Chapter Text
On his 85th birthday Fereydun had a heart attack. It was a scary situation, his body turning against him like that.
He was thankful to his research assistants, two dozen Akademiya and foreign students of different majors who constantly swarmed the jack-of-all-trades-master-of-all like beloved grandchildren.
One immediately began CPR while another called for the Bismartan. Another quickly took the foaming pot full of now very ruined rice that Fereydun had been attempting to make off of the burner. He was trying for a certificate from a Inazuman culinary school at the time, but their way of preparing rice was far different than the way it was done in Sumeru. It is likely the rice would have been ruined even without the medical emergency.
With swift medical care, Fereydun pulled through. He wasnt able to run amok field researching or combat testing as well as he used to, but he never stopped his endless pursuit of knowledge and never stopped teaching others what he learned.
He lived another decade and a half after his heart attack before passing peacefully in his sleep the night after receiving a certificate of completion for metal engraving from a small school in Natlan. He is buried next to his parents at the roots of the great tree.
He left behind an entire library’s worth of research and travel logs. An entire school’s worth of inventions and innovations. He was remembered long after his death as an eccentric genius who revolutionized several fields and was a master in even more. His portrait hung in many classrooms across Teyvat, and he was remembered with fondness and love.
That was Il Dottore’s final death.
Il Dottore is less than a mere footnote in the history of Teyvat, his name never attached to the crises that he committed in Sumeru and Nod-Krai to avoid war with Snezhnaya.
A name on the roster of the Tsaritsa’s Harbingers was all he left behind.
Everything he ever strove for or fought for was destroyed.
His only living legacy was never attached to his name.
He accomplished nothing of importance in his long life according to history.
He is forgotten.
