the worlds ending why would you need a circus?

Chapter 3: chapter three

Summary:

“...you can-” right as you wanted to give into your sympathy, Pierrot leaned down behind you resting his chin on your shoulder.

“My dear, it would be best to turn him away… This man is a visitor..” Pierrot's deep voice whispered in your ear, nuzzling into the side of your head.

Notes:

HELLO!!! sorry for being gone for so long, the ao3 curse officially got to me, I almost died TWICE in the same week, then got locked away in a mental hospital, and then kept throwing up every time I ate food, and I would average 2 hours of sleep every night.

UHHHHH anyways here's chapter three!

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter three

.

.

.

“Thank you my dear” Pierrot's silky smooth voice reverberated through your ears, immediately you felt your knees almost give in, and butterflies flying around in your stomach.

“Hahh…s-sure! Ahem!…just erm…lay down for a bit so you don't get dizzy from your head injury!” you attempted to save whatever dignity you had left after making a stuttering fool of yourself. Turning around, you took a deep breath in.

While yes, you had accepted that if he was actually talking to you, according to the game,  AMA’s, and the plot, that would mean his obsession would have already started… So technically, it should be less embarrassing, because… Well, he wouldn't be judging you.

Oh god… But if his obsession starts, that causes future problems.. Then again, he would be helpful to take over…getting rid of the Visitors… After thinking about Visitors, your mind flashed back to the grotesque image of the dead body and the uncanny “corpse”. The mental picture, still fresh in your head, simply didn't help with your disgust.

Snapping away from your thoughts, you heard your name being called. You reached for the door knob, but before you could pull it open the young teenage girl ripped it open from the other side.

“Could you let the people in or turn them away already?? Their knocking is hurting my ears” The girl complained. Grumbling, she spun around. But not before sending a weary glance at Pierrot, whose face seemed to dim at the sound of her shouting at you.

“Hey, I'll be there in a second.” you spoke out quickly as you sent the girl away, horrified at the thought that Pierrot could hurt her.

“Uh, you!” you turned back to Pierrot, careful to not slip up and say his name. “Dont move around too much, okay?”

Obediently, Pierrot whipped his head back to you. He nodded furiously, showing his unwavering approval for whatever you ask. You ran out the room and into the hallway, creeping up to the peephole on the tips of your toes to see. Dread settled in your abdomen… You had a weird gut feeling about whatever was behind that door…

The orange tabby cat’s intuition seemed to pick up on it too, glaring at the front door, the fur on its back began to rise. It hopped off the shelf it usually rested on, rattling one of the vases, before scrambling away to the bedroom.

Tearing your eyes off the cat, you peered through the peep hole. You were met with a tall and pale, lanky man who seemed to smile too wide. Bright white teeth, pale almost white skin, sunken in eyes. Everything about him screamed Visitor. In fact, this was one of the few characters that is ALWAYS a Visitor. One thing was different about him though, this man wasn't here to pretend to be human.

“Howdy!” in an overly cheery voice, the pale man greeted you as if you and him were friends.

“Im not letting you in, leave. Now” while yes you had empathy for the characters, even the Visitors in this game…Or world. The pale Visitor was one of the only people you wouldnt give empathy to. To speak up and order the man around that could literally bust down your door, you couldn't tell if you had a sudden stroke of boldness or if your fear of him was speaking for you. Either way, you did not in any way want him here.

“Is your door nice and sturdy? Never know what might happen to it… You understand.” His implication was very clear, even if you were to never play the game, anyone could understand what he was hinting at.

“Leave. Go back to whatever hellhole you came from”

“Hahahahaha. Soo…you alone?” his laugh unsettled you to a different degree, to read it in game, and hear it in real life were two truly uncomparable things.

“No, I'm not alone.” you grumbled, furrowing your eyebrows.

“It's your lucky day. I can hear someone whispering inside. But who knows where they'll be in a few days?”

To your relief the pale Visitor finally walked off, it felt as though the conversation had been going on for hours.

Sighing, you rubbed your eyes. You looked out the window, a feeling of paranoia coming over your being. You had yet to get used to the day being night and night being day situation you were thrown into.

Spinning on your heel you bumped into a person's chest, immediately you dropped your hand from your eye and shot your eyes open gazing at the person in front of you. You….bumped into Pierrot? Your eye twitched slightly. Did I not tell him to rest…

Pierrot slowly leaned down, and brought his face to your ear “My lady…you seem pale… Did the person at your door…scare you?” he purred.

At the sudden closeness, you backed up and your face reddened. “Wha- uh no just a…uhm..Visitor?” for a second you pondered whether or not Pierrot would know exactly what you meant by “visitors”… While yes, he probably noticed some rather inhuman figures walking around. You would assume that he wouldn’t watch the television to find news on them.

For a second Pierrot's face went blank before he tilted his head, his black and yellow ruffled collar rustling with the sudden movement."What did…the ‘visitor’ look like my dear?”

