Chapter Text
Todoroki’s thoughts are a mess of hate, hate, hate and you’re turning into a monster, as he treks through the thick woods on the island.
It’s getting cold, i should probably make a shelter before i die out here. Todoroki looks down at his right hand, and he scowls at the runes tattooed into his skin. God forbid i have use Father’s magic.
After some searching, getting lost, and getting lost again, Todoroki finds a very small clearing in the forest.
Conveniently, it’s next to a small spring.
Todoroki takes a sip of the springwater, it doesn’t taste like saltwater, so he can probably drink it.
After washing his face Todoroki looks up to the sky. I have about.. He squints up at the sun, Five.. No, three hours.
Todoroki nods to himself as he sets out making a shelter while he still has time.
…
“It’s not perfect.. but it works.” Todoroki mutters as he look upon his shelter.
It’s structure is made primarily out of the fallen logs he could find, and the roof is made out of vines and leaves he had woven together.
Todoroki crawls onto the massive pile of leaves underneath the ‘shack’, and he moves a large log in front of the entrance to the shack, hopefully protecting Todoroki from any animals that want to eat him.
Todoroki struggles to get comfortable for a couple minutes, and as he finally gets comfortable his stomach starts to rumble and his neck starts to itch.
Great.
Todoroki curses the universe, and that goddamn siren, as he treks all the way back to the beach.
…
As Todoroki moves away a particularly thick bunch of branches on his way back to the beach, he jumps.
The siren is sitting on the beach, staring directly at Todoroki, his face twisted in a terrifying hiss with his fangs bared.
Todoroki hastily reaches for his dagger, shaken. Is he gonna eat me or something?
The siren makes an ‘oh’ sound once he realises it’s Todoroki before closing his mouth.
The siren turns back towards the ocean and continues whatever he was doing before Todoroki arrived.
Todoroki glares at the siren when his back is turned, and he trudges up to the water’s edge.
Todoroki sits down near the water and he watches small fish and other critters swim by.
If only i had a spear.. Todoroki thinks as a brightly colored school of fish swim by.
Todoroki jumps when something splashes near the siren, and when he looks at the siren there’s a large fish squirming in his mouth.
The siren spits the fish out of his mouth and on the shore next to his tail, where several other fish are laying.
“I thought you only ate people.” Todoroki remarks snarkily, as he itches his neck.
The siren fixes Todoroki with a glare that makes him feel like he’s a total idiot, and facepalms.
“Okay, people taste good,” Todoroki shivers subtly. “But imagine eating the same thing for the rest of your entire life.” The siren finishes.
Oh. That makes sense.
“Why’d you come to the water?” The siren asks as he flips his tail up and down on the sand, an eyebrow raised.
“Did you come to scream at me some more?” The siren taunts. “Or kill me?”
Todoroki grumbles obscenities under his breath. Of course, I get stranded on an island with the most sassy siren in the goddamn ocean.
“No. I was hungry, I thought maybe there would be something here for me to eat.” Todoroki admits, looking out to the ocean.
The siren sighs, annoyed, and throws a couple fish at Todoroki.
One fish lands on Todoroki’s left boot, another hits him in the chest, and one soars over his head.
Todoroki looks down at the fish, and he blinks.
“This doesn’t make up for the whole ‘turning me into a
monster thing,’ so don’t think for a second you’re off the hook.” Todoroki warns as he picks up the fish that were thrown at him.
The siren laughs melodically, and he shoos Todoroki away with a webbed hand. “You’re welcome.”
…
Once Todoroki gets back to his camp, he has one problem.
Fire.
As Todoroki washes the fish in the spring, he thinks over what he can do.
I can survive out here without Father’s power.
Todoroki reaches down in one of his coat pockets, and he fishes around inside for a moment until his hand brushes something hard and cold. Bingo.
Todoroki pulls out a small flint, and after some more digging, a sliver of steel.
Todoroki leaves the fish at the spring, and after a couple minutes of getting lost, (again,) collecting wood, and digging a small hole he has a fire pit ready.
