Chapter Text
The rain poured as Oscar held his phone out toward the tire, flashlight illuminating the tire. Oscar wanted to check the damage and Lando is sited in coming off emotional support because “he’s not supposed to make his date get soaked alone”. By now, the styling done to Oscar’s hair had been long gone and his soft brown waves had plastered themselves into his wet forehead.
Lando stood behind him trying to call the towing company but the signal was shit. “Mate, I don’t see anyone!” Oscar let out an exasperated sigh, he’d been watching for people who had potentially had the same fate as them but Oscar was starting to think the gps had a personal grudge against those two.
“Osc, we should get back into the car!” Lando yelled, even thought they were practically attached to eachother, partially sheltered by the few leaves the tree arching above them had left. “What?” Oscar asked, like it was the most outrageous thing he’d ever heard.
“Lando! That car is worth a fortune, no way am I going in there dripping!”. “I don’t care about that! You’ll get sick!” Lando started nudging Oscar toward the passenger door and was reading for the handle when Oscar looked around for another option.
“Wait! Over there!” Oscar raised his other hand which wasn’t in Lando’s grasp to point at what looked like a small convenience store, illuminated by a bright orange sign. “We should ask them if we can use their line!” Oscar used their joined hands to tug Lando forward.
“Is it even open? What if we go all the way there jsut for it to be closed?” Lando tried to reason but Oscar was definitely not going to damage that car. Plus, there was no signal so that was their best bet. “We’ll have to find out, I guess”.
They came to a silent agreement and slowly stepped out of the limited protection the withered tree had provided them and with hands still laced, they took of into a sprint.
They squinted, feeling the rain weigh down their suits, the wind breezed past them, making Oscar shiver from the cold. Lando laughed as a puddle he’d caused splashed onto Oscar, in mock outrage Oscar proceeded to kick a splash into Lando’s suit pants.
By the time they had made it to the awning informing the shop, they doubled over catching their breaths. Oscar was out breathes of laughter between every ragged breath as he looked up and was instantly met with Lando’s bright eyes, illuminated by the fluorescent street lamp.
Oscar’s breath caught as the stare pierced through him in the best way possible. Lando was still catching his breath as his hands slowly lifted it Oscar’s waist, a light and almost unnoticeable grip and pressed his forehead onto Oscar’s.
Oscar’s eyes flutter shut as he tried to control his breathing which now had an additional reason to be controlled.
Oscar opened his eyes just as Lando’s gaze landed onto his lips then rose back to Oscar’s eyes in a silent question. Oscar gave him the smallest of smiles before a kiss had been pressed onto his lips.
Oscar’s eyes widened before melting into it, it was soft, tentative and perfect. Oscar’s eyes fluttered shut again as he felt Lando smile into his lips before pulling back.
For a moment, they just stared at each other, awe mixing with tenderness and the irony of the situation. Here Oscar was with the guy he’d claimed he had mutual beef with, who had just been kissing him.
After a moment, Lando tilted his head in the direction of the shop door, silently asking if they should go in.
The bell chimed as they entered but remained planted on the small mat placed at the entry, Oscar did not want to inconvenience any poor employee with a puddle.
The middle aged man who seemed to be in the middle of a shift, was adding chips to a shelf before craning his head to get a view of them.
Lando gave him a small smile “we’re terribly sorry, is there any phone we can use to call somebody?”.
They sat side by side in the little foldable chairs the man had brought out for them, towels draped over their shoulders. They were lucky enough that the shop sold beach towels and Lando had insisted on buying. Oscar’s was a princess Barbie one and Lando’s was a lightning McQueen one, Oscar definitely had complaints about that.
By the time the dripping stopped, and Lando had made the call to the towign company and to Carlos to come get them, they had made their way over to the bathrooms in hopes of putting themselves back together.
Lando crouched under the hand dryer to dry his hair as Oscar took a video on his phone, both laughing their heads off. Oscar stood infront the mirror, trying to salvage whatever had remained of the styling but he’d deducted that it was hopeless.
Lando stood beside him, ever so often they’d make eye contact in the mirror and double over laughing again.
“Mate, I’m so sorry bout your car though” Oscar felt like he needed to say that, because Lando was surprisingly indifferent. “Nah, it’s fine” Lando let out a soft laugh “plus if that didn’t happen, I wouldn’t have gotten to kiss you” he said it like it was the most normal thing in the world, like he had been waiting for this moment his entire life and had finally achieved it. The softness in his tone was Lando rapping his head around it, he had kissed Oscar piastri.
