Chapter 7: A stubborn heart

Summary:

Lotor has been through the ringer a few times, and he thinks Keith deserves better than that.

Maybe Lance is, though.

Notes:

Hi there, long time no see. So my life absolutely (absolutely) fell to shit, I'm out a couple thousand, I am down to three friends all long distance, and I just moved to a different state because SOMETHING had to give... Oh, and I'm jobless. :)
So. Why not get back to this fic right? Lmao.
Ya'll totally wanted a Lotor chapter right? Cause that's what you're getting here. Also added some tags. Yell at me now or later or whatever it's cool.

Chapter Text

Keith’s skin is buzzing during their movie night as Lotor nuzzles into his neck. He knows why and he hates it, but he ignores this knowledge nagging at the back of his head with every fiber in his being as he continues to nose at Keith’s collar.

He’s sensitive right now. After effects of his heat almost getting triggered thanks to that reckless alpha getting too close.

And yet, Keith is friggen buzzing.

Lotor knows he’s not the reason for his glee and he most likely isn’t going to be asked to help Keith through the bulk of it anymore but…

But it reminds him of the times that he did, and it makes his own body feel…

“Lo…” Keith breathes, sounding tired but not annoyed, “your nose is cold.”

“I’m warming it up. Nothing like a smitten omega to cuddle. I thought I was proof enough of that.”

Keith chuckled and turns his face away from the credits, rolling on the screen. He presses his cheek to Lotor’s head, and the older boy breathes in deeply.

Keith’s scent has always been sweet, burrowed this close to him as the rare treat only Lotor is ever truly allowed lately, but now it’s just… heavenly.

All because he went and spent time with that alpha. It was just a fact that male alpha were rotten. Keith was better than that. Keith deserved better than that, but he just had to be…

“You’ll still let me prove my case tomorrow, won’t you?”

Lotor can feel Keith smile against his side. He pushes him down against the couch and holds him tightly, coiled around the smaller omeg in a way that isn’t unfamiliar to the two of them.

“I think you’re wrong about this one Lotor. But yeah. A deal is a deal.”

“I’m not.” Lotor insisted, casually rolling his hips against Keith’s thigh, eliciting a small sigh before the boy reached up to bat at his shoulder.

“Hey, quit that…”

“You smell like you’re entering heat soon. And I know it’s because of him. Would you still seek my assistance? Or… would you… with him…?”

Keith seemed thoughtful for a moment before shrugging, “It was one date, I’m not about to ask him to aid me through a heat… that’s still your job, until further notice anyway.”

Lotor nodded, melting into Keith a little more to show his contentment as he easily neglected the last part of his statement.

“Good, good… and you will of course give me ample time to find a replacement for you, should you decide you can no longer aid with mine, correct?”

“Yeah, yeah of course.”

“Splendid.”

“…Gonna drop your case then?” Keith attempted.

Lotor shook his head, “Absolutely not, male alpha are gods punishment to humanity and I am going to prove it. Then you’ll be mine forever and we can finally quit this charade that you don’t love me.”

Keith stared at him for a long moment before reaching for is chin and tilting his face up to meet his.

Lotor blushed, as he always did in the seconds before Keith showed him any genuine affection. Their lips brush briefly but with meaning and Lotor felt his body shift entirely into submission at the act.

“I do love you. We’re just not...that compatible, you know that. I can’t love you the way you want me to.”

Lotor sighed dreamily and made himself comfortable on his best friend’s chest, “Any love you wish to bestow upon me is cherished, your preference for alpha does not phase me.” He breathed in, letting Keith’s scent filter through his senses, Keith’s scent coupled with the barest hint that came off that stupid alpha.

Lotor knew Keith’s scent so well by now it was easy to differentiate.

It made it painfully clear that he may have been focused a little too heavily on the one that was unfamiliar. The one he’d gotten only a few sparing whiffs of at university and had consistently done everything in his power to avoid.

