Chapter Text
chandlers eyes drift open, the room dark, and a feeling of dread and worry already present.
she looks next to her.
no one.
she looks at her clock.
4:25 AM.
its not usual for chandler to wake up in the middle of the night, that in itself is giving her the creeps, but the fact her annoying ghosts aren't here gives her goosebumps.
she gets out of bed, walking around to find the ghosts.
no one is found.
the silence scares her deeply.
she walks into the kitchen.
no one.
a piece of paper on her kitchen table catches her attention.
she picks up the note bringing it close to her face.
"so ghosts can write apparently, and this is very urgent. JD is planning to kill heather duke tonight. ram, Kurt, and i are trying to stop him but hurry over to dukes place. ghosts can only do so much -veronica sawyer"
chandler reads the note aloud, once reaching the end just dropping the paper and rushing to get her stuff.
she grabs her keys and she is out the door.
she speeds down streets trying to make it to duke's house as fast as possible.
once she arrives she sees JD's motorbike sitting in the driveway, the front door is wide open.
she parts out in the front shutting off her car and getting out.
she rushes into the house, pulling a box cutter out of her coats pocket.
she extends the blade, slowly creeping throughout the house trying to find JD.
she looks down the hallway, seeing dukes bedroom door wide open.
she'd never sleep with the door open, chandler knew that.
she darted down the hall, slowly down once she reached dukes room.
she walked into dukes room, JD writing hastily at dukes vanity, a large knife sitting on the bed next to duke, who's sleeping peacefully.
she stands in the hallway for a moment, frozen with fear.
"i should've just called the cops, let them deal with it." chandler mutters, fumbling with her box cutter.
"oh who am i kidding, those hogs wouldn't do anything." she mutters again felling helpless as JD grabs his knife and stalks up to dukes bed.
chandler takes a small breath then rushes into the room.
"JD, put the knife down." chandler shouts, JD jumping in surprise.
"how the fuck did you know i was here?" JD stammers out in confusion.
"its a long story, but that's not the point." chandler says, taking a step closer, now being across JD on the other side of the bed.
"why? why her? why heather? i mean, veronica was an accident, i can understand Kurt and ram. but my… friends did nothing to you." chandler says, pausing for a moment, taking another small breath then asking.
"why kill them? just tell me."
JD's hands clench into fists.
"easy. you and your 'friends' made veronica's life hell. i already had plans to kill you for that, but then veronica had to drink her dose of drain cleaner that was meant for you." he pauses looking down at heather duke.
"so, this was inevitable. you helped me so i was going to keep you alive, but that can always change." he says, reaching to grab dukes arm.
in a moment of panic chandler puts her foot up on the bed and launches herself at JD, bringing the box cutter up and slashing him wherever her arm goes.
the loud thud from the fall causes duke to wake up.
she sits up looking around the room in panic.
her eyes land on chandler and JD tussling in the light of the moon.
"what the hell are you guys doing here?" duke shouts jumping out of bed.
"heather! go call the cops." chandler says still fighting with JD, her empty hand griping his wrist that has the knife in it.
duke rushes out of the room to get help.
JD eventually falls to floor, passing out, probably due to losing blood after being cut so many time.
chandler pushes herself off of the floor, and limps to the kitchen, a large stab wound stinging her thigh.
luckily the cut wasn't too deep.
she walks into the kitchen finding duke putting her house phone down.
duke turns to face her.
"cops are on the way, they should be here soon." duke says, looking at all the blood staining chandlers clothes.
chandler nods, leaning against the counter,
the two sit in an awkward silence for a moment.
"so, you wanna explain what's going on?" duke asks, glancing out the window as the sky turns a light shade of blue.
"well, that psycho trench coat kid wanted to kill all of us, and uh he killed heather too." chandler mutters looking at the floor to avoid eye contact.
"wait, i thought heather committed suicide?" duke asks, her eyes widening.
"nope. that was a lie he made up to get away with it." chandler mutters, staring at the floor, refusing eye contact.
before duke can say anything her door slams open, JD limping into the kitchen, still carrying the kitchen knife.
he charges towards duke, he raises the knife above his head.
duke freezes in fear, Chandler jumping to stop him.
JD falls to the floor, Chandler landing on top of him.
The two groan in pain, the knife stabbing into JD's side.
Duke lets out a gasp watching as blood pools on her kitchen tiles.
JD grunts as he pulls the knife out of his side.
he wraps his arm around chandlers neck, squeezing her tightly.
"if im dying tonight, im taking you to hell with me. for her." JD says, lifting the knife again.
he's arm falls as a bullet shoots through it.
chandler lifts her head up, looking at duke, who's holding a handgun.
"are you okay?" duke asks, throwing the gun onto the counter.
she rushes to chandlers side, helping her off the floor.
"c'mon, i can help you clean your cuts." duke says, letting chandler lean on her while walking to the bathroom.
chandler sits on the closed toilet, as duke gets disinfectant spray and a few bandages out of her medicine cabinet.
