Matt Murdock, Foggy Nelson and Karen Page sit across from John Walker.
“I’m sorry, Mr Walker,” Foggy clears his throat, “Could you repeat that, please?”
“I want to challenge that stupid copyright cease and desist the Avengers sent us,” John states, annoyed from having to repeat himself, “They broke up. You remember that, don’t you? You should, it was all over the news, but now all of a sudden, just because they’ve reunited, they’re telling us to change our name.”
“The name being?”
“The New Avengers.”
“The domain name Avengers has been copyright claimed since 2012, Mr Walker,” Matt states calmly, running his fingers across the braille in front of him, “Unless the copyright was liquidated upon the disbanding of the Avengers, their ‘break up’, didn't automatically mean that any trademarks or copyright that they’re associated with disappear.”
Karen takes a look at the paperwork in her hands, “The trademark for the Avengers still remains valid, and even though they disbanded back in 2016, they’re still entitled to the trademark,” She states and looks at John, “Now that they’ve officially established that they’re a team again, they do have legal grounds to take legal action if your team doesn’t follow their request.”
John glances between the three, expectantly before he clarifies, “So you can’t help me with this?”
Matt smiles thinly, “Unfortunately not, Mr Walker.”
“They’re only asking that you change the name of your team,” Foggy gestures to the cease and desist paperwork, “That’s not too bad. It could’ve been a lot worse, and think of it this way; with a new name, you guys get to be unique.”
The chair screeches against the hardwood as John kicks his chair back and rises to his feet.
“Thanks for wasting my time then, assholes,” John snarks sarcastically before he storms out of Nelson, Murdock and Page law firm.
“Well, that went well,” Foggy hums as he watches him leave before he turns to Matt and Karen, “Lunch?”
“Lunch,” Matt agrees.
