Chapter Text
Elaine pulled up at the demolition site that Stanley Whitworth worked at and she got out of the car and she went to find the site manager.
Elaine finds someone and she hopes he can tell her where the site manager is as well as telling her where Stanley Whitworth is.
“Excuse me but I'm looking for a site manager?.” Elaine asks.
The guy looks up from his clipboard and he takes a good look at Elaine and he wonders why the LAPD would be looking for him as he knows that everything is up to code and he hasn't broken the law.
“I'm the site manager, what can I do for you?.” The manager asks.
“I'm captain Elaine Maynard and I'm looking for Stanley Whitworth.” Elaine says.
The site manager closed his eyes and he wondered when the LAPD would show up and try to arrest Stanley but he honestly thought that they wouldn't as it was shown that Stanley had a severe breakdown and he needed help and he was getting that as the site manager made sure he was seeing someone.
“Sir I'm not here to arrest Mr Whitworth, I only want to talk to him about some information he may have that could help an investigation.” Elaine says.
“Ok I'll take you to the office as that's where he is.” The manager says.
Elaine follows the manager and she understands that Stanley wasn't in the right frame of mind so she isn't going to judge the man.
Both adults get to the office and they enter and Elaine sees a man sitting behind the desk.
“Mr Stanley Whitworth?.” Elaine asks.
“Yes, that's me. Are you here to arrest me?.” Stanley asks.
“No Mr Whitworth I'm not,what I'm here to do is talk to you regarding a conversation you had with a firefighter called Howard Han.” Elaine says.
Stanley is shocked that the police are here to speak to him about what that firefighter said.
“Why are you here?.” Stanley asks.
“Mr Whitworth firefighter Buckley has found out the truth and I'm doing an investigation as what you were told was against the LAFD code of conduct and you shouldn't have been told any personal information about firefighter Buckley since he didn't give firefighter Han permission to tell you such personal information and with what you tell me it will help me to go to the chief of the LAFD and show that firefighter Han disrespected firefighter Buckley’s boundaries and they can start an investigation into him.” Elaine says.
Stanley wanted to go to the firehouse that Buck worked at and tell him but he was in no fit state to do so and he was worried that people would think he was lying and being cruel so he chose not to go and focus on getting his life back on track.
“Ok I'll tell you what I know but please tell firefighter Buckley that I did want to tell him the truth but I needed to focus on getting better first.” Stanley says.
“Firefighter Buckley will understand.” Elaine says.
Elaine takes a seat and she takes out her notebook and she also takes out her phone and she presses record.
Stanley tells Elaine everything that Chimney told him and how he found it hard to keep the secret and he explained everything about the dinner and how much he loved his girlfriend and that she was only a child when her brother got ill and died but Stanley knew that wasn't an excuse as she stopped being a child years ago and still chose to keep it from her brother.
Stanley also tells Elaine that he tried to tell Firefighter Buckley when was getting into the ambulance but Firefighter Han stopped him and the next thing he knew was that the ambulance was driving away.
Elaine asks Stanley if Han showed an indication of remorse that he was keeping this secret and Stanley says who was doing what Maddie asked him to do.
Elaine sees that Chimney doesn't care about Buck and he likes to play the victim when it suits him.
Stanley also tells Elaine that he wasn't the first person he told as he tried to tell his brother as he admitted to that.
Elaine thanks Stanley and stops the recording and closes her notebook.
“Mr Whitworth you have given me some valuable information and I thank you for that.” Elaine says.
“I do hope that I've helped and if you need to speak to me further please don't hesitate to come back here.” Stanley says.
“Thank you.” Elaine says.
Elaine gets up and she leaves the office and gets into her car and she drives back to the station.
The 118 firehouse.
Hen and Eddie were hosing down the ambulance and the firetruck when they saw Maddie's car pull up.
Eddie had been angry ever since he found out the truth and every time he saw Chimney or Maddie he wanted to physically punch Chimney and yell at Maddie for how much she has hurt Buck and manipulated him but he knew he had to keep quiet as it was down to Buck to tell people what was going on with him.
Hen knew Eddie was hiding something and she also knew it involved Chimney and Maddie and it had to do with why Buck took 2 weeks emergency leave.
“Eddie, can I ask you something?.” Hen asks.
“If this is about Buck then I'm sorry Hen I can't tell you anything.” Eddie says.
“Eddie please, it's Buck.” Hen says.