Oscar’s heart stuttered, it was too soon to processs that it had even happened let alone hearing Lando speak of it so fondly. Oscar’s cheeks burned as he tried to control his smile. Wow, Oscar thought he’d never be this easy. Oscar considered himself pretty dignified but it all seemed to dispel the moment Lando did anything remotely nice.
Lando placed his hand on the small of Oscar’s back as he guided him to the main shop area again. Just as they walked out, a long horn sounded outside in the parking lot. Lando immediacy huffed a laugh and slung his arm over Oscar’s shoulder “Carlos’s here” .
After thanking the shop employees and tilling him, they had walked out and made a run for Carlos’s car. They hadn’t gotten completely soaked this time because the rain had settled down, Oscar’s eyes darted to where Lando’s car was stationary and the tow truck making its way there.
Lando must’ve been looking at the same thing because he huffed a dismissive laugh and scooted closer in the back seat. The car was dark so Oscar almost leapt when he eared the laughter of max, Charles and Carlos filled the car. Oscar glanced at Lando who smiled brightly at him before they too had joined in.
From the passenger seat max wheezed as he looked back “mate! What even happened, you two look proper soaked!” The entire car erupted into laughter before Oscar began to explain the sequence of events, pausing to laugh ever so often. Lando bounced off of him as continued the story. Carlos, who had been driving liked back a them from the mirror and giggled “I was talking with ocon when I received a call from lando and i genuinely couldn’t believe it!” Lando shook with laughter, arm discreetly snaking its way to Oscar’s waist.
“yeah! Me and max were wondering where Oscar was so when we saw Carlos in the parking lot we asked cause we knew Toto woudl be together!” Charles cut himself off by doubling over laughing. Oscar groaned but a smile remained planted at his lips as his friends laughed at his expense.
“You should’ve seen their faces when I told them!” Carlos began to uncontrollably laugh, which was slightly alarming considering he was the driver but Oscar didn’t care.
The car parked safely in the parking lot of the venue, the heavy rain had now been reduced to just a light drizzle which added some extra irony to the situation. They had entered the venue discreetly, trying. It to draw any attention due to the sheer humiliation of showing up drenched in rain.
Lando had pulled Oscar into the dance floor at some point, Oscar didn’t do much dancing but watched as Lando pulled ridiculous moves which he called “interpretive dance” but Oscar knew it was probably code for “how to embarrass Oscar 101”.
Despite everything, Oscar was having fun which in Lando’s book, made everything okay.
After a brief visit to the DJ booth, and a lot of pictures, they all made their way to the elevated stage at the center of the hall. In the stage stood Alex Albon, giving them brief announcements before announcing what everyone had been waiting for. Lando and Oscar’s hands were laced together was they watched. Their school did four peopel for prom royalty to satisfy both juniors and seniors.
Lando and Oscar had bided together, for Liam and his girlfriend Hannah. Lando hoped they would win and his eyes gleamed as Alex’s hand moved to the envelope .
“can I get a drum roll please” Alex requested as everyone began to stop their feet, Lando glanced at Oscar who was pink with amusement and it only increased the fondness he had for Oscar. He was so cute Lando wanted to take a bite out of him.
Lando looked back to the rage as Alex’s eyes scanned over the writing “Liam and Hannah!” He announced as people began to cheer and scream. Oscar ls eyes gleamed and he gave Liam a thumbs up.
Liams face was bright with amusement as he waved and blew kiss to the audience, Oscar giggled when Hannah swatted his hand. The hole thing was funnier because the two had mutually decided to split a bit ago but stayed together just a bit longer so they could get prom queen and king.
Lando slightly swung their joined hands in excitement. “And last but not least…. Let’s hear it for Lando and Oscar!” Alex announced. Lando blinked for a second. What? They were an option?.
Lando felt Oscar tense beside him as he glanced over to see Oscar’s eyes wide with shock and when he turned to look at Lando, the excitement took over. Oscar tugged Lando towards the stage, giddy as they climbed up.
They stood there while Oscar and Lando both smiled ear to ear while Liam giggled beside them. Liam nudged Oscar and whispered something into Oscar ear which made Oscar go even more red than he steady was. Lando laughed to himself, Oscar was so responsive.
Alex made his way over to the small table behind him where there sat two tiaras and two crowns as well as four sachets.
Alex placed the crown onto Liam’s head and handed Liam the tiara to place onto Hanna’s as the crowd erupted once again. Alex then, walked over to Lando and cheekily placed the crown over Lando’s head and handed him the tiara. Oscar groaned but the smile remained stretched across his face. As Lando placed the tiara over his head, Oscar’s ears filled with cheers and whistles.
They had gotten their sachets and taken photos, to add insult to injury, Oscar’s did indeed say “prom queen” but he didn’t care anymore. The sheer excitement he felt wasn’t comparable to anything he’s felt before.
