Chapter Text
“Hi! Hi! Hi! You’re finally waking up!”
Light burned his eyes as he slowly opened them, the pure white walls slowly entering his vision.
Pain shot through his skull.
“Ow! What the— Spoke where am I?!” Parrot sat up, holding his head as it throbbed relentlessly.
Spoke’s shit eating did not waver, “my room of course! You passed out after I accidentally summoned fire everywhere.”
Okay. That explains it. He looked down to his charred name tag and coat.
Gosh. It was too late for this.
The radio in his pocket buzzed to life. Leo’s voice came in, “PARROT—X2. WHERE THE HELL ARE YOU?”
“I’m here Leo calm down. Just a minor accident.”
As Leo started his usual string of lectures, Parrot groaned and forced his aching legs to stand.
“Wait where are you going? We’re not done with the tests yet!”
“I’m going out to rest, Spoke. I’m too tired for this.”
“But—!”
He ignored the voidling’s whining as he stepped out of the testing facility. Or Spoke’s room to be exact.
Surprisingly, this was the tamest thing to ever happen to Parrot this week.
At first, he thought struck gold. Being assigned to humanoid SCPs made communication much easier, and they were much satisfied with just some cable or books.
Until, he realised not only did they love messing around, they also loved messing with him.
Honestly, he sometimes missed the simple days where he was just in charge of checking up anomalous half-cats or happy-go-lucky blobs…
The smell of smoke clung onto his shirt for a week.
——
“Bro. You look horrible.”
“Thanks captain obvious..”
There was a big bruise forming on Parrot’s forehead. From slamming his face into the table. Derapchu and Jumper continued eating with unsurprised looks on their faces.
“Here, Spoke can be rough. You get first dibs on the pizza.” Jumper slid a cardboard box over, which Parrot gratefully took with a muffled thanks.
Lifting the top up, there was a savory smell of trail mix as an entire steaming hot pesto pine pizza appeared in a flash.
“Bro…I missed these. Canteen food is trash.”
“My turn!” Derapchu eagerly snatched it away from Parrot, doing the same action of closing and lifting the lid.
Jumper turned to him, “have you guys seen Leo or Nufuli anywhere? I haven’t seen them in days.”
“I don’t know man— my schedule is hella busy.”
“I’ve actually seen Leo just now, he paired up with me to deal with Spoke. He seems fine. I don’t know about Nufuli though.”
Jumper nodded solemnly, “It’ll be nice if we all got together again…”
Jumper, being the senior researcher training the newbies and catching SCPs, was pretty popular within the foundation. In fact, she was the first person that Parrot ever met on the job. Now, him and her crew (That called themselves B.A.T due to everyone’s expertise for containment) were best buddies now, and Parrot was seriously grateful for the older girl.
Though, there was a weird rumour going around that she had a secret spy ring.
Can’t be true…right?
Derapchu on the other hand, was in charge of machine- like anomalies, engineering being his specialty. Him and Parrot went way back, them being high school classmates once.
All of the sudden, alarms screeched in their ears.
“Shit!” Jumper’s radio buzzed, “Someone’s messing with SCp-914! Gotta run!”
Derapchu looked at him , “Uh oh. SCP-914 is under me too.”
“Bro? Hurry up and go!”
He turned and bolted. “Don’t need to tell me twice!”
——-
A day later, Parrot was back testing Spoke. This time, he wanted to be doubly sure he can’t pass out again.
“Okay, let’s run those tests again, and don’t you dare summon anything dangerous!”
“Sir, yes sir!”
“This includes roombas with knives strapped onto them!”
“But what if I want my room to be clean?”
Parrot smacked his head with the clipboard. “Then call the janitors over dumbass!”
After he moved a safe distance, he called for Spoke to bring out his command block, Spoke’s SCP counterpart.
He watched as words were typed into the orange contraption.
Spoke…was an interesting case. Like all humanoid SCPs , he was captured from the modern world to be put into containment.
His brother, Ashswag, was once a researcher in the foundation too. Spoke was a normal boy at first, before he fused with the command block and turned into something called a “voidling”.
Since then, Ash was never seen again, and Spoke was thrown into top security containment.
“Okay, what else can you summon?”
“A parrot!” The space glitched a little before a green macaw soared out of nowhere.
“Anything else? Like a bigger parrot or something r something?”
Spoke typed the command in. “Nope. I can’t change the sizing manually…”
Okay, so only certain species could be summoned…The block really has weird rules.
“Oh what is this? The command block is telling me something.”
Parrot moved over, leaning over his shoulder, “Let me see, Spoke.”
In simple text, it wrote:
“/Teleport— ParrotX2/ Kenadian/ Wato/…”
“Yo, wait. This is awesome! Let me try!”
Parrot’s eyes widened, panic seizing his body. Shit! No wait—
Spoke disappeared without a trace.
Looking around, nothing moved, nor did he see the boy anywhere.
“Spoke? Spoke! Where did you go—“ Parrot yelped as a body slammed into his.
“It really does work! We discovered something new Parrot!” Spoke whistled, shaking Parrot tightly.
“That’s great…could you get off me now?”
“I wonder what happens if I teleport to the same person a second time?”
“Spoke! Spoke no—“
Again, the avian was met with a crushing weight colliding onto him.
He really needs to find another job…