“Exactly. It seems that we are all allowed to keep things to ourselves and have privacy but when it comes to Buck we expect him to tell us everything. How is that fair?.” Eddie asks.
Hen doesn't say anything and she sees it's true and it makes her hate herself as she shouldn't have been one of the people to just expect Buck to tell them everything about his life as he is allowed to keep things to himself.
“Hen I know you think of Buck like a brother but I think you still see him as that probationary firefighter from when he first started, look how you treated him to how you all treated me.” Eddie says.
Hen sees that Eddie is right and she looks back on how Buck used to act and she sees that Buck didn't really cross the line and she should've stuck up for him when Athena had a go at him as he was right about the teenage mother. Hen also sees that she shouldn't have made fun of Buck when he told her about what happened with Dr Wells and the more she thinks about it the more she is ashamed of herself.
“When you talk to Buck tell him that I'm sorry for everything and I'm going to be the person he can trust and I'll do better.” Hen says.
“I will Hen. I'm speaking to him later today.” Eddie says.
“Wait, you're speaking to Evan. When are you speaking to him? Why didn't you tell me or Howie? What has he told you? He needs to understand that I had to tell Howie first and I was only a child myself.” Maddie says.
“Maddie shut the fuck up, I know everything and how fucking dare you stand there and claim that you were just a child, new flash you stopped being a child the moment you came back into Buck’s life and the whole thing that Chimney had to know first is bullshit as he had no right knowing until Buck knew and again it was Buck’s choice if your fucking boyfriend needed to know so do you know what I'm not going to tell you anything as you don't get to know a god danm thing.” Eddie says.
“Don't talk to my girlfriend like that, Diaz.” Chimney says.
“Oh I haven't even started as I have so much to say especially about you who knew how Buck would feel when he found out the truth and the way you have treated him and always ran to Maddie if Buck got hurt when she had no right to know as she is not employed by the LAFD but what really gets to me is that you cared more about your girlfriends feelings then the man you have worked with for 4 fucking years. I bet you told someone, didn't you?.” Eddie asks.
Chimney looks at Eddie and he is very uncomfortable and Eddie knows Chimney told someone and he is even angrier.
“You did,didn't you.” Eddie says.
“Chimney that guy that planned to blow up his workplace he called Buck over to him and you got him in the ambulance very quickly and let them drive away.” Hen says.
Maddie looks at her boyfriend and she is angry at him.
“Maddie I had to tell someone and the guy thought I was making it up until he saw Buck and the guy had a bomb so I had to think of something.” Chimney says.
Maddie understands her boyfriend and she is less angry with him.
“It's ok Howie I'm not angry with you.” Maddie says.
“Wow you really are fucking stupid Maddie or you just like to pretend to play the victim but whatever it is I'm glad Buck sees you for who you really are.” Eddie says.
Eddie turns around and he walks back into the station and he sees Bobby.
“Han and Maddie are here.” Eddie says and walks into the locker room.
Bobby walks out and sees that Chimney is back from the hospital appointment that he and Maddie had.
“Maddie thank you for dropping Chimney off but you have been here for at least 10 minutes when you should have come and told me you were back and returned back to your shift.” Bobby says.
“Bobby you don't need to act like that and why haven't you reprimanded Eddie for how he spoke to Maddie.” Chimney says.
“Firefighter Han, I would be very careful on how you speak to me and tell me how to do my job when you are on very thin ice and are possibly facing consequences for telling a complete stranger information about one of your fellow colleagues. Now get the hell into that firehouse immediately.” Bobby says.
Chimney kisses Maddie goodbye and he goes and returns to work.
“I'll be speaking to Sue Blevins and Josh Russo.” Bobby says.
Maddie gets into her car and she drives home.
“Bobby, what's going on here?.” Hen asks.
“Sorry Hen it's not my story to tell.” Bobby says.
Athena hadn't had that many calls and she decided to stop by the firehouse and see how her husband was doing.
Athena looked at her phone and she hadn't heard anything from Elaine but she knew that she wouldn't and in some way she was glad as she saw that she needed to take a few steps back when it came to her professional and personal life.
Pulling up at the 118,Athena gets out of her police car and she heads inside.
A few firefighters are doing their jobs and checking the trucks so Athena just walks past them.
Chimney comes out of the cleaning cupboard and he sees Athena.
“Athena I need you to have a word with Bobby as he is being completely nasty to Maddie and the way he is speaking to me is not the way he normally does.” Chimney says.