 —

He hadn’t meant to ruin their study session but as they were his pack, they had long ago accepted this of him.

If Lotor was in a mood it usually meant Keith, the outsider of their pack, was the cause of it.

Zethrid valiantly made the effort to keep her textbook open while Ezor quit altogether, popping out a glitter white nail polish and settling in as she said the magic words.

“Alright babe, what’s eating you?”

Lotor tapped his fingers on the edge of the table all at once, as he’d been doing in rhythmic succession all day without absorbing a single word of the prose before him.

He’s losing.

He’s losing and he can’t—

“Keith is in love with that alpha.”

The girls were silent. Acxa was the first to eventually sigh, getting up and wandering away from their little study session. But she left all her things behind, to show that she had every intention of returning.

Lotor, in response to this, scratched his nails down the wood table, “you’d think we’ve been close long enough that I would have turned him off from the idea of alpha males…”

Zethrid glanced up from her books just for a moment to shoot Ezor a knowing look and the girl with glitter nail polish reached out to touch Lotor’s hand.

“Hun, we’ve talked about this. Keith prefers male alpha, and they are not all bad…”

Lotor narrowed his eyes at her, “Between my cretin father and other brilliant specimens like Sendak or—or Throk—”

Ezor retrieved her hand, already shrugging her shoulders, “You still can’t generalize all male alpha—“

“Even when I thought Regris might have a shred of decency to him he showed himself to also be a solid putz,” Lotor persisted, “You give an alpha male an inch and they take a mile, expectant that their omega partners will assuage their every aching whim and for what? To be toyed with, to be used or flaunted about like some trophy.”

As the girls around the table we’re all alpha women who had very little to do with alpha men, they found they had very little to argue. In fact, Narti simply hiccupped.

At the end of the day, Lotor had surrounded himself with female alpha to protect him from the discomfort he’d dealt with most of his life. His parents were a pair of alphas who butted heads one too many times before she left him and his two alpha brothers. In fact, Lotor’s coming out a “pathetic omega” had been the basis of his entire upbringing.

Lotor wasn’t as strong as Sendak, Lotor wasn’t as ambitious as Sincline, Lotor was too pretty and too soft, not even taking after his mother well enough.

That is, until he nearly choked his twin brother with a television cable and politely moved out shortly afterward.

He remembered his father telling him how proud he was of him, that one time. How that had been the only reason he’d allotted Lotor the funds to live on his own. And besides, even if his omega son could best his failure of a brother (who was shipped off to some militant like correctional facility to make up for his failings shortly thereafter) he still needed the added protection of a good neighborhood with good security right? Can’t let the too pretty too soft omega be completely unguarded.

It was disgusting and Lotor hated it and the moment he felt he would be able to survive entirely on his own he would pack up and disappear and honestly who knew when his father would figure out he’d been paying rent on an empty apartment.

But his upbringing aside? He didn’t hate alpha men until that little weasel Throk.

Until that little vindictive worm decided to go batshit after Lotor called it quits. It was the one and only time Lotor ever called his older brother for help and he’d be damned if he ever did it again.

Because of course, somehow, Sendak being his holier than thou self was more upsetting than Throk’s drenching his car in gasoline.

And even after all the foulness of that, Lotor still let one of his father’s hired security into his good graces.

Because he was different. Because he was kind and patient and didn’t treat Lotor like a doll.

Of course, instead he sold him out to his father on a regular basis because Lotor is up to un-omega-like things and that’s simply not done!

Lotor grit his teeth. Honestly, he probably hated Regris most of all at this point. It’s one thing to be more of the same, it’s another to pretend that you’re not.

Which was why Lance was such a damn problem. Because he appeared just as genuine and unassuming as a Regris. And if Keith ended up hurt like that...

