Chapter Text
In a world where soulmates are found through eye contact, Min Yoongi is 99.9% sure he will never meet his. If you and your soulmate make eye contact, your hair, and their hair, will turn the favorite color of the person, and vice versa. And since Yoongi basically only goes outside to walk his dog, and avoids eye contact like the plague, he's pretty much screwed. He basically has three friends, and one doesn't even count because it's his dog, Hobi. The other two of his friends are human, but his social life is pretty nonexistent.
The first of his human friends is named Namjoon, a tall guy that is one year Yoongi's junior. The other is Namjoon's soulmate, Seokjin. Yoongi remembers the first time Seokjin was introduced into his life. Namjoon had called Yoongi sobbing his eyes out, saying something about meeting a really hot dude and, 'Y-y-yoongi hyung, I looked him in his eyes a-and my hair is PINK! P-pink!' Seokjin had ended up being one of the best things that ever happened to Namjoon, and Yoongi. He is basically their mom, and he knows how to cook.
Yoongi is happy with his two friends and his dog, despite what other people might think. He has a well paying job, that doesn't involve him leaving the comfort of his couch, which is amazing. He ghost writes songs for idol companies, which, of course, means that he doesn't get credit, but he's really fine with that. It also means he can spend as much time with his dog as possible, and both him and Hobi are happy about that.
Yoongi has a pretty good life, all in all. Well... except for one thing. He has insomnia. His eye bags are pretty much permanent at this point, and even though he has sleeping pills, he doesn't like to use them. It means he barely gets any sleep most of the time, but Yoongi is ok with that.
Today he's really tired though. He hasn't slept in more than 36 hours, and he kind of has a headache. But it's 3:00, which means Hobi is sitting by the door of Yoongi's apartment, waiting to go on a walk. So Yoongi gets up, albeit slowly, and clips Hobi's collar on his neck, and walks out the door of his apartment. Hobi pretty much drags Yoongi down the stairs, and barks happily at Yoongi as soon as the two get outside. The two of them walk to the park, and Yoongi, even though he is tired, is enjoying getting some fresh air. They walk through the park, Hobi trying to run off to case various animals more than once. Eventually Yoongi can feel his exhaustion creeping back up on him, and he pulls on Hobi's leash a little, so Hobi slows down a little. They keep walking and Yoongi is about to start walking home when a voice behind him says,
"Hey! Can I pet your dog?"
Yoongi turns around to see a guy about his age standing behind him, a square shaped grin on his face. Yoongi blinks a couple times before saying,
"Uh... sure."
The guy smiles a little more and reaches down to pet Hobi. Hobi obediently lets the guy pet him, but soon Yoongi sees another guy running toward him. The guy stops when he sees the first guy petting Hobi, and a scowl sets on his face.
"Taehyung!!!" the guy exclaims.
The other guy, who is apparently named Taehyung looks up the the second guy and says,
"What is it, Jimin?"
The second guy, Jimin, groans and turns to Yoongi.
"I'm so sorry about him! He always runs off to pet every dog he sees, and it kills me!"
"O-oh. It's fine. Don't worry about it." Yoongi replies, awkwardly.
Taehyung, now seemingly done petting Hobi, sends Jimin an apologetic look and says, "your dog is really cute!" To Yoongi.
"Thanks. His name is Hobi, by the way."
"Ok!"
"Well we should get going, Taehyung." Jimin says, "thanks for letting Taehyung pet your dog."
"No problem." Yoongi replies.
The two are about o walk away before Jimin turns back and says,
"I don't think I ever caught your name." To Yoongi.
"It's Yoongi." He replies.
Jimin nods and him and Taehyung walk away.
Yoongi stand there for a couple seconds, and then begins to walk back to his apartment. Once Yoongi and Hobi arrive, Yoongi shoves his shoes off, takes off Hobi's leash, and then takes a long shower. He feels really tired, and it only takes him a couple hours to fall asleep. He ends of sleeping 6 hours, which is much more than usual.
The next day, when he walks Hobi again, at 3:00, he sees the couple he saw yesterday again, and the next day, and the next. He ends learning a little more about both of them, including the fact that Jimin and Taehyung are soulmates. He also learns that they are both two years younger them him, so they start calling him 'Yoongi hyung.' Yoongi actually manages to hold conversations with the both of them, which is strange, considering it's Yoongi. Yoongi actually begins to consider both of them friends after a few weeks of running into them.
He now has four human friends.
Yoongi has been doing pretty good lately, and he barely takes the sleeping pills anymore. He still sees Jimin and Taehyung in the park nearly everyday, and Hobi is pretty attached tot the two of them at this point. Today, he's chatting with Jimin about basically nothing, when Jimin mentions that his cousin is coming to visit him and Taehyung from Busan. It's nothing very significant, but it means Yoongi will probably meet the said cousin, and that Jimin and Taehyung will not be around much this week. Yoongi, of course doesn't really mind, but it is a change in routine.
