Chapter 7: what do we do with stupid ideas?

Summary:

After Rebekah told her about an elixir that could save her life, Asena decides she wants to try and get it. But with the person able to give it to her being dead in a coffin in the basement, she has to go to extreme lengths to get it.

Chapter Text

Asena knew she was making a mistake the second she opened the basement door. However, she would not let that stop her. She had exactly twenty-one days left to live, and she was commited to make the most of them.

Which basically just meant that she planned to annoy the living fuck out of Niklaus.

Now, where were those damn coffins? There had to be four of them, right? So they couldn't be that hard to miss.

Still, Asena had to walk through the basement for almost ten minutes, before she finally found the door leading to a room of coffins. Five of them, to be exact. How were there five? Kol, Finn, Elijah and one empty one for Rebekah. Who was in the fifth one? She probably didn't even want to know.

This shit was scary as fuck. There were corpses in the room with her. And she would bring one of them back from the dead. Or at least she was going to try.

After looking around the room and at the coffins for several minutes, she decided to simply open the one with E.M. engraved. She had no idea what the M stood for, but E had to mean Elijah. At least she hoped so.

She took a deep breath, closed her eyes for a second and then pushed open the lid. What she saw almost made her throw up. The man that laid in the coffin was completely grey! Dark veins covered his skins and there was a dagger in his chest.

To be fair, she knew about the last part, but it looked so much more horrible in reality than it did in her mind. How could Niklaus do that to his siblings?

Asena forced herself to grab the dagger and pulled it out at once. She couldn't waste any time, Rebekah had still been asleep on the sofa after the movie marathon they had had the previous evening. Asena had snuck away early in the morning, and now she was here. If Rebekah woke up, she could destroy all of her plans.

In her mind, Elijah had woken up immediatly after the removal of the dagger, but now nothing happened. Shit. Had she done something wrong? No, she couldn't have, could she? Maybe it just took a while, since he had been dead for so long.

She sat down and leaned against a wall. Time to wait. But what was she supposed to do with the dagger? She couldn't have Klaus have it, he would just kill Elijah again. Or Rebekah because she didn't stop her. Horrible guilt took over her. She hadn't even thought about that possibility. But if Klaus missed one dagger, he would have to decide on who to dagger, the other one would be safe and could free the others again, right? She had to believe in that.

Either way, it was too late now. She wouldn't go back. She couldn't.

Hoping for a change in Elijah's situation, she got back up and took a closer look at him. The veins still hadn't dissapeared, but she felt like the grey wasn't quite as dark as before. The hole in his dark suit was still irritating, as was the dry blood surrounding it, but she knew that it couldn't kill him, so she managed to stay calm-ish.

It took fifteen more minutes for Elijah to move. First Asena didn't even see it, so little was the movement of his hand. When she finally realized it, everything went way too fast.

In the blink of an eye she found herself pressed against a wall, Elijah's face only inches away from hers.

"Katerina," he hissed with rage in his voice that she had only ever percieved in his brother.

Fuck. "I'm not Katerina," she said, actually fearing for her life. Elijah didn't seem like he knew what he was doing. And who the hell was Katerina? Katherine? Another doppelgänger?

He got closer to her neck and when she tried to push back, he didn't move for a second. Why were vampires so fucking strong? Panicking, she pressed herself even further against the wall in hopes to get away from him. It was of no use.

"A human," he whispered in suprise and looked at her face again. "Impossible."

"I'm Asena," she explained desperately. "I'm human. I'm not Katherine. Please don't hurt me." Her voice broke. At least with Niklaus she knew that he wasn't going to kill her yet, but now? She wasn't so sure. Fuck, this was a mistake.

"I don't want to," Elijah said apologetically. "But I'm so hungry."

The next thing she knew was an excrutiating pain in her neck. He bit her. Actually bit her. Fuck, fuck, fuck. She screamed in pain and desperation, praying that Rebekah would hear her. If not, she was going to die right then and there.

"Please," she cried, "let me go."

Elijah didn't react at all.

She was dying. She was actually dying. To hell with the weeks she had left, this was over now.

"What the hell are you doing?" Rebekah's voice was already way to quiet in Asena's ears, as she ripped Elijah away from her.

Asena fell to the floor, while Rebekah struggled to fight off Elijah.

"Run," Rebekah demanded. "And for god's sake, put something on the wound. If you die under my watch, I'm going to kill you."

"Pretty sure that it would be too late then," she managed to say while getting up and stumbling out of the room.

With her hand pressed against her neck she got all the way up to her bathroom and then exchanged her hand with a towel. Fuck, why did vampire bites hurt so bad? She would sue the heck out of all the authors that had ever portrayed it as sexy. Well, if she survived.

Where the hell was Rebekah now? Because she sure could use some of that vampire blood right now.

It felt like an eternity before the vampire finally showed up, absolutely not looking happy. "What were you thinking? You could've died!"

"I think I'm still on it." Asena's voice was weaker than she liked.

"Right." Rebekah knelt down next to her and bit into her own wrist, before letting Asena drink the blood.

It tasted disgusting. Asena wanted to throw up so bad but she managed to hold it in until her neck had healed. How were vampire able to drink something that disgusting on a regular basis?

The vampire stood back up, but Asena stayed down, still not at her full strength. At least Niklaus wasn't there to see her like this. "Thank you," she said. If Rebekah hadn't heard her, she would be dead by now.

"Now, do you want to explain to me, why the hell you thought it was a good idea to wake Elijah up?" She seemed angry, but not in the same way Niklaus was angry, or even Elijah. She was calmer, actually caring for an explaination.

"I didn't think it was a good idea," Asena admitted, "but the elixir... If Niklaus doesn't find out, maybe I can survive. Please don't tell him."

"Have you lost your mind? Do you really think I would tell my brother that Elijah tried to betray him back then? And could potentially do it again? You are completely reckless!" She sighed. "If you do something like that again, I'll lock you in a coffin myself. But I won't tell Nik."

Asena laughed a little. "I won't do it again, don't worry. Also, I put the dagger under Elijah's coffin. Just in case you want to hide it or something."

Now Rebekah finally smiled again. "Thank you. I will. Otherwise Klaus would dagger Elijah and me again. I'm not letting that happen."

"Me neither. You're like the only normal person in this house." She finally had enough energy to stand up, even if it was shaky.

"Just wait until you meet Elijah. He actually is the sane one of the family. If he hasn't just been undaggered by a woman who looks like two of his exes." Rebekah laughed.

Two of his exes? He clearly had a type.

Rebekah walked towards the door. "You should shower if you want to get the blood off of yourself anytime soon."

Asena looked down at herself and saw that the vampire was completely right. Her top was soaked in blood and a gaze into the mirror showed her that her neck and hair weren't any better. She definetly had to shower.

When she locked the door after Rebekah left, she let out a sigh of relief. She survived. And if her plan worked and Elijah could give her the elixir, she would also survive the ritual.

In that moment she also remembered something else. Klaus was going to bite her during the ritual. That was how she was going to die. And if it was going to be anything like today, then it was going to fucking suck.

Notes:

Heyyy, I finally got around to posting this here! The fic is already written from start to finish, so hopefully I'll be able to update regularly. I was thinking maybe one chapter every two to three days, but I'm starting university soon, so I can't make any schedule promises just yet.
Please let me know what you think of the story so far and if you have any tips. English isn't my first language, and I haven't been writing in it for very long, so there might be some mistakes:)
With love