“Isn’t it possible this Lance guy could be a decent human?” Ezor pressed, though her tone sounded particularly uninvested, as if she knew (which she did) that this was an argument she wasn’t going to win no matter how irrational Lotor was being.

“Sure, much like it was perfectly possible for that Macidus fellow not to try and force himself on Keith in the first place.”

And there it was, the ace Lotor clung to, the final nail in the coffin of alpha male reputation in his book. He always goes back to the multitude of offenders that had already attempted to hurt Keith before, the worst of which being the sewer rat in question.

Ezor made a face and Zethrid groaned, shutting her textbook. Before she could speak, Acxa returned setting a sealed Starbucks cup down next to Lotor’s arm.

“Yes, okay. There have been some. Incidents. And yes, given your history it’s perfectly acceptable for you to find alpha men a certain kind of way but what you need to understand is that you can’t push your beliefs on anyone else. Keith isn’t going to detest or avoid alpha men just because you say so.”

Lotor glanced at the cup, then at Acxa, and slowly brought the cup to rest in front of his face as he popped up the seal and sniffed its contents.

“That’s correct. I don’t expect him to do it because I say so. I expect him to do it for his own self preservation. I expect him to care for himself enough to not go through that again, I expect—”

Lotor paused as Acxa reached out her hand, her bare wrist just under his nose as she released calming pheromones to her packmate.

Lotor stared for a long moment, at the silver bracelet he’d given her some years ago as it slipped aside, at her black painted nails and the tense way her fingers stayed perfectly still despite her scent.

Because this was Acxa, his first packmate and the one he’d called after every great alpha male offense to calm him down, as she did now.

Because Acxa was reliable and faithful and full of love and respect for her chosen family.

Because sometimes Lotor wondered.

Wondered if… perhaps she…

No. Preposterous. They were just friends. Family.

She’d have said something otherwise.

He sighed and pressed his nose right against her skin, letting her into his senses as they so often did, letting her calm him in the way no one else could.

He still didn’t like any part of this situation though.

Didn’t like it didn’t like it didn’t like it. The alpha male—Lance, couldn’t hide his true nature from him forever, Lotor knew better.

—

If anyone asked Acxa later why her packmate was a flushed slurring mess she’d apologize and explain that it probably wasn’t one of her better ideas to let him sooth his frustrations however he wanted just before he was supposed to play host at the astronomy tower.

But as it stood, no one was asking Acxa anything. No one could approach Acxa. Acxa and the word approachable had never been so far separated.

Luckily for everyone, Narti arrived with her and so “approaching” was not needed. Narti was simply there, at her side, trying in vain to calm the flare of anger that everyone else with any sense knew to avoid.

Ezor and Zethrid had set up a table with some concessions. Namely chips, cookies, a couple gallon-sized jugs of juice and tea. Rolo and his alpha girlfriend Nyma have already helped themselves and were holding a conversation with a beta male named Bandor. Lotor didn’t invite him, but he doesn’t care. There’s a pair of redhaired sisters sitting on the ledge overlooking the grounds seemingly minding their own business. Lotor might know them but he hasn’t registered their existence yet and they don’t seem to mind.

Keith was running late.

Lance had arrived early.

Lotor wasn’t thinking straight.

Because everything Lotor did was calculated, meticulous, every possibility planned for. And in no way had Lotor even remotely considered any kind of repercussions to what he was doing. This was not the plan.

Because Romelle was late too.

This was what she was supposed to be doing.

Lotor wasn’t supposed to be sitting beside him, leaning into Lance’s side and smiling and so—so willing to… to…

To his credit, Lance at least looked a tad uncomfortable initially. Could probably smell the vodka on his breath. But then he’d warmed up. Casually (or perhaps unknowingly) bracing Lotor’s back with his arm and allowing him to press him further as they talked about—

What were they talking about?

Lance seemed to have skipped his suppressant that morning. It was infuriating. Soothing. Disgusting. Enamoring.

How drunk was he?

Lance was making him feel strange.

