Chapter Text

The few that remained lived on. An empty life, but a life nonetheless.

None of them would last long without those whom they had lost, though.

Not far off from the remains of their settlement, a broken body lay.

It was once a person, if you could consider them people.

It cracked and crumbled, lettuce singed at the ends and limbs torn up past recognition.

Its face might have worn an expression of guilt, of resignation. Or perhaps anger, of frustration..perhaps it was at peace.

Nobody would know for sure, as vines had consumed where its face would lie, twisting and tangling over the its surface.

The flowers bloomed larger than ever before, surrounding where the thing lay as well as delicately growing in between what must have once been parts of it.

And still the wind sang its sweet song, sending petals scattering around the scorched earth.
