Chapter Text

Namjoon found it easy to write for Jimin. Especially when it concerned love. It felt like if any human being could breathe affection, it was this man, flourishing in the most beautiful of specimen. Namjoon wrote an entire song for him, and then some. He stowed away lyrics, saved them for when the timing would be right. For when the inspiration would strike just right and he’d find a note to his title, a melody for his verse.

Jimin loved Serendipity . He cherished it so much Namjoon could only feel like he understood exactly what Namjoon had been thinking of when he’d scribbled down the words none of this is a coincidence .

It wasn’t. You see, Namjoon always prioritized healing his members over anything. And the reason why he’d even thought of writing a song for Jimin was because of… a certain situation.

It shouldn’t have been a big deal. Love was never supposed to be a punishment, although for Jimin, it sure felt that way. His first kiss was unfortunately private, and occurred under very turbulent circumstances. Yoongi had always had a knack for being in the right place at the right time. He just had what some called the manager’s instinct. If there was something going on, he usually let his sixth sense guide him towards the source. It started when Jimin and Jungkook stopped talking.

Namjoon was fairly sure Taehyung had tried to coax Jimin out of secrecy but apparently he refused to budge. Jungkook for one had this strange, disturbed air about him. Like he’d witnessed something he shouldn’t have. Yoongi told Namjoon to relax, that he had this one.

But the fact that Yoongi was dealing with this so indirectly unnerved him a little. It was dragging on and on and by the end of the third week, Namjoon decided that Yoongi’s technique wasn’t going anywhere.

“I have a feeling,” Yoongi said when Namjoon came to confide his worries to him, in the privacy of his studio.

“What do you mean?” Namjoon asked, voice a little tight. “Hyung, did you figure it out?”

Yoongi hummed, hand running repeatedly through his thin dyed hair.

“Someone saw something they weren’t supposed to,” Yoongi spoke slowly, like what he was saying was the most important thing the team leader was ever going to hear.

“Like what?”

“Oh I have no idea,” Yoongi confessed, unbothered by the ambiguity of the conversation. “But Jungkook is obviously in love.”

Namjoon held very still. Yoongi took a sip of his wine and offered some to Namjoon who downed the entire glass. He blinked a couple of times, processing the information, but the word still rushed out of his mouth like he hadn’t even put thought into it.

“What?”

Yoongi giggled and started cleaning up his desk. A nervous habit, hard for anyone to spot but, good god, anyone that knew Yoongi well knew that when he was truly disturbed about anything, he cleaned.

“Hey,” Yoongi spoke when he thought he made it clear he thought the question was rhetorical. “Jimin’s beautiful lately, no?”

Namjoon scoffed, unsure why this had anything to do with the situation.

“You know what I mean,” Yoongi commented when he saw the look on the leader’s face. Utter confusion, like Yoongi was speaking an entirely different language.

“Have you ever liked someone?”

Namjoon winced, “I don’t like this conversation.”

“Nobody does, that’s why I’m here.” Yoongi’s tone was firm and decided. “Do you remember the first time we introduced Serendipity to the team?”

“Yeah,” Namjoon said hesitantly. It was a great memory. The leader was very proud of that particular piece. It was soft, generous, a promise of something better, something good coming out of the darkest night. Like fighting air after drowning for long. Jimin had cried when he was told that the song was his, and even more so when Namjoon confessed he made it especially for him.

It was like setting a part of Jimin free, that even though he felt like he should be burdened by so many things, love wasn’t one of them. Feelings came and went, and maybe, just maybe love was meant to be cherished and not dragged around like a ball on a chain.

The more you embrace something, the more you become it. If Jimin was someone holding on to a lot of repressed feelings, well the amount of love he poured out from then on was like the floodgates opening. And where there’s love… jealousy usually trails behind.

“Jimin is a good person,” Yoongi said. “Like, I don’t want to believe anyone’s born inherently good or bad, but if Jimin had to pick I’d say he’d choose to do the right thing. But that doesn’t mean he can’t make mistakes.”

