Chapter Text
Despite most of the groups better judgement, as it grew later in the day they decided they should find somewhere they could crash for the night. Both Impulse and Skizz were too tired to drive, and Impulse didn't trust anyone else with his vehicle. Scott watched as the drove through a small town. Others were discussing where they could find a good place to stay.
He would have chimed in but all he could think about was Jimmy. He had checked his phone several times that day with no response to be seen. He felt like he had let Jimmy down. He had gotten so caught up in the moment of discovering the Zombies he hadn't even thought about Jimmy once. He let out a soft sigh thinking about the memories he had with Jimmy before they pulled into the driveway of a house on the street.
"It feels so wrong going into a random person's house but we have to make do!" Impulse announced. He turned off the car before turning around to the rest of the group. "We have to expect there to be zombies. Do not let go of your weapons if you have them, and if you don't or aren't in an ability to wield one stay close to someone who does." Impulse looked at Scott when he said that.
Scott rolled his eyes, replying sarcastically, "oh someone on their period cant fight zombies?"
"Just in case! You were in a lot of pain earlier, I don't want you getting hurt from the Zombies too!" Impulse exclaimed.
"Okay dad." Grian chimed in teasingly.
"He does have some serious dad energy, doesn't he?" Cleo added in.
Impulse gave in just continue with their ramble, "I'll have Skizz with me, Pearl and Cleo are going to stick together. I assume Bigb and Grian will stay together. Abolish is on his own. Does anyone want to take Scott with them?"
"I can," both Abolish and Pearl spoke at once. Impulse looked between the two of them, "Scott is probably safer with the person with the gun."
"Don't I get to chose?" Scott asked acting over dramatic.
"You're right! You're right! Ask Scott," Impulse replied quickly.
Scott huffed before grinning. Pearl shrugged, "He can stay with Abolish, Abolish did save his life."
"If I get murdered tonight Pearl I am blaming you!~" Scott replied with a sickly sweet tone, "but I can stay with Abolish."
"How do you plan to blame me mate if you're dead?!" Pearl questioned while Cleo laughed at her.
Abolish, being quiet as usual just got out of the car, circling around it to open the door for Scott. "He's a silent gentleman," he heard Pearl telling Cleo as he exited the vehicle. He rolled his eyes, she always did this to him. It wasn't like he had offered him his hand.
He and Abolish went up to the door. Scott watched as the the rest of the group cautiously exited the vehicle. They were lucky it was a small town, however that meant the zombies were likely hidden away from view.
Impulse walked past Scott and Abolish and tried the door. The door clicked open, unlocked. "They either left in a rush or died. We should be careful."
Impulse cautiously went into the house, looking as though he was about to be attacked. When nothing happened he put a finger over his mouth but then motioned for everyone to follow him. Slowly and quietly, everyone followed him into the building.
Inside the house it looked like a very boring house. The walls were all painted beige and there wasn't a lot of decor. It looked as though the family had just moved in. Scott stayed close to to Abolish's side, worried something was about to jump out of the darkness. Almost like he had predicted it, something lept out toward Impulse and Skizz at the front. Abolish, who was already holding his gun, lifted his hand shooting the zombie.
Scott subconsiously grabbed Abolish out of fear, wrinkling the cloth on his jacket. Abolish appeared to ignore this gesture continuing on to see if he could see what he'd killed. Impulse gave them a disgusted look, turning towards those behind him. He was coered in blood from the corpse falling on him. "It smells awful," He muttered, Skizz nodding in agreement.
The rest of the group remaned in silence. Scott watched Pearl and Cleo glance at each other in the darkness. The continued throughout the house, the same dull colors as before. Eventually, the group sorted each other into rooms. Scott still somehow ended up with Abolish with Cleo and Pearl in the room next door. Scott ignored how wrong and awkward it felt to be in a random house with the situation.
Scott clicked on a lamp, expecting it not to work. He was surprised when it turned on, but then remembered it was the start of the apocalypse. It already felt like it had been ages. He turned back around and Abolish had set up a little spot on the floor. The set up looked uncomfortable, Scott felt a bit sorry.
Abolish nnoticing Scott started to speak, causing Scott to jump, "I didn't want to make you uncomfortable, this bed isnt huge. I'll sleep on the floor so you can be comfortable."
"Oh, thank you, but are you sure you want to sleep on the floor? I really don't mind," Scott responded offering a spot for him on the bed.
Abolish shook his head, "I really don't want to. You deserve to rest easy."
"If you insist," Scott replied after a moment. Abolish nodded and layed down on his little set up on the floor. Scott let out a little sigh but k new he shouldn't push it.
Scott layed down, hoping to sleep, but instead he ended up lying there. He continued staring at the ceiling for a while before deciding he should see if he can find anything. He knew the rule was that you were suuposed to sleep and not go out alone, the only one who should be awake is the one keeping watch, but he couldn't sleep. He tip toed past Abolish, who seemed to be asleep, and walked out of the room.
He crept around the hallway looking to see if there was a bathroom. He found one near the stairs they had gone up, and he went into it. He started looking around their cabinets and cupboards. He was hoping they had something useful in it, like some hygiene products, or over the counter pain medicine. He eventually found both of hwat he was looking for.
Just as he found this he heard the door creek. He quickly turned around preparing to be attacked. To his surprise, Abolish was standing there. "Abolish? What are you doing of bed?" Scott asked. He was quiet, trying not to disturb anyone.
"I could ask you the same question, but I think I can figure it out. Why didn't you follow Impulse's instructions?" Abolish questioned Scott, "his explicit instructions were to stay with someone."
"I am an adult, and I can protect myself. I don't need impulse to baby me." Scott huffed and pushed his way past Abolish. He started to head back to the bedroom with Abolish close behind him.
"It wasn't just to you, it was to everyone. You know that. You might be able to fight off one zombie by yourself, but we don't know how many there are around."
"I understand Abolish!" Scott snapped, stoppoing in the doorway and turning around to face him. "I know it was to everybody, but Impulse is acting like I'm weaker because, well, you know. And I know he doesn't mean it that way, but it feels that way! He's never tried to, but even when it's not meant to be that way it still hurts."
"I apologize and I sincerely hope that I have not made that feeling worse. I was just trying to make sure you were safe."
Scott turned around again, walking over and sitting down on the bed. "I'm sorry, I shouldn't be taking it out on you. You didn't do that, you just were checking on me. I guess this just makes me more sensitive than I realized."
Abolish nodded, sitting back down on the makeshift bed he had created. "You really should try to rest, lack of sleep helps nobody. I also understand if you can't, closing your eyes will at least help a little bit."
Scott nodded, "I will try, you should too."
"I will, rest well Scott," Abolish responded.
Scott got himself comfy in the bed again, lying there closing his eyes. Sleep may not come to him tonight, however, Abolish was right, he needed to rest while he still had a chance to. Maybe, just maybe, if he took care of himself, he would one day be able to see Jimmy again.
