Unexpected Master

Chapter 6: Manda'yiam

Chapter Text

Years and many missions later a request was sent to help mediate for mandalor but duke Kryze of Kalevala. Being fluent in the language and familiar with the culture, Obi-Wan, Sifo-Dyas and Dooku were sent to handle the situation. The four Jedi listened to the senate's request for them to put the duke in charge of the system. Qui-Gon slipped aboard their ship right as they were taking off, the maverick had heard about the mission and the senates request and decided that only he could accomplish this. Having sensed his former padawan Dooku went to confront him, “why are you here?”
“The force willed it. You don’t plan to make sure the peaceful republic backed leader is put into power.”
“No and that would be regime change. There is already a system leader in place and they are the rightful leader by the laws of the land. You’d have to be a fool to try to push the mandalorians into doing something.”
“Are you planning to blatantly ignore the reason for a mission request?”
“The request was to mediate not a hostile takeover.”
“The duke is a peace keeper.”
“No I don’t think he is.”
The rest of the ship ride was tense when they exited hyperspace Obi-Wan sent a message to Mij, ‘hey heads up one of Dooku’s old padawans hitched a ride on our ship. He’s going to be in blind support for the duke because that’s what the senate wants. The rest of us are just here for mediation like requested. If we have time, the head archivist wanted me to search for the temple that Tarre Vizsla is rumored to have built on Manda’yiam. Can’t wait to see you again in person.’
As usual Mij was quick to respond, ‘got it thanks for the warning. Jaster is intrigued by the idea of the temple as the history nerd he is. Jango has offered to join you in your search. The negotiations won’t start until tomorrow so you’ve got some time today to look over maps.’
Obi-Wan handed his com to Sifo-Dyas the master read the messages and nodded, “you scanned the archives maps right?”
“Yes, I also have holo copies of all of the references to mandalor. We brought Tarre’s beskar'gam, right?”
“Yes his and everyone else’s in the vault’s they should be labeled and in the holding bay.”
“Good just checking.”
When they landed the Jedi floated the crates down off the ship. Obi-Wan quickly scampered around them checking them on a list that he had so that everything was there. “Got everything?”
“Yes master Dooku.” The copper haired teen handed the data pad over to Jaster, “gifts from the archive and a request to have half of Tarre Vizsla’s armor. The reasoning is written under the request.”
Jaster chuckled and sent some of his men to move and check the crates. “We will discuss this request during the meetings. If there’s a Jedi temple here the full set will be there.”
“Understandable I have holos of the old maps that Tarre is recorded to have marked up, let's compare.” Jango, Obi-Wan and Sifo-Dyas worked through the numbers maps and by the time they turned in for sleep they had a few possible areas to search.
While sleeping Obi-Wan got a vision of where the temple was but that only narrowed down one location. Not being able to fall back to sleep, the padawan sketcked out what the temple looked like so others could search for it while they were in meetings.
The duke and his entourage arrived during the first meal much to the annoyance of everyone eating. When they were brought in Jaster was still eating his meal even while sitting on his mythisor skull thrown. Jango and Obi-Wan’s food came out when the meeting started so they were blatantly eating in front of the not so wanted guests.
The duke's eldest daughter wrinkled her nose in disgust, “it’s rude to be eating during a civilized meeting.”
“It’s rude to come during meal time.” Jango shot back.
The duke tried to take one of the plates from the servers but they skillfully avoided him, “it's rude not to feed your guests.”
“It's rude to demand food when you arrive earlier than the scheduled meeting time.”
The girl scoffed, “you can just admit that you don't have enough food for everyone. Unlike us who have good trade.”
Jaster sat up straighter and glared at the duke, “so it was you who had been inviting, people threw the hyperlanes that you don't control? We have been shooting them down for trespassing."
The duke gasped, “they have been importing supplies for us. Shooting them is barbaric.”
Dooku cut in, “its not barbaric shooting trespassers is fairly common. Ryloth is most known for it because of how often they are attacked by slavers.”
Obi-Wan cocked his head cutely, “Alor isn't Manda’yiam a self sustaining system?”
“It is.”
“Then why are they importing and what are they trading? There's nothing the senate wants besides the beskar, hyperlanes and the bragging rights for bitching one of the greatest warrior people."
Everyone turned their attention to the Kryze’s, “we trade with credits obviously. The senate wants to trade goods with us just like everyone else.”
The armored clan leader of the followers of the way, scoffed, “what do we have that they can’t get anywhere else where that isn't our beskar?”
“We have crops, clothes and architecture.”
Obi-Wan perked up, “you have the spices of Manda’yaim?”
“No, of course not those are inedible.”
“So in conclusion nothing.” Jaster sighed, there were going to be long meetings that just went round and round. “All the clans are here lets get this over with we aren’t joining or trading with the republic. We will discuss the possibility of setting up a Jedi satellite temple that we would sponsor and they would only listen to us and the manda or force.”
The clan heads seemed intrigued, “oh what would be the benefits?”
