Chapter Text

Blueberry was watering the flowers under Vanilla's watchful eye.

"You can stop watching me! It stresses me out!" Blueberry shouted.

"The last time I left you alone with the plants, you drowned them."

Blueberry made a sound of annoyance; he tilted the watering can slightly and moved his hand toward another patch of greenery.

"That's good." Vanilla smiled.

Blueberry continued watering, lost in thought...

How much time had passed since then? He knew several days had gone by, though he couldn't say exactly how many; he had been living on cloud nine lately, waking up every morning beside his lover—who was either shirtless or completely naked.

That lover was an angel—a very muscular one, something Blueberry had certainly noticed; he had even spotted a few feathers and enjoyed touching and playing with them. More feathers appeared, and the man—eager to learn and full of curiosity—loved watching them slowly sprout.

Many months had passed, that was for sure. He had learned things—like the fact that Vanilla didn't have much of an appetite; in fact, he was never hungry, so Blueberry had to keep an eye on him day and night. Thanks to this, Vanilla had become muscular, which Blueberry loved. His name had been revealed, too; Vanilla had finally told him that his real name was Vanilla—not the title he had chosen at the last minute during their first meeting.

Even though they lived the life of a lively young couple, there were times when they would just stay together—cuddling, lounging lazily, and simply keeping each other warm.

"Blueberry!" Vanilla shouted, snapping him out of his thoughts. "You've drowned my plants again! That’s it! Enough—you are never touching my plants again."

Blueberry stopped watering, realizing his mistake. Vanilla snatched the watering can from his hands and headed into the small garden shed.

"Go get some rest if you're that frazzled!" he grumbled.

Blueberry looked at him and stuck out his tongue; he knew it was entirely his own fault, but he preferred to tease Vanilla a little.

Just as told, Blueberry hopped onto the bed and lay down amidst the soft blankets that smelled of memories.

He glanced out of the corner of his eye at a shelf holding a small book—a book Sage had written himself, a source of both his joy and his misery... Vanilla had discovered it and read it while Blueberry was washing up. Bored, he had picked it up and kept reading even after Sage left the bathroom; he read it while shouting at Blueberry, worried sick about his childhood.

He could still remember those words...

"Is everything okay?"

"Are you sure? Please, I want you to be okay..."

"Don't leave... Don't do what you were planning to do... I would hate you for all eternity."

Blueberry let out a breath of relief; that wasn't even half of what had actually been said—just thinking about it gave him a headache. Off to the side sat some stuffed animals—toys he had sewn himself, some wearing sweaters knitted by Vanilla.

He had cherished every moment with Vanilla.

Moments of joy, celebration, and anger, as well as intimate moments—fragile and delicate ones, too.

He never wanted to leave; he loved it all so much...

The door slammed shut, and Blueberry jumped at the sound.

"My Light? Are you okay?"

"What?" He poked his head out from under the covers.

"You seem... more... tired..."

"Tired? Well, it's probably just old age." He looked at him calmly—the exact opposite of Vanilla.

"Old age?"

"Well... yes?"

"You... You're going to leave..." He clenched his fists.

"So what? You will too, eventually..." He stopped mid-sentence. "I'm going to die..."

Blueberry sat down on the mattress.

Vanilla came over and sat beside him.

"There's a solution, right?" He laughed nervously. "With your powers?"

Vanilla didn't answer.

"Nilly?"

No answer.

"Nilly..."

"I..." Vanilla turned her head toward him. "I think so—but I'm not entirely sure; I need to check my library."

"I'll help you!"

The two of them stood up and ran, racing to escape the consequences of time.

___

Blueberry rubbed his head and grumbled.

"There's nothing here!"

"My Light, stay focused; I have a good feeling about this."

"Well, maybe you're wrong!" He gestured wildly.

Vanilla stepped closer to Blueberry and caressed his cheek. "Don't worry—rest. I'll do it for you."

Blueberry looked at him, then frowned. "No. I have to help you. I won't abandon you! I want to stay with you!"

He picked up a book and turned the pages.

Vanilla chuckled softly. "All right, but don't wear yourself out; you're still human, after all."

"Yeah..."

Vanilla planted a kiss on his head, then walked off to look for another book.

After several hours of searching, Vanilla shouted with joy.

"I found it!"

Blueberry jumped for joy and went over to Vanilla.

"What is it?"

"I'll explain everything, but first I need something very important..."

"What is it?"

"A stone."

"A stone?"

"A gemstone that you can wear."

"So, if I take it off, will my mortality return?"

"No, not exactly—but if you wear it for at least a year, you won't need it anymore."

"Oh... Ah! And for the gemstone, I've got just the thing!"

Blueberry ran to their room and rummaged through a bag he hadn't used in months.

He pulled out a small necklace featuring a tiny blue gemstone shaped like a clover.

"Will this do?"

"Yes, it's perfect."

"So, how does it work?"

"Well..." He consulted the book. "Put on the necklace."

Blueberry did as told.

"Next..."

Vanilla set the book down somewhere and took off his robe.

"Hey!"

"I'll explain; just wait."

"It's a good thing you're wearing pants."

"Hmm..." He glanced at the book. "Come here~"

"Huh? Alright..."

Blueberry stepped closer, leaving a few centimeters of space.

"Closer."

"What? Even closer?" He raised an eyebrow but moved in anyway.

"You need to be pressed right up against me."

"You really need to explain all this to me."

"Watch closely."

The eye on his chest opened; it touched the blue pendant, and a yellow glow began to wrap around the necklace.

"What now?" He looked up, a bit worried.

"We need physical contact; that’s how you become even more powerful and faster."

"Contact..." Blueberry placed his hands on Vanilla's chest.

"Not like that."

"Hmm?" He looked up.

Vanilla looked at him and kissed Blueberry, leaning in and cradling the angel's head in his hands.

Vanilla grasped his lover's waist. A soft, magical glow—blue and yellow—appeared, surrounding them.

They continued, drawing closer and moving together, until suddenly, it all stopped.

Vanilla looked at Blueberry.

"Are you okay?"

"I think so..." Blueberry stirred slightly.

"I don't think so."

"I'm going to—"

Blueberry fainted in Vanilla's arms; he quickly laid him down in their bed. He checked his pulse and temperature, and looked for any injuries.

Vanilla gazed at his lover, who was lying there, sleeping peacefully.

The angel leaned his head against Blueberry's chest.

He lay down beside him and began to make soft cooing sounds, while a faint magic emanated from his fingertips.

The magic gently flowed into Blueberry's body.

___

He woke up; a faint buzzing sound filled his ears, and he felt a warmth spreading through his entire body.

"Nilly..."

"My Light?!"

"What are you doing?" He glanced sideways at him.

"I'm trying to soothe you."

"With... cooing sounds?"

"Why not?"

"Hmm..."

"How do you feel?"

"Strangely good—and young."

"It seems to be working."

Blueberry smiled, and Vanilla took his hand, holding it firmly.

"Everything will be fine now."

"I love you, Vanilla." Blueberry wept.

"I love you too, Blueberry..." He planted a kiss on his forehead and pulled back slightly. "We won't be apart anymore; we carry each other's hearts~"

The two embraced, no longer worrying about the future.

The end~♡