This was his fault, clearly. Alpha males and all their foul little tricks to get an omega to fall at their feet.

And despite knowing this Lotor simply couldn’t pull himself away.

“I have a few siblings myself though I don’t believe they’re nearly as charming as yours…” Lotor found himself saying as Lance beamed, happily discussing his twin sister’s penchant for art and how smart his older sister is. He seemed to be unabashedly proud of the women in his life and short of simply mentioning his twin was an omega (because Lotor had gone so far as to ask) he didn’t speak of her as if she were some how a lesser being.

This only won him a few points in Lotor’s book, of course. Because he could very easily just be another pretender like Regris.

But the way he spoke, soft and fond of his family, had Lotor’s heart aching just a bit.

Made him wish Sendak and Sincline had been…

Oh yes, Sincline.

“I’m a twin too, actually.”

Lance blinked at him, seemingly surprised at this little tidbit, “You sure?”

It took Lotor a moment. He leaned onto Lance’s shoulder, laying his head down gently as glanced down at his hands. For a moment he could almost imagine he was holding Sincline’s and about to introduce him properly.

Alas, they’d been that close only when they were toddlers.

“Yes.” Lotor said definitively, “Though I imagine Sindy often wishes we weren’t, it’s easier to forget, occasionally.”

“Cindy? Sister?”

“I wish. Perhaps he’d have some more humility then. No, sadly, Sincline is another alpha male, just like father and my eldest brother.”

Lance laughed, something small and gone to the evening air almost immediately, “Man, your mom must have had her hands full with all those alpha.”

See? Just like an alpha male, to presume his mother would be the one at odds. To presume his mother wasn’t an alpha also.

Yet he didn’t lift his head and instead breathed deeply, inhaling more of Lance’s scent that was far too pleasant to be coming from him. “I wouldn’t say so. Haven’t seen her since my eighth birthday.”

Lance pulled away just enough so that he could look Lotor in the face. At least, that’s what he presumed as he was jostled about by the distinct lack of alpha shoulder to lean on. No matter, wasn’t hard to find it again, and he didn’t give Lance the opportunity to look at him.

“I’m sorry.”

“Don’t be. Her presence was more of a hindrance in my life anyway. All that racket from fights with my father. Might it have been better if she’d taken me with her? Perhaps. The woman wasn’t particularly warm, I doubt it would have made a difference. So what does it matter now?” Why on earth was he talking so much?

He wanted a nap of some kind. Perhaps Lance would be willing to join him on one of the more comfortable seats downstairs in the buildings lounge. Did he want Lance to join him?

Why was he out here again.

Where was Keith?

“He’s so late and he has to see—he has to see you being—being…” Lotor swayed off of Lance’s shoulder and reached into his coat pocket to find his cellphone only to find his pockets had been emptied sometime earlier by one of his packmates.

He groaned and swayed right back into Lance’s only somewhat willing embrace. The alpha jumped and had to steady himself to not go over the side of the bench they both occupied.

“What are you being, Lance? You’re not behaving poorly but you’re… what?”

Lance laughed again, this one was stiffer, awkward, sat like a stone, “What?”

“You’re exhausting me.” Lotor said finally before raising his head up, ear still pressed to Lance’s shoulder so he could almost casually get directly at Lance’s neck. He wanted to smell. To be right there against that part of Lance that made him… dizzier than he was initially.

Lance went completely frigid at that though, sitting up straighter to get some distance from Lotor’s invading his personal space.

“Whoa, whoa okay man uh…so I got that you’re kinda messed up right now and maybe you’re just looking for a little bit of comfort, like the shoulder? No big deal. But I’m not—I’m kind of—I’m just not into alphas in that way, okay?”

Lotor forced himself to sit up right and leaned his head so far to the other side his ear nearly bumped his own shoulder.

“…I’m not an alpha?”

Lance blinked.