His question surprised you, slowly you thought of a way to describe the interesting figure that had just left.

“Ah..well he-...was very pale and lanky. He almost looked like his skin was stolen, it was stretched and uneven in some parts of his body. And he had this creepy smile.. Why do you ask?”

Pierrot tilts his body down leaning over you, you watched in real time as his expression darkened and his eyes seemed to dilate and then shrink into pinpricks. Firmly he grabbed your arm and got close to your face.

“Would you prefer I stand by you when you help people in…?” Pierrot had seemed to have a distinct dislike of the pale Visitor you had just talked to. Perhaps he had seen him before? You glanced at him curiously, raising an eyebrow before shrugging and giving him the go ahead. It's not like it would do any harm to let him stay by my side…? You thought, it also was rather boring just standing at the door and waiting for people to knock. The company could be nice.

Pierrot’s smile snapped back up as he seemed to give you a closed eye smile, he let go of your arm and stood back up straight.

Knock knock. You did a quick look at the door before looking through the peep hole… Gods, having to lift my heels every time I have to talk to someone through the door is starting to hurt my feet… On the other side of the glass is a shaking man, bundled up in several layers of clothes.

“H-hello….The heat doesn't b-bother me. I'm just looking for a quiet place to rest. Might I find some p-peace in your home?” his voice barely audible from his blue lips, the man shivered on your porch.

Oh! I remember him! He was the coat guy!...Too bad he's always a visitor, he looks so tired… Groaning, you began bashing yourself for being so empathetic.

“How long have you been looking?” you kept having to remind yourself to search through your mind for memories of the script.

“...”

“I've never once found p-peace. So... A long t-time.” the pitiful man spoke of his misfortune..

“Doesn't the heat bother you?” Hopefully you remembered that line correctly…

“I'm always c-cold. Others b-b-burn in the sun. I wrap myself in layers and still feel on the verge of fr-freezing. I'm afraid to take any layers off.” Coat guy said, his teeth clattering from the cold. “What if it just gets worse? And there's no d-death to ease the suffering?”

…gazing at the shivering man at the door you felt a sense of understanding of his situation…the fear of uncertainty, worry of pain after completion. What do you do with all the training after crossing the finish line?

Opening your mouth you wanted to let him in..you wanted to say yes..but you knew based on game knowledge that letting in two Visitors would lead to you and the other people in the house dying.

Shivering at his voice you blushed at his hot breath on your neck, stuttering you turned away the man without thinking about it.

“I understand….Goodbye, then. I see your h-hands are stained with g-gunpowder. C-Could you shoot me?...Right. I'm sure you don't want to waste the b-b-bullets. Goodbye.”

It took you a second to process what the man had said, my hands are stained with gun powder…?

Pausing you looked down and said that your hands were in fact stained with gunpowder…but how would he see that through the peephole..? Do the characters just have the same lines regardless of my actions…? No but that teen girl she-

“My dear?” Pierrot whispered in your ear, he rested his head on your shoulder while his feather light hands held your hips, it felt ticklish when his sharp claws grazed your skin. You almost got lost in the feeling of a Pierrot near you, something you had wished for ever since you first played the freak circus.

“Y-yes?” still stuttering you tried to regain your composure by reluctantly leaving his warm arms and responding, looking at the walls to avoid his gaze you began to break into a cold sweat at the awkwardness..

Turning your head to look at the Pierrot, the first thing to notice was the deep frown carved into his mask.

“Sorry uhm…did you need something Pierrot?” awkwardly rubbing your neck you craned your head up to make full eye contact, Pierrot's frown seemed to shoot up into a smile after hearing you call his name out. Pierrot seemed to quickly gesture to the door.

Confused, you stared at him for a second and moved to look through the peephole of the door. Only to be met with the face of a disfigured man, his entire body appeared to be charred and almost melted.

Oh! The fire fighter?...he must have knocked when I was zoned out…

“Hello, sorry uhm who are yo-”

“Hey....Can you let me in, pal?” weirdly he cut you off, before you could even finish speaking off the script.

“...who…are you?” noting down the abnormality you decided to think about later.

“I'm *cough* a fireman. I got caught out in the sun while we were fightin' forest fires today. The thick smoke helped prevent us from getting completely burned alive, but *cough* It was still horrible. The trees...*cough cough* They went up like matchsticks. I've never seen anything like it. Smoldering animal carcasses covered the forest floor.” Between words and sentences the man would cough, his voice going dry.

Right as you were about to respond, you looked to his left eye. It seemed to roll back and then glitch back into place. While you tried to play it off the slight tremble in your voice revealed your shock.

“Y-your eye..? Are you okay sir?” your brain panicked resulting in you forgetting the lines, despite your usual all around good memory. The firefighter seemed to stall, his face drooping and his mouth growing as he blankly stared at the door. It was like watching a computer lag when you input the wrong code.