Yoongi decides not to think about it too much as he says his goodbyes to Jimin and Taehyung, and heads home.
The week passes quickly, and Yoongi finishes writing a song that the company he works for needed. It's a pretty sappy love song, which is not what Yoongi particularly likes to write, but he needs to keep his job. He sighs and decides to walk Hobi. He knows he probably won't see Jimin and Taehyung because of Jimin's cousin visiting, but he still needs to walk Hobi.
He walks into the park and towards where he usually sees Taehyung and Jimin. Surprisingly, they're there. Yoongi sees them sitting on their usual bench, with the addition of another man, who Yoongi assumes is Jimin's cousin.
Jimin notices Yoongi first, and waves to him. Yoongi returns the gesture, and walks over to the small group. Hobi immediately attempts to tackle Taehyung, but fails because Taehyung is sitting down, and Jimin's unnamed cousin laughs at the display. Jimin seems to realize that Yoongi is standing awkwardly next to them, and begins to introduce him to his cousin.
"Jungkook." Jimin says.
Jimin's cousin, Jungkook, looks up and sees Yoongi. As soon as their eyes meet, Jungkook's hair becomes white. White. Jimin gasps. Yoongi blinks a couple times, and sees Jungkook staring at his hair.
"Uh," Yoongi starts, elegantly, "what color is my hair?"
"Red." Jungkook blurts out.
"Ok. Cool. Yeah. Um... yours is white." Yoongi replies.
Taehyung, who has been surprisingly quiet the whole time, pretty much shouts,
"OkJiminwe’releaving! Bye Kookie! You can catch up with us later!"
And then proceeds to give Hobi back to Yoongi and drags Jimin away, while Jimin lightly protests by saying,
"Wait! Tae!"
Jungkook looks at the couple, and then laughs, breaking a little of the awkward tension.
"Well then!" He says, a smile beginning to stretch across his face, "I haven't introduced myself properly. I'm Jeon Jungkook."
Yoongi smiles a little and replies, "Min Yoongi."
Jungkook hums lightly says, "It's nice to have the name to the guy Tae has only described to me as 'Nice Guy From The Park With The Dog.' Your dog is really cute, just by the way." He gestures to Hobi, who barks happily in reply, and nuzzles Jungkook's hand.
Yoongi laughs lightly, before saying,
"I know I'm stating the obvious, but I think we need to address the soulmates thing."
"Oh, yeah, well I'm ok with whatever you believe about soulmates. I personally would like to get to know you a little and see where that takes us."
"That... actually sounds great. We can just talk for a while if you don't want to catch up with Jimin and Taehyung." Yoongi says.
"I can just catch up with them later." Jungkook states, with a tone of finality.
"Ok."
Jungkook and Yoongi end up sitting on the bench and talking until the sun starts to set, just about trivial things, and start to get to know each other. Jungkook talks about his life as a college student in Busan, and Yoongi talks about his job. They establish that Jungkook should call Yoongi 'hyung.' They talk about their love for music and how Jungkook wants to become a singer.
They also talk about their lives, and their friends and families. Jungkook learns that Yoongi antisocial, and Yoongi learns that Jungkook is a social butterfly, and really popular at his college. They talk about everything and nothing, and eventually the sun starts to set, and Hobi starts to get cold. Yoongi and Jungkook part ways after they exchange phone numbers, and simple goodbyes.
The next few days are some of the best Yoongi has had in a long time. He spends at least some time each day with Jungkook, and when Jungkooks visit comes to an end, he promises to Skype Jungkook everyday.
And he does. They talk everyday, even if it is just a handful of minutes in between Jungkook's classes.
Jungkook keeps the white hair, and when Yoongi asks him how his friends reacted to him meeting his soulmate, he laughs.
Yoongi frowns and says, “What’s so funny?”
Jungkook replies, “Nothing!” before saying, “It’s just that there are these girls in one of my classes that looked pretty sad that I found my soulmate when I came back. But besides that, everyone has been super happy for me, and supportive.”
Yoongi smiles at that.
“They better be nice, or I’ll come kidnap you and take you back to Seoul.”
Jungkook laughs again. “Hm,”
Jungkook sighs, “That actually sounds pretty nice.”
Yoongi makes a noise of agreement, before saying, “It does.”
The talk for a little while more, before Jungkook realizes he should probably work on one of his assignments.
Yoongi’s days begin to get better, with the daily Skyping of Jungkook, and the fact that he has started producing more music, rather than just writing it. His name is getting bigger, and he is getting more successful. But, it’s not like the success really matters to him. He is happy just doing what he loves.
Days begin to blur together for Jungkook and Yoongi, and by the time they really take a look at the calendar, Jungkook’s break is in less than a week, and he’ll be able to see Yoongi again.