Lotor stared. Then a bubble of laughter caused him to bounce slightly as he was unprepared to release it. The next one came out between grit teeth and the one after that had him nearly doubled over, his head over Lance’s knee as he tried to hold his dizzy-inebriated self steady against his own laughter.

“Oh goodness did you really think—me? An alpha male? I can’t tell if you’re joking. Lance, how on earth—”

Lance looked like he was a few seconds from bursting himself but still managed a, “I don’t know! You’re intimidating as hell and smelled like one?!” before Lotor’s laughter won him over and they ended up with their arms slung over each others backs, now trying in vain to calm themselves down.

It took a few moments, but Lance returned to his senses first and helped Lotor straighten out again, “I mean it though. You really do… I mean, usually anyway. Today you smell like alcohol.”

Lotor nodded, wiping an imaginary tear from his eye, “Point taken. I suppose that’s primarily due to my packmates.” Lotor made a broad motion to the girls he was sure he’d always call family and turned back to Lance, “I have no qualms with alpha females, my mother aside, and with my history they have a tendency to be somewhat protective of me. I apologize for any confusion that could have caused…” he explained. Then he paused and glanced directly into Lance’s eyes, “And apparently, for being intimidating.”

Lance’s face darkened significantly, perhaps from shame or from Lotor’s tone of voice which Lotor would admit had a bit of an intimidating flirtatious vibe to it.

Regardless, Lance looked away and started to twiddle his fingers, “right, right… so no qualms against alpha females, I take it to mean you aren’t super fond of we men then, huh?”

Lotor smiled, reaching out with one finger to impolitely poke Lance directly atop the nose, “Right you are, Blue.”

“Blue? –uh… then uhm… why did you invite me? And aren’t you friends with Rolo?”

Lotor shrugged his shoulders, glancing over at the alpha male in question, “I do have some alpha male… acquaintances that are alright in small dosages. Rolo is slightly more tolerable than most as he has an alpha girlfriend. Between the two of them there’s no friction, no expectation of dominance on his part for being a male as it appears he’s willfully and happily already submitted to Nyma. They are a good match and I don’t worry about them ending up like my parents.”

Talking too much… too much too much…

“And me?”

“You’re not…”

“I’m not?”

“You’re supposed to… I had a plan and—it hasn’t… err… gone accordingly.”

Too much!

Lance raised a brow, leaning into Lotor’s space a little bit and Lotor found he didn’t mind it as much as he should have.

“Plan? What kind of plan?”

“I’d very much have liked to prove a point with you but it seems all I’ve managed to do instead is give myself a headache.” Lotor attempted to get to his feet and found his entire stance so unsteady he’d stumbled forward into Lance’s prepared arms again. “My apologies!” Lotor announced, slightly louder than intended and tried to pull himself up again.

Lance stood with him, arms out just in case Lotor needed him, but he continued to push, “What point were you trying to make?”

What was that again?

That Lance could be easily swayed by any pretty trophy like omega? That if the omega was well within the boundaries of acceptable and passive and pretty that was all any alpha male was interested in. Romelle was supposed to come in with her beautiful blond pigtails and her curves and her wild flower scent and she was supposed to saunter over to Lance and play the role she’d been given. But it seemed Lotor would have to have some words with his associate about keeping appointments.

Instead, what had Lotor proven today?

That he did in fact have a limit for the amount of alcohol he could consume and continue functioning at his usual proficiency.

That Lance was even more like Regris than he’d thought, at least all the positive aspects of him at this point. Which was not a good thing.

That Lance, when not on his suppressants, smelled like the home Lotor had so desperately sought after all his life.

Ah—that Lance was a dunce who thought Lotor was an alpha.

That could still work for him.

Lotor moved to step forward, closing in on the little space that still remained between them, “You thought I was an alpha… based on smell alone?”