Namjoon figured Yoongi had a point, and it was not advisable to interrupt him. Yoongi wasn’t big on speeches when he was on personal time. Eventually he’d tire himself out and tuck himself in, and until then Namjoon better fucking listen .

“Of course, under our very specific circumstances, there could be several reasons why Jungkook’s behaving the way he is. But he’s always made it very clear that Jimin’s...special, right?”

Yoongi paused, almost long enough for Namjoon to think that he was expecting an answer. He opened his mouth but Yoongi went on.

“Like, I’m not an expert, but I think that the kiss just confirmed it…”

“A kiss?!” Namjoon shrieked.

Yoongi was quick enough to slap his hand over Namjoon’s mouth, but half of it landed in it, but it worked either way. Yoongi yanked his hand back and rubbed it against his sweater, a pained expression taking over his face.

“Who kissed whom?”

Yoongi shook his head. “That’s not the point.”

“There’s a better point than Jimin kissing someone?” Namjoon wasn’t sure he was saying the smartest thing anymore, but he felt like he needed to know anyway.

“It’s none of our business,” Yoongi slurred and took the empty glass from Namjoon’s hand.

He watched in silence as his hyung poured himself another glass of wine and took the tiniest of sips, as if he wasn’t sure he liked the wine in the first place.

Namjoon wasn’t exactly anxious. Of course, having downed the wine earlier might have helped, but he was surprised by the general tenure of this serious conversation. But then, he remembered this was Yoongi, and nothing was ever like it seemed when it came to him.

He was a whole series of twists and turns, of beautiful and horrible surprises. Namjoon was convinced that the secret to Yoongi’s happiness was found in those little moments, things, conversations and small sips of wine. He wasn’t a man who spent his money on anything but music. He was so down to earth, it’s like grass could start sprouting from him any day now. Yet, he knew things about people you couldn’t even fathom yourself. His ability to believe in the good of people was uncanny.

Namjoon shook his head. What was he even thinking about?

“We can’t change what happened, we can only deal with the aftermath. Which brings us to what I said earlier.”

Yoongi waved his hand dramatically in the air like he was conducting a symphony. “Jungkook knows Jimin loves him now. Sure, he might have overlooked it before because just like Jimin, he was scared of what it meant. But now he does.”

“What does this have to do with the kiss?” Namjoon asked, secretly begging that nothing more was going down the drain than his own sanity.

“Well, the fact that Jungkook knows might just be why he’s pissed the kiss happened in the first place.”

“So they didn’t kiss,” Namjoon exhaled rapidly through his mouth, like the air had just been knocked out of him.

“Ugh, why are you so hung up on who Jimin kissed?”

“Because…” Namjoon stopped himself, the answer on the tip on his tongue tasted bitter and he hated that his brain had even formulated it.

Namjoon thought he was better than this. He sighed and Yoongi watched him silently as he worked out through his shame.

“You’re right, it doesn’t matter.”

“We need to care for our own,” Yoongi said. “And make them talk to each other.”

Namjoon agreed, of course, but his brain felt a little fried and he was hungry. He hadn’t eaten since breakfast and his stomach was churning. No wonder the wine had hit so hard.

That’s also probably why it was easier to convince him to let Yoongi handle that meeting.

Namjoon was told not to get involved, and he only agreed on the condition that he was allowed to stand outside the door.

In hindsight, locking them in Jimin’s bedroom might have been a mistake, but it doesn’t mean that they didn’t break things. There was some yelling involved, mostly from Jimin.

Namjoon forgot how long it lasted, it felt like hours, but really it was probably just half of one.

When they came out their eyes were bloodshot and Namjoon feared at first that nothing was settled, but he was proved wrong later that evening when he caught them sitting next to each other on the couch. Jimin’s hand was resting on Jungkook’s thigh and even though they were acting like it was normal, Namjoon couldn’t help but feel like he owed Yoongi one.

After all, all Jimin need was Jungkook. An angry and confused Jungkook.