"alright, where'd he strike you?" duke asks, shutting the cabinet and facing chandler.
chandler lifts her skirt up a bit, reaving a large gash on her knee.
she then moves to unbutton her shirt a bit, showing a deep cut in her side.
"i don't know when i got either of them, but, fuck, they hurt now." chandler mutters, wincing in pain as the cool air hits the open wounds.
"okay, well, I'll clean you up, just it'll hurt a bit." duke says, grabbing two squares of toilet paper and crouching down by chandler.
she sprays the gash on chandlers knee with the disinfectant spray.
chandler bites her lip trying to silence the small whine bubbling in the back of her throat at the sting.
duke grabs the toilet paper, pushing it against the wound, wiping gently.
"you don't have to be strong, you just got stabbed." duke mutters, glancing up at chandler then going back to tending to her wounds.
at that chandler lets out a whimper at the sting.
duke gently grabs her hand.
"i know it hurts. you'll be fine, squeeze my hand." duke says, wiping the wound clean.
duke tosses the the toilet paper into the trash, then grabs the bandages quickly.
she quickly puts it on the wound, looking back up chandler.
"you're probably gonna need to go to the hospital for that stomach wound though." duke says, standing up again.
before chandler can say anything a knock on the front door.
"I'll be back. stay awake." duke says, exiting the bathroom, leaving chandler alone.
dread climbs up chandlers back, her uninjured leg bounces as she waits for dukes return.
"you're fine, heather. you're going to be okay." veronica's stupid voice rings through chandlers head.
a slight warmth tingles through her body at veronica's comforting tone.
"aren't you gonna, like, remind me of how i killed you?" chandler asks, waiting for that stark reminder.
"i would, but we both know who's fault it was." veronica says, her ghostly form appearing on chandlers lap.
she throws her arm around chandlers neck, resting her head on chandlers shoulder.
chandler puts her arm around veronica's waist, her temperature oddly warm.
"you're going to get blood on my clothes." chandler mutters, trying to hide her flushed cheeks.
"don't close your eyes." veronica says sternly.
"what?" chandler asks, then a bright light is shined in her eyes.
she flinches at the unexpected light.
she covers her eyes with her arm, waiting for her eyes to adjust to the lightening.
after a few minutes, she puts her arm back down.
she looks around the room.
white walls with a faded blue stripe in the middle.
the floor, gray tiles, and the ceiling white with annoyingly bright florescent lights.
she lets out a small groan, sitting up in the hospital bed.
she looks around the room. her head aching lightly.
she spots duke dozing off in a chair, next to the bed.
"heather, kill the light please." chandler mutters, rolling onto her side.
duke jumps a bit glancing at the bed, then getting up.
"yeah, sure." she mutters, flicking the light off, the only light being the sun peaking out from behind the curtains.
duke walks back over to the bed, running her fingers through chandlers hair gently.
"how are you feeling?" duke asks, still playing with the blondes hair.
chandler gently leans into dukes touch, letting out a small hum of approval.
"fine. my stomach hurts a bit though." chandler says, enjoying the company of her friend.
"yeah, you did lose a lot of blood. i walked back into the bathroom and you were passed out." duke replies, sitting down on the bed with chandler.
her hand gently rubs chandlers head, chandler letting out another hum of approval.
duke lets out a small chuckle at the noise.
"what about JD? is he here?" chandler asks, her eyes drifting to the floor.
"he's dead. died on the way here. so we're safe for good." duke says, still scratching and rubbing chandlers head.
chandler gives a small nod, the feeling of guilt creeping up on her again.
she killed him.
she knew it.
4 whole people.
she was a murderer.
those thoughts ring in her head for the few minutes her and duke sit in silence.
she's broken out of her thinking when duke lays down next to her.
"so, they said you'll probably released tomorrow morning, and i know hospitals can be scary at night so, i figured I'd stay the night, if you're cool with it." duke says, gently putting an arm around chandler.
chandler leans into the warmth of chandler, giving a small nod.
"yeah, I'm cool with it." chandler mutters, resting her head on the other girls chest.
an annoying voice cuts through the room.
"heather, and heather sittin' in a tree. k-i-s-s-i-n-g" Kurt sings, sitting in the chair.
ram snickers along, watching the two girls cuddle.
chandler just rolls her eyes, and snuggles a tad closer to duke for rest.
"is it still morning?" chandler mutters to duke, her eyes closed.
duke nods.
"yeah, 6:30. you can sleep, you were up late anyways." duke says, her fingers going back to chandlers hair.
chandler gives a muttered response of what sounds like 'okay' then dozes off.
the three ghosts watch from all around the room.
veronica staring at duke, envy radiating off of her.
"that could've been me." she mutters, her hands gripping the skirt she died in.
Kurt rolls his eyes.
"yeah, yeah we know. you won't shut up about her. looks like you missed your chance." Kurt says, slumping against the wall, boredom radiating off of him.
"i never should've gotten involved with Jason. i would've been alive, i could've had a chance with her." veronica says, turning away and floating out of the room.
chandler and duke stay cozied up in the small hospital bed, paying no attention to the ghosts in the room.