The man's face and voice returned to normal as if nothing happened, his eyes locking back onto the peep hole as if he could see through it.

“I wanted to keep putting out those fires. I wish I could've [sic] died back there instead of the guys. But they made it pretty clear *cough cough* I'd done enough. Now I can't get home. Public transport ain't runnin' no more. The only thing I can do now is rely on human kindness.” in a normal voice he didn't acknowledge what you said in the slightest, it was as if he didn't even hear you.

“...” you could only stare at the man in confusion…

“You…you can stay..” While the things you noticed about this man were worrying, they weren't something that the game wiki had noted down as something that would constitute to someone being a Visitor, and you did need that FEMA slip… perhaps, I could…study him..?

“Thanks, pal. *cough* I don't think I'll be in your hair for too long. *cough* At least I won't have to die alone in the dirt.”

“...”

“They gave us this slip of paper at work before we went to put the fire out. It's a mandate telling us to report to a FEMA quarantine zone. But why go if everyone who does ends up dead?”

“...”

“Here, I don't need it anyway. You can throw it away or use it for something else.”

“Ah…thank you…for the uhm FEMA notice…”

Watching as the burnt man stumbled his way to the living room you thought of what had just happened…

Should I keep a journal about these incidents..?

Looking down at the FEMA notice you would have to think on who you would want them to take in the morning..

“Pierrot, you should be resting so your wound can heal… For now just stay in the office okay?”

Pierrot nodded his head, his uncanny smile remaining locked on his porcelain white mask. While you walked him to the office the jingling of his bells ringed faintly behind you, unconsciously  you relaxed at the sound. While Pierrot did still look unsettling in real life, you mainly liked his character for his personality so it didn't matter too much.

“Uhm… How's your wound feeling?” trying to fill the silence with conversion, you figured asking about his wound would make the most sense, especially because you can't exactly say the weather looks nice today…

Pierrot tilted his head and smiled, his golden eyes morphing into hearts. “My wound is just fine my dear, don’t worry about me.”

Pausing when you looked at his eyes, seeing them change in real life instead of in a game made it look so much cooler, though…I really hope helping him wont back fire too much on me.. While yes, you did like Pierrot for his yandere theme and his yearning, you couldn't imagine how it would feel to actually be left to deal with his obsessive and violent tendencies.

“Have a good nigh-....day..? Sleep? Whatever works for nowadays…” Giving him a small wave you left him to his own devices, figuring you should check on the others and wish them good sleep.. This does kind of count as a hosting thing right?

Going over to the kitchen you went to wish her a good sleep, but she was already snoring. Quietly, you snuck back out and grabbed a pillow from the storage closet, you greeted the cashier lady goodnight at the same time. Sneaking back into the kitchen you put the pillow under the teens head and walked back out and into the hallway.

Walking down the hallways you felt compelled to do a model walk, spinning to a stop when you got to the living room. You went in and said good night to all of the adults, waving at them before you turned off the light and closed the door.

As you left, you glanced at the office door, and could've swore you saw it slightly ajar… weird…

Moving on, you made it to your room, you swung the door open and were greeted with the orange cat loafing on your bed purring contently. Immediately you ran over and pet the cat and slipped under your covers.

“Good night kitty! …I should name you… I can't name you after my favorite fictional character, as that name is occupied by a resident in this house…hm…what about…Gizmo…?”

The cat stared at your hand for a minute and then turned its head away.

“Huh…didnt like the name Gizmo much hm? It's okay, I'll name you tomorrow cutie.” Yawning you turned over and felt your eyes grow heavy..

—------------------------------------------------

Pierrot waited until he could hear your breathing even out, until your heart beat slowed, and your moving stopped. His body restless with the need to see you, to confess his aching love that bit at his body.

He waited, he would wait for you if he had too, he would be patient until for as long as the universe had time.

Creeping up he slowly walked out of the office and to your door. Pushing the unlocked door open he smiled a blush growing on his cheeks, it was as if you wanted for him to see you, like you were calling for him.

Immediately his eyes locked onto your sleeping figure. His smile growing larger, he softly closed the door and made his way to your bed. His gaze swept over your entire body.

He rested his head next to yours listening contently to your breathing, the fluttering of your eyelashes and the rising of your chest. Oh how he desired to touch you, how he yearned to hold you. He would stop at nothing to show you his love.

“Ah…my dear…you are even more beautiful in your sleep. So fragile…so defenseless. You do not even know me, but I know everything about you. Every step you take, your routines, your preferences…even the way your brow furrows when you are confused…or afraid. Hahh… udderly adorable.”

“I knew the moment I saw you…today. It was just a conversation, but something inside me ignited, and now…there is no turning back. There is nowhere left to run. I need to see you with my own eyes…to be certain that you were real. And you are. You must be mine…you will be mine.