Dooku spoke now, “we have over 25,000 years of recorded history, a way to revitalize the planet which is an option even if we aren't hosted here, and children that should probably not be on Coruscant.”
Mij glanced over at the two padawans, “What's the reason for not having the children in your main temple?”
“Corruption, darkness and the amount of Jedi in recent years that have fallen. Some of you may remember my former padawan.”
“The girl that stayed with the ship?”
Sifo-Dyas sighed as he set down his tea, “she had some delusion that Yan would marry her and that they would leave the order together and live happily ever after.”
“Oh what happened after he rejected her?”
Yan grimessed, “her deranged rant was so public everyone saw it and she was kicked out of the order. I thankfully haven't heard from her since.”
Both seers made eye contact and shuddered, Bruck caught this, "you've seen something?”
“We’ve seen it for a while, it's just blurred because things are changing it slightly. It's like rocks hitting a pond so far things have been rather small.”
“And I'm assuming that you can't say anything?”
“That depends has Yan forged my signature on marriage documents?”
The jedi master in question started choking on his tea at the same time as Qui-Gon, “what does that have to do with anything?”
“Oh nothing it just ensures my survival or at least you are not destroying everything I've held dear.”
Dooku frowned, “Sifo-Dyas speak plainly, did you see me killing you?”
“It was a possibility before I got Obi-Wan. Now I just have to look out for Vosa and a persistent harlot that I haven't met yet.”
“Well then it's a good thing I forged that signature then.”
“Good id get half your assets in the divorce.”
“Everything is in trust for our children.”
“Is Qui-Gon disowned?”
“Very much so.”
“What about Rael?”
“My first born is still on the list.”
“Good.”
The duke was scandalized, “Jedi have children?”
Qui-Gon dropped his head to the table and Bruck chuckled, “some do it is not against the code. Rael Averross is master Dooku’s first padawan and for us that's like a son. Though I'm getting the feeling that there's forged paperwork involved and we are all considered his children now. How has my father not caught wind of this?”
“He signed his rights away to you when he gave you to the order so you're mine now. I also adopted Feemor, Xanatos and Obi-Wan even though I got him through marriage.”
Qui-Gon glared at his old master, “you took my Padawans?”
“I asked, they accepted, simple as that.”
Jaster snorted, “good for you Yan five children and two disowned you've done well. Want to move into the temple when we find it?”
“Sure I know who to reach out to for the rest.”
Obi-Wan and Bruck exchanged a smirk, “Master Nu?”
“Finish your food then you can run along and find that temple.” As expected all of the unimportant members of this debate shoveled food into their faces and rushed out of the room in five minutes tops. The youngling's enthusiastic retreat brought a smile to the elders' faces, well everyone but the duke and his two children who had stayed seated.
The next few days followed this pattern until the duke gave up on involving themselves with the republic and they started discussing internal trade. While the negotiations were underway the children found the mandalorian temple and had started its reconstruction. While there the remaining members of death watch attacked only to be batted off by the padawans and mandalorians who worked together seamlessly. The bucket cam footage was shared amongst the sector as a show of how the cultures fit together and as propaganda for the new temple. As expected the locals paid more attention to this turn of events than the duke of Kalevala’s presence. The reopened jedi temple had a different list of rules it had to follow and unsurprisingly to most the new laws resembled what the jedi were originally doing before they were shackled to the senate.
Dooku and his family moved into the temple right away, his child Zanatos was treated warily for a bit but when Obi-Wan accepted the darksider everyone else did as well. Feemor arrived with a bunch of ade, the older blond man was a seeker and a temple guard so he fit right in. Rael arrived a week later with his padawan, a few jedi healers, Master Nu and a good chunk of the jedi archives. “Yan, your favorite son has arrived.”
“Oh here I thought it was Obi-Wan, he's at least civilized.” The padawan in question sipped his tea demurely before offering a sheepish smile at Rael.
“Well besides him everyone loves our copper haired heavy boy.” Everyone was rather used to Rael’s antics from the previous times they'd met him.
The news of the mandalorian Jedi temple opening and being filled sparked the other jedi friendly planets to offer up their planets for the peace keepers. A decent amount of jedi made their home on Ryloth to defend them from slavers. A lot of the abandoned temples on other planets got reopened and inhabited leaving the temple on Coruscant mostly empty. The Jedi opened the temple up for those of the lower levels to get educated and expanded their medical care and botanical learning so that the less fortunate could have food, shelter, education, medical assistance and clean water. With the heart of the order having been secretly spread out or relocated to Jedha the senate lost all control over the peaceful force wizards. While trying to regain control over the situation the two sith in the senate exposed themselves and were swiftly dealt with. For the first time in a while the galaxy felt at peace and that there was hope on the horizon for happier times where war was just something in the history books.

Notes:

This chapter, while I love it most, the medical information didnt end up getting used because the characters said no, thank you.