Oscar was basking in the attention, he wasn’t used to receiving this many congratulations but god, did it feel good.
Soon after, they had taken group photos and eventually they headed to the car park where they went their separate ways. After waving goodbye to Charles and max, Oscar and Lando scooted over in the backseats of Carlos’s mustang as Carlos tried to suppress a smile.
The drive was long and quiet as they all processed the events of the day. Oscar and Lando and resumed their previous position from the way there, Oscar leaning his head onto Lando’s shoulders as Lando’s arm snaked around his waist. Oscar turned the tiara over in his hands, smiling to himself, he felt Lando press a light kiss into his hair.
Oscar slowly lifted his head just enough to see Lando’s face as he spoke “my mum said you could stay the night if you’d like” the question came in a quiet tone, as if anticipating rejection. Lando’s eyes widened but he agreed in a heartbeat.
Oscar turned the key in the lock as he pushed the door open, eyes adjusting to the darkness. Subconsciously, their hands remained joined as Oscar and Lando toed off their shoes at the entrance.
Oscar was about drag Lando toward the stairs and straight to his room when he heard a noise in the kitchen and didn’t have time to think before Hattie emerged with a glass of water. “Well well well” she said, leaning back onto the doorway as she took in their appearances. Hattie quirked a brow as her gaze shifted from lando to Oscar “you two look like you took a shower with clothes on”.
Oscars mouth twitched to suppress the laughter as he turned to face Lando who was in a similar position, they stared at each other for a moment before Hattie cleared her throat.
“mum said he could stay the night” Oscar said as he stuck his tounge out at her. Hattie rolled his eyes and turned in her heel, walking up the stairs. “Whatever, just don’t be loud” Oscar’s ears burned at the implications as Lando turned to him with an amused smile. Leave it to his family to get that reaction out of him infront of Lando.
they were changed, Oscar wearing a navy T-shirt and sweatpants while Landon wore Oscar’s black one with a pair of shorts. Lando smiled to himself, standing infront of the mirror of Oscar’s dresser as he eyed the sachets he carefully folded and placed neatly into Oscar’s dresser, and then placed the crown and tiara on top. Lando ls cheeks hurts from how much he smiled but he just couldn’t stop.
He looked back at Oscar who was leaning against the headboard of his bed laying at the far end, patting the space beside him. Lando froze. He genuinely thought that he would be sleeping on an air mattress something, because he did ofcourse would kill to sleep beside Oscar but he didn’t think Oscar would want that.
Lando’s heart rate spiked as he made his way over, crawling to where Oscar was propped up. Lando smiled at Oscar as they both stared into each others eyes. The air filling with want and desire.
Lando’s gaze shifted to Oscar’s lips and then back to his eyes, trying to get conformation. Before he knew it, Oscar grabbed his face and crashed his lips onto Lando’s.
It felt like it had been going on forever. One kiss turned into two, which became four and now, Oscar couldn’t tell where he ended and Lando began. they had somehow ended up laying on the bed, Oscar laying on Lando’s chest, holding his face as Lando’s arms remained steady on Oscar’s waist. Oscar had been lost in it, body begging for more. Lando had flipped them over, deepening the kiss. Oscar lost track of time then, his only thoughts were Lando. Lando smiled into Oscar lips and pressed down harder.
Suddenly Lando’s knee slotted between Oscar’s thighs and almost instinctually, Oscar began rocking back and forth. He was getting lost in it once again before Lando pulled back. Oscar whined and tried to lean in again when Lando gently smiled at him.
“hey!” Oscar whined and furrowed his brow. looking up at Lando in betrayal. Lando huffed a breathless laugh before he stoked the stands of hair on Oscar’s forehead. “I wouldn’t be a gentleman if I didn’t take you on a few dates first osc” Oscar whined but he was secretly endeared. He never thought something like that would make his heart stutter but he learned something new everyday. Without speaking, Oscar nuzzled his face into the crook of Lando’s neck as Lando stepped his arms around him tighter.
The events of the day finally were catching up to Oscar as the adrenaline wore off. Oscar slowly was getting lulled into sleep, eyelids fluttering when Lando reached up and brushed the hair out of Oscar’s face and panted a kiss right there. Lando took a deep breath before speaking “so… how was it?” He asked, quiet and tentative, like he’d been wanting to ask . Oscar tilted his head up, making eye contact before the biggest smile engulfed his face “it was perfect”.
“soo boyfriends?” Lando asked carefully, Oscar pushed himself up and crashed his mouth back onto Lando’s.
Let’s just say Lando didn’t want to be a gentleman anymore.
That day became one of the best days of Oscar’s life.