Todoroki tosses the wood into the pit and he grabs his flint and steel. Todoroki strikes them together.
Once.
Twice.
A stray spark hits a piece of wood in the pit and the flames spread over the logs.
Todoroki lets out a breath he didn’t know he was holding, he pockets his steel along with his flint, and he retrieves the fish from the spring.
…
Todoroki never knew how good fish tasted when you’ve been starving.
…
Todoroki awakes to itching on his face, (great.) and far off shouting and clicking. What the hell..?
Todoroki peeks out from his makeshift home, and it’s almost pitch black outside. The only light Todoroki can see is the soft glow the embers in his fire, and the moonlight.
The clicks and chirps continue, so Todoroki decides to investigate. Worse case scenario it’s the siren’s friends, and they’ve come to eat him.
After that thought Todoroki makes sure to have a hand on his dagger in case he needs it.
Todoroki treks through the woods quietly, following the chirps and clicks of the sirens, and after some exploring he finds in himself in a patch brush right next to the clicking.
Todoroki chances a glance through the brush, and when he does his eyes widen.
There’s tons of them, they’re spread out on a cliff just over the ocean, and Todoroki recognizes some of them from the containers that he unlatched on Father’s ship.
The blonde mermaid that tried to maul him with a spear is sitting with his back to the brush, sharpening that same spear with a rock.
A pink mermaid with brown hair is chittering happily to a grey siren with blue hair- he’s listening to whatever she’s saying intently.
Todoroki creeps closer to get a better look, and the leaves rustle around him. He stills, and the blonde mermaid turns turns around towards the bushes, his red eyes narrow, and he aims the spear towards Todoroki.
“Come out with your hands up freak.” The blonde mermaid hisses, and he digs the spear roughly into Todoroki’s leather vest.
Thankfully leather is durable.
“Kacchan, what is it?” Deku shouts from somewhere Todoroki can’t see.
“I found dinner on two legs.” The siren says, driving the spear further into Todoroki’s chest.
Todoroki sucks in a sharp breath as the spear pierces the leather, he comes out of the bushes, hands up.
The other mermaids and sirens in the area examine him, eagle eyed as they look him up and down.
The mermaid scoots along with Todoroki, spear still in his chest as he’s moved into the middle of the group of mermaids and sirens.
They murmur and point at the scales climbing up Todoroki’s neck, and some shake their heads.
Since when have i been able to understand chittering and clicking? Todoroki realizes suddenly.
“Yo, fucker, can you understand me?” The blonde mermaid asks, poking Todoroki with the spear again.
Todoroki swallows and nods.
The siren’s and mermaid’s hushed conversations pick up, before stopping completely as the distant sound of cannon fire sounds.
Todoroki knows that sound. Only one ship in this region has a cannon as powerful as that. “Father..” Todoroki mutters, and the blonde mermaid looks up at him, eyes narrowed.
“I’ll deal with you later,” The blonde mermaid takes his spear out of Todoroki’s chest, and Todoroki lets out a small breath.
The blonde turns away from Todoroki towards the rest of the sirens and mermaids, and he raises his voice to a shout. “Everyone in the water!”
Before Todoroki can ever question what’s going on, the sirens and mermaids start to jump off of the cliff and into the water. As Todoroki looks closer it looks like they’re in specific groups.
They’re smarter than i thought.
Todoroki steps back in order to avoid being crushed by the sirens and mermaids, and he watches them leap off of the cliff into the dark water below.
Todoroki holds his hands over his ears as another cannon fires off, they’re getting closer.
“Come on dude, whattya waiting for?” A red haired siren asks seriously, turned towards Todoroki. “You don’t wanna be caught by Endeavor, you’ll get turned into fish bait or somethin’!”
The siren turns towards the cliff, ready to jump down, but he turns back one more time. “My name’s Kirishima, try not to belly flop when you hit the water!
Then, Todoroki is pushed off of the cliff.
