The battle was for the most part even matched, for Ulmo had aided them and Morgoth's plans had gone astray. But still Morgoth's hosts were strong and numerous, and Doriath sent no aid.
Yet just as it seemed that the tide of battle would turn against the Noldor and hope began to fail them, they looked up, and behold! The banners of the Feanorians came streaming on the wind, and Maedhros rode swiftly at the forefront of his armies, and his face was terrible to look upon.
Then the Noldor rejoiced, and they redoubled their attack, and the enemy was routed and slain.
But there were balrogs, and Amras fought them valiantly and died.
(Wow, that could have been me, thought Angrod, I'm so glad it was a dumb Feanorian instead. I'm going to be able to have so many conversations with people now.)