Athena stops and turns around and faces Chimney.
“Let me be absolutely clear Chimney I will not get involved in what goes on in this firehouse as it has nothing to do with me and how dare you ask me for a favour when I know what you and Maddie hid from my son so if I were you I would stay clear of me and I do not want you or Maddie stepping foot into my house as I am disgusted by both of your behaviours and don't even use the fact that Maddie was a child as she stopped being one years ago and she could have found a way to tell her brother the truth but no she let him find out the way he did and she should've gone through that baby box before going through it with Buck as she knew that her parents would put a photo of her dead brother in it but she allowed Buck to find out like that no I won't defend her or you and frankly I will never forgive you both. Am I making myself clear, firefighter Han?.” Athena asks.
Chimney looks at Athena and it's clear the lines have been drawn and Athena has made her choice and Chimney needs to respect that.
“Yes Sargent Grant.” Chimney says.
Athena turns around and she walks up to the loft and she gets to the top of the stairs and she sees Hen coming over.
“Hey Hen you ok?.” Athena asks.
“Not really. Athena what's going on between Bobby,Eddie,Chimney and Maddie and I know it involves Buck.” Hen says.
“I'm sorry Hen but I won't break anyone's confidence but you really need to think about if you want to be friends with Chimney and Maddie.” Athena says.
Athena walks away and now Hen has more to think about.
Bobby sees his wife coming over to him and Eddie is sitting at the breakfast table and he sees Athena as well.
“I thought I would check in on you and I'm glad I did as I bumped into Chimney.” Athena says.
“What did he say?.” Eddie asks.
“He wanted me to talk to Bobby and I told him that I knew the truth and I gave him a piece of my mind and made it clear that he and Maddie are not welcome at my house.” Athena says.
“Lets hope he listens.” Bobby says.
Chimney comes up to the loft and he doesn't look happy and he sees Athena talking to Bobby and Eddie so he goes over to Hen.
“Mind if I sit down next to you?.” Chimney asks.
Hen looks at Chimney and she just nods as she doesn't know what's going on and until she finds out she will then make her choice.
“I guess I should tell you about what's going on but Hen I need you to understand that Maddie was a child and she was forced to keep this secret from Buck so please don't judge her and understand how she feels.” Chimney says.
Hen looks at Chimney and she sees that this is taking its toll on him.
“Don't worry Chimney I promise to have all the facts first.” Hen says.
“Ok so you know how the Buckley’s came and we all had that disastrous dinner with them.” Chimney says.
“Yeah.” Hen says.
“Well it turns out that they brought Maddie's baby box and Maddie and Buck went through it and Buck found a photo and it turns out.” Chimney is suddenly interrupted.
“How dare you try to tell Hen.” Eddie says.
Eddie had been listening to Chimney and Hen talking and when Chimney started to bring up the baby box he knew that he was going to mention Daniel.
“Hen needs to know why you are treating me and Maddie like we have done something wrong.” Chimney says.
“You really are fucking stupid it's bad enough that you got told the reason Buck's parents treat him the way they do but you then tell someone who is a complete stranger and now you are trying to tell one of his colleagues and it's like you and your girlfriend think that it's ok to disrespect someone's boundaries. Are you actually right in the head?.” Eddie asks.
Eddie is angry and he doesn't care about the promise about not hitting Chimney as the man needs a good punch in the face.
“Hen whatever firefighter Han was about to tell you he had no right as it was not his story to tell and he clearly thinks it's ok to disregard a colleagues boundaries so from this moment on I'm separating you both and you will ride with Eddie when we get a medical call and firefighter Han if I find out that you have tried to tell Hen the reason Buck is on emergency leave you will be facing a disciplinary meeting.” Bobby says.
Hen looks at Bobby,Eddie and Athena and it's clear it's very serious so she gets up and leaves the loft.
Bobby looks at Chimney and he is going to look into his medical records as something is not right and Bobby hopes that he is only acting like this because of what happened to him 3 years ago as Bobby doesn't want to believe that this is the real Howard Han.
Eddie's phone goes off and he takes it out of his pocket and he sees it's Buck calling.
“Hey Buck,let me go somewhere quieter.” Eddie says and he walks away.
Bobby and Athena hope that Buck tells Eddie where he is but they understand that the man deserves privacy.
Athena leaves the firehouse and she gives Chimney one hell of a look and she sees the man for what he is.
