Chapter 8: One birth, a family reunion and a wedding

Summary:

Happy ending!

Notes:

Last chapter y'all, hopefully I managed to tie up all the loose ends.

Chapter Text

Law didn't leave after the check-up. In fact, the surgeon stayed and looked over some other pirates, mostly due to his newfound rivalry with Leo. No one knew where it had come from and the Ouroboros, for one, didn't care. Though, the bickering did mean Alexia and Ace heard nothing about the actual results until three days after the fact. Thankfully, at least Leo seemed apologetic about that.

“Well, first things first, Lex at this point in time you could, in theory, find out the sex of the baby. Unfortunately I have no idea how to do this, so it's gonna be a surprise until the end.” the ginger-haired doctor explained, holding a stack of papers which he was using to emote, for the lack of a better word. Either that or he was flailing them around so that Law couldn't get them without using his fruit which would honestly be a waste of stamina.

“Regardless,” he continued, once again swiping his arm upwards, Law's hand missing the papers by a hair, much to the surgeon's growing ire “The babies are a little bit bigger than expected, which is why you're showing so much so early, but I doubt there'll be much complications. Don't worry, I've made preparations for a c-section just in case, but you'll probably be able to do a natural birth.”

That might actually be the reason Law hadn't left yet. As the man was a surgeon, he was more qualified to operate than Leo, who'd had to learn most of the things he knew only after they had ended up in this hellhole of a series.

Leo had been studying to become a general doctor, not a maternity one, after all, so he'd had to learn everything concerning it on his own.

Wait, 'babies'? Plural?

Leo must have noticed the widening of her eyes, since he jerked “Oh, yeah, surprise, they're twins.”

There was a solid thunk as Ace, once again, passed out from shock.

Al looked at her baby daddy, before turning her unimpressed stare at the doctors “You did that on purpose.”

Leo shrugged “Gotta get my entertainment from somewhere.” unfortunately, answering her question distracted him long enough for Law to swipe the papers “Hey!”

The Surgeon of Death smirked at his rival “Too slow, Leo-ya.”

Said red-head glowered but made no move to get the stack back. Yet.

Al turned back to Ace only to see Jim and Jonas carrying him towards their ship, turning to her sister, she squinted at the elder woman.

Said woman raised her hands in surrender “I'll be gentle.” she assured her.

That didn't make her feel better. At all. But, she sighed “I need him alive and functional.”

Ed smirked as she backed up “Yees, yees.” she drawled before spinning around and following her underlings/friends.

The pregnant woman sighed as she looked up into the vast blue sky, wondering how this was her life.

She never did find out what exactly happened on their ship. She only knew that Ace didn't stop flinching in the presence of her sister for a worryingly long time. She may have given her sister the silent treatment for scarring her fiance until the woman apologized. Ace got slightly better after that.

Though he kept flinching whenever Ed started yelling at people for drinking. And that only started when a party was held and she tried to take a swig from her mug, before realizing “Wait a minute, I can't drink, you're pregnant!” while pointing at Alexia.

Ace just stared at her in incomprehension “That's... that's not how it works...”

But the Captain was already on her crusade “No one near the baby is allowed to drink! Not until it's three years old!”

The couple had traded glances but said nothing. She'd find out soon enough about the amount of babies.

The pregnancy was slightly difficult, which wasn't surprising when you thought about it. She was carrying two D's in her, after all. Not to mention it was her first pregnancy. She only rolled her eyes, very tiredly but she did roll them, a little when she was told that she'd had one of each. Of course she would, because why not.

She'd been a little surprised when Ace had handed over naming them entirely to her. Well, he had only himself to blame for what she came up with.

Ace looked at the sleeping faces of his children, tucked in a shared bassinet, curled together for warmth. He hadn't been able to come up with any good names, so he'd left it entirely up to 'Lexia.

He wasn't sure he liked her smirk as she scribbled said names in the manila folder at her side. She'd fallen asleep soon after and he hadn't even thought about peeking, content to watch over their little miracles.

He'd never really thought he'd have kids, let alone that he'd settle down. But... he could see himself doing it with her. She had carried his children, knowing the risk, knowing exactly who he was... he couldn't help but admire that.

He wondered if her resolve was what his mother had possessed back when she was in practically the same position. Or if Alexia had borrowed strength from the ghost of the Pirate King's wife.

It was a stupid thought, but...

The Fire Logia looked up when the red-haired doctor opened the door once again “So what's the verdict?” the physician asked, adjusting his glasses.

Ace shook his head, knowing what was being asked, but not having the answer “'Lexia conked out as soon as she finished naming them.” he said, nodding towards the folder.

Leo raised an eyebrow in disbelief “Are you telling me you gave her free reign?” he asked, making his way over and picking up the damning documentation. As he read through it, he snorted “Ho boy, you have no idea what you set yourself up for.”

The 2nd Division Commander raised an eyebrow as he reached for the folder, reading through the papers himself when they were handed to him “Huh, that's not too bad...”

The ginger snorted again, shaking his head “Right, no context.” the man chuckled, leaning forward and tapping his son's name “Portgas D. Zuko. Named after a fictional Prince of the Fire Nation, later the King of said nation. With the power over fire.” the man wryly explained “She named him after both you and your father, without being in-your-face about it. Now, Anna-Marie, on the other hand,” he continued, tapping his daughter's name “is a little more obscure. Another fictional person, this time with the power to borrow the powers of others. But what's important is the name she gave herself... 'Rogue'.”

Ace snapped his head up to stare the older man down, wondering if he'd heard that right.