“Well that and—” Lance paused, blushed and looked away, “Uhm. The whole uhm. Intimidation thing which I now realize, if you’re not an alpha is kind of…”

Given they were standing now Lotor could very easily make out their height difference and take total advantage of it, so he did, looming over Lance enough that the alpha had to crane his neck and lean back to keep eye contact. Why he didn’t just step away was anyone’s guess but Lotor didn’t mind.

“I-I mean… you could—you could probably step on someone and they’d uh… thank you.”

Lotor raised a brow, a small smile playing on his lips, “Really now? Would you?”

“Would I what?”

“Thank me?”

“Oh uh. Probably. Yeah.”

“But you thought I was an alpha. Thought you weren’t into alpha.” Because you would like your partners submissive and whimpering into your arms, wouldn’t you?

“I’m uhm—I’m just not into alpha cause of scents like—uhm—gosh could you back up for like a second it’s really hard to uhh…” They both took a step back, Lance to breathe and Lotor purely because the tension escaping Lance’s shoulders was too amusing not to indulge.

“So my nose is like stupidly sensitive? And there’s just something about alpha’s that just makes me nauseas—like they make me really nervous, cause it’s sort of default combative and I get combative and then that makes my stomach—it’s nothing against them, one of my best friends is an alpha and she’s the best—and there’s this T.A. I’ve basically been in love with since we met I mean she’s friggen gorgeous but like—I just uhm. Can’t. Physically? Handle it. And… I mean I can still find them insanely attractive and want—I just. Can’t do the whole… life thing…? And I’m kinda looking for long term so…”

Lotor stared at him for a long moment, even after his babbling had dwindled to his mumbling under his breath and staring off to the side. It was quite endearing. Also somewhat maddening.

“So, if you couldn’t smell your alpha partner’s pheromones, it wouldn’t matter to you what they were?”

“I mean, yeah? But it would kind of suck to not be able to… to bond in that way you know? It’s kind of… important to me.”

Lotor felt his chest seize up for a moment. Keith’s scent was being heavily weighed down by an exploratory program of injectable suppressants, even if he wanted to come off them it would be sometime before his own natural scent returned to even remotely normal standards. Lotor could still smell it occasionally when shoved right against Keith’s throat but this was only because he’d remembered it from before and could still tell the difference.

Lotor had wanted to find a reason for Keith to look at Lance and know that Lotor was the better match for him, but this wasn’t the way. This would be no one’s fault, no one’s misgiving, just someone who wasn’t able to provide something the other needed to—

…much like his own current situation with Keith.

“Being out here with my packmates must be somewhat troubling for you then, isn’t it?” Lotor asked absently, unsure what it was he was feeling now.

Lance shook his head, “Well yeah a little. Was kind of stupid of me to skip my suppressant today but I thought uh… I mean I also have this fun little aroma therapy thing that’s like super strong so it’s helping, and it totally smells like roses so it’s chill.”

Lotor eyed him curiously, “Aroma therapy?”

“Yeah, it’s just—” He reached into his pocket and came up empty. “Hold on—this thing was totally here a minute ago… little bitty bottle with a scented oil? I just kinda dotted it under my nose and bam, my own personal air freshener. Sort of.”

Was that it then? The smell that was causing Lotor to lose his damn mind? Some dots of scented oil?

“May I?”

Lance blinked. Lotor leaned forward and sniffed audibly.

“Oh uh—s—sure? I guess uhm—”

Lotor nodded and leaned in close to Lance’s face, tilting his head in a way that made it appear as if they might nearly kiss. Not that Lotor thought of that at all or anything. He was just trying to tell the difference between Lance’s scent and the one he’d applied to aid himself.

He’d just about reached his conclusion when the sound of crushed plastic and a spilled drink snapped Lotor away.

Both men turned to face Lotor’s packmates as they scrambled around to try and clean up the mess. Ezor was helpfully wiping at Acxa’s hands, sticky with whatever she’d been drinking while Narti disposed of the broken cup and Zethrid attempted to clean what made it to the floor though most of it was on Acxa’s shirt and pants.

