of water.  But unfortunately, many parts of the ocean are heavily polluted; as a Gothamite, that pollution and how it makes the water unsafe is readily known to me.  So, I am committed to doing what I can to reduce the pollution in the ocean to make a safer and healthier environment.  As a Marine and Environmental Science major, I am learning more and more about what afflicts marine environments and thus what we can do to help fix them. #CleanOceansProject #Environmentalism #MarineScience #Swimming

@CleanOceansProject

As the weather gets warmer and we look towards spring and summer, we encourage people to organize a beach or watershed cleanup event!  Pick up plastic and other trash which is polluting a natural environment and is at risk of ending up in the waterways.  Learn more here (link to website) #CleanOceansProject #Environmentalism

@PercyJW

We’re organizing cleanup events in Gotham on March 15th and April 4th.  We will be cleaning up trash from beaches and near the rivers.  Personal Protective Equipment will be provided.  Learn more and register here (link) #CleanOceansProject #Environmentalism #Gotham

              @PercyJW People have expressed concern about doing a project like this in Gotham, considering our city’s….other issues.  Like I said, PPE will be provided, more than what is recommended for cleanups in other locations.  We’ve also recruited some security personnel to volunteer for our events and a few friendlier law-enforcement detectives in case we come across anything that needs their attention.  Don’t worry, we are aware that we’re in Gotham and are planning accordingly for Gotham-based issues.

              @PercyJW There will be a variety of clean-up locations to choose from.  While some of us are cleaning up select areas of Amusement Mile, as one of the more polluted beachfront areas that needs attention, there are other much safer areas to choose from.

              @NighthawksSwimming Our team is looking forward to volunteering for the cleanup event!

              @Aquaticsfan16 Are….they implying they kind of expect to find dead bodies or something as part of the cleanup event? Thus having police detectives on standby?

                            @Junebug96 @Aquaticsfan16 I mean, it’s common knowledge that there’s a lot of dead bodies in Gotham Harbor from mob-hits and stuff.  It sounds like they’re mainly cleaning the land near water, not the water itself, but random feet/shoes or hands have been known to wash up from time to time.  Amusement Mile could have the risk of random needles or joker venom and stuff.  Gotham’s just built different.

@PercyJW

We’re happy to announce our Beach-Cleanup event was a huge success!  With over 150 volunteers across a dozen locations in Gotham, we were able to collect over 500 bags of garbage to prevent it from ending up in the ocean! #CleanOceansProject #Environmentalism #Gotham

              @PercyJW And for the record, no injuries or safety-threatening incidents occurred as part of today’s cleanup event.  Reminder we have another cleanup event planned for April 4th, focusing on different locations; feel free to signup here (link)

@GothamPD

3 different shoes containing detached feet were located along Gotham’s waterways today.  DNA Analysis is being conducted as our detectives investigate the origins.  Reminder, hands and feet tend to detached from underwater bodies as they decompose and shoes tend to float up to the top and be discovered; there is NOT someone dismembering feet and throwing them in the water. #Gotham

@JuneBug96

Scrolling through #Gotham, seeing #PercyJackson’s post about the ocean cleanup event right next to a post from GothamPD about discovering detached feet, both casually not mentioning the connection to the other, like oh, I’m sure it’s just a coincidence they found so many feet on the day they were cleaning up beaches.  #OnlyInGotham

              @AquaticsFan16 oh wow, Yikes.

Our Quarterly Newsletter was published today! (Link: Plastic in the Oceans, and How We Can Fight It).  We have been working with a representative to the UN for a piece of proposed legislation on banning plastic fishing nets.  Learn more and sign the petition to that here (link) #CleanOceansProject #Environmentalism #BanPlasticNets

Did you know that plastic fishing nets are the single biggest source of oceanic plastic pollution?  Learn more and sign our petition for banning plastic fishing nets today! (Link) #CleanOceansProject #Environmentalism #BanPlasticNets

@PercyJW

I’m passionate about protecting our oceans from pollution, and banning plastic fishing nets is a structural, institutional change that is feasible to enact that can make a meaningful, positive impact on reducing oceanic pollution and microplastic accumulation.  For these reasons, I encourage everyone to learn more and sign the proposed petition here, to ensure the politicians hear our voices on this matter! Notes:

CleanOceansProject would have more regular posts than what I showed, but I was just hitting the important beats for it. I'd checked back at what Percy was doing the start of January, and New Years Eve he was photographed making out with Jason at a club, so I decided they would wait for some distance from that before Percy started talking about the nonprofit he's helping organize. Percy's perspective on it is trying to be casual because he feels like he's done the least work on it of everyone involved, but he is the founder who came up with the original concept and ideas and stuff, and his involvement in it is what elevates and spreads it to many people. I picture that Tim loves having little programming projects like making a website, this is basically how he relaxes, so he's happy to be in charge of running the website and do be a board member (which, him being there too helps compensate for Percy being a bit disorganized etc by having Tim also there as representative of Wayne Enterprises).

Oh, I thought about in the budget, having the board members get a small stipend for working on it, but when I looked it up, apparently that gets legally messy. The lobbying is allowed though, as long as it's under a certain percentage of the organizations total cost. Anyways, that's why most of the board members are already Wayne Enterprises employees, they lowkey got a nicer annual raise than usual for volunteering to be part of this project and they are allowed to work on stuff for it during their formal work hours (for the GothamU professor, it's a feather in their cap to be involved in it, and they would be reading a bunch of related research stuff anyways).

Anyways, I think it's funny that the cleanup event just ends up being so very Gotham with multiple feet discovered. It's implied, but Percy was part of the cleanup crew for the more dangerous location of Amusement Mile. They had volunteers from Bad Wolf Security, the "legit" security company staffed by Red Hood's former goons after he transitioned everything to legitimate work (aka, they're all still loyal to him but there's formal work for them to get paid from so they don't need drug money). Also, Montoya is one of the cops who volunteers with the event and is put in charge of the investigations for what happened to the people the feet belonged to.

Notes:

They asked Damian to make the logo, and he got super excited about the opportunity to do art in a way that actively helped an environmentalism goal so he made a bunch of other pictures to use as header images and stuff. He's also making the pictures for the post cards and the calendar and stuff they're selling. He's a really talented artist. And in general, Percy bonding with Tim and with Damian as they collaborate on the environmentalism issues. Dick translates the website into other languages while he's benched from patrol due to his leg injury in February (because he's eager for something to do to feel productive and they're low on cold cases).