The man huffed, still smiling “R-o-g-u-e. It's not spelled the same, but it sure as hell sounds like it. She named her after your mom.” the man sighed, shaking his head “I swear, that woman...”

Ace looked back down at the black-on-white text, before closing the folder and handing it back. He then turned around to his children again, taking in his little miracles.

Leo said nothing as he put the folder back on the bed. And if the new father's face became wet with tears, well, he saw nothing.

A red stone in the shape of a heart, set in silver metal. That was the ring he got her. Rumors said he'd dueled Mihawk for it, when in actuality he'd dueled the man for advice on where to get the best quality work. The man had been too confused to deny him.

The wedding was a big event and was to be officiated by Whitebeard himself. It was no surprise, really, that Alexia decided to take things into her own hands once again and call the Revolutionaries. She'd already gotten Rayleigh to bring Luffy from his training to see it happen. And meet his niece and nephew.

Once Dragon picked up, Alexia was fully in her Informant mode “Hello, Dragon. I have something for you.”

The man sounded wary “Informant. What is it?”

The woman feared thorough the underworld smirked “I am calling in my favour, Dragon-san... but don't worry, you'll gain from it.”

The dubious look on the Den Den told her everything she needed to know. She laughed as she continued on with her message/request/invitation “Luffy will be attending his sworn brother's wedding not too long from now. I would like it if you brought the remaining third and make it a family reunion. Well, without your father. He's not invited.”

Dragon frowned, but soon gained some idea of who she could possibly be talking about. There was only one person he had in his employ who was the correct age and recruited from the right place.

The Informant hummed happily “Yes, if you'd bring your Chief of Staff to his brother's wedding, I would appreciate it and consider your favour... repaid.”

After giving him the location, she realized she hadn't even told him about the new additions to the family “Oh, and perhaps bring some gifts for the kids, Dragon-jiichan.” she quipped before disconnecting.

This... would be fun.

To say that he was confused would be an understatement, Sabo mused. Dragon had, for some odd reason, dragged him away as soon as he came back from his latest mission, still pouting that he hadn't been assigned to Marineford, and told that he was coming with Dragon to pay the Informant's favour. That had sent a chill up his spine, he wouldn't lie, but nothing had really happen since.

And then they'd come to a Whitebeard island, with most of the Yonko's crew on said island Red Haired Shanks was also there with his crew as was the Ouroboros. They were a very small crew with suspected ties to The Informant. Nothing concrete, but it made things a little clearer. Until he realized that there was a wedding taking place and that they were on the guest list. And Dragon was still stone faced, though it seemed like he was discreetly trying to look around, searching for something. Sabo was unnerved, to say the least.

And then his mind went blank when a warm, moving bundle was deposited in his arms. He had to scramble to hold the baby, because that was what he'd been given oh god, correctly, before looking up to see another being deposited in Dragon's arms, who looked as put together as ever. Sabo was envious and pretty sure that the man had known. Damnit.

The woman, the Captain of the Ouroboros, if he was to guess, grinned “Glad you could show up, father-in-law dearest.” she snarked, before nodding to the baby in his arms “Meet your grandson, Portgas D. Zuko. And that,” she nodded to the bundle in Sabo's arms “is Portgas D. Anna-Marie. Make sure not to drop her, but you might want to use her as a shield once Ace is told who you are.”

Sabo's thoughts screeched to a halt “What?”

Why would he need shielding from Fire Fist?

The Captain grinned as she dropped her hand on his shoulder, causing him to stumble slightly “Your background isn't that hard to figure out if you know where to look. So take care of your niece, dearest brother-in-law, while we tell your brothers that you have amnesia but did not in fact die on them. Now shush and watch our siblings get married.”

For some reason, a part of Sabo rebelled at the thought of Portgas D. Ace getting married. Or even having kids. But he pushed that part away and sat quietly even as he cried inside at the unfairness of it all. Like the fact that Dragon-san looked much too happy to have a baby in his grasp while he was panicking inside.

I will get you back for this, Dragon-san, just you wait...

Dragon felt a slight chill up his spine and shot a glance towards his paler than normal Chief of Staff, before shrugging it off.

As the ceremony progressed, Sabo felt more and more wrong, which chipped away at the barrier between him and his memories. It didn't take him too long to remember some minor details, which helped him come up with a plan of revenge.

Mainly, snatching his apparent nephew away from Dragon-san and calling “Hey, Luffy, look! It's your dad!” before ducking out of the way of a Gum-Gum-Rocket and cackling slightly when Dragon-san didn't manage to dodge. He then looked at the two babies in his arms and cursed “Damn, I didn't plan this far.” before looking up and coming face to face with a shocked Portgas D. Ace.

“Sabo?” the Fire Logia asked weakly, hand outstretched in his direction while his wife stood in the background eyeing Luffy and Dragon-san with humor.

“Uh, in my defense I still don't remember that much except that you settling down is weird!” the blond blurted, absently righting his hold on the two bundles “Also, I'm holding children please don't hurt me.”

All in all, Alexia thought as Ace started hugging his brother and crying while Sabo was unable to escape due to his hands being otherwise occupied, a successful endeavor.

And without any bloodshed and only minimal injuries, too! Now to wait for allof Sabo's memories to come back.

Oh well, it wouldn't take too long, she was sure. After all, Luffy's own brand of Deus Ex Machina was present, and nothing could really beat that except Oda's need for angst.

But, well... Oda had no power here.

The Informant smiled to herself as Luffy finally joined his brother in crying and hugging their previously missing third, being careful not to hurt the babies. Yes, everything was turning out quite nicely.

Now to just avoid Garp at all costs.