“What happened?” Lotor called to them.

Ezor laughed awkwardly and Zethrid shouted a quick, “Nothing! Nothing important!”

Lotor was sure this wasn’t true and made to walk over to them before deciding against it and glancing back at Lance. Lance raised his hand and pointed towards the stairs that lead back into the building, “I’m actually gonna go check the bathroom, the scented oil belongs to my buddy Hunk and that was the last place I had it.”

Lotor nodded, fighting everything in him that wanted to argue that Lance shouldn’t leave.

“K, be right back—oh, but before I forget… if you’re not an alpha then…”

Lotor had half the mind to grab him and hold his face against his neck, force him to breathe past that little barrier of rose scented whatever and realize what Lotor was painfully coming to terms with.

Instead, he shrugged, “Figure it out?”

Lance’s eyes went wide before he promptly spun on his heels and continued away, mumbling something in a high tone of voice that sounded something like, “right! Right. Yeah. Okay. be right back. Already said that. Uhh hahaa…” and then he was gone down the stairs.

When Lotor accosted his packmates to explain how Acxa had gotten assaulted with her own tea Ezor jumped in to explain it was her tea.

Except that made no sense because Ezor didn’t drink tea.

“Right! Well—see, I thought I’d gotten the apple juice but I grabbed the wrong cup and like—yuck, so I dropped it and Acxa being—you know, her amazing self with those cat like reflexes—she tried to catch it and—and—”

“Crushed it.” Offered Narti, quietly.

Acxa said nothing, staring at the ground as Ezor continued trying to clean her up with a bunch of wet wipes she’d grabbed from Narti’s bag. But, not having the energy to push the matter further, Lotor sighed and asked which one of them had taken his phone.

“Well I’m the one who took it,” Ezor explained, “But Zethrid is the one who has it.”

Zethrid was returning from tossing out some used-up paper towels when Lotor asked for his phone.

“Keith is far too late; I need to check up on him, hopefully nothing’s happened…”

Someone bumped into Lotor’s shoulder and he turned so quickly he almost lost his balance.

“Hey! Chill, I just got here,” Keith chuckled, hand gripping Lotor’s arm as he smiled at his friend’s jumpiness. “Was wondering why you didn’t reply… you good now? Sobering up? Should I get you some water?”

Lotor studied Keith’s face for a long moment, his lovely eyes and thick brows, the curve of his lips and how that softness was something that had been reserved just for him for so long…

He leaned forward to pop a quick kiss to Keith’s lips before wrapping his arms around him and shoving his face in his neck, inhaling deeply.

Of course, he got Keith’s shampoo, the smell of his laundry detergent and other things he’d gotten used to knowing as Keith in place of his natural scent. It wasn’t as soothing as someone’s natural pheromones, certainly not like the alpha male he’d been cuddled up to earlier.

(Lotor?? Lotor cuddled up to an alpha male??? What was wrong with him?!)

Lotor nuzzled against his collar so hard he might hurt him, and there buried beneath the rest of it, he caught a whiff, a hint of what Keith really was. Yesterday’s stress seemed to be passing and it was already fading away again.

“Whoa—hey, hey… what’s wrong?” Keith’s hands came up to smooth over the back of Lotor’s head and down his back. It was an awkward position as Lotor had to hunch over and Keith was only barely touching the ground with the tips of his toes, held up primarily by Lotor’s arms. If Lotor got dizzy again it was over for both of them.

He didn’t though. He remained firmly planted there. Breathing deeply while Keith tried to comfort him.

He could feel Keith mouthing questions at his packmates behind his back but didn’t care.

He wanted Keith. He was in love with Keith. Scent or no scent. Fucking knot or no knot.

Just because Lance’s scent seemed to scream that it completed him—well—it didn’t fucking mean anything!
