Chapter Text
Kaidou doesn’t know what’s worse—the fact that he called guardian spirits dumb, or the fact that it’s written on Toritsuka’s wrist for the rest of his life.
It’s probably the fact that his guardian spirit is actually a chihuahua.
Toritsuka laughs it off and says it’s cute, but Kaidou still feels like he completely embarrassed himself in front of his soulmate. He covers his face with his bandaged hands, Toritsuka pulling them away and moving his hair out of his face.
“I want to see you,” he says, giving Kaidou a warm, comforting smile. “I’ve imagined you as a girl my entire life—now I just don’t want to stop looking at you.”
/
He’s wondered about his soulmate every day for his whole life. It’s wonderful how he’s standing right next to him now.
Toritsuka is like a bright, shining star, and there’s so much look at, so much to see and learn about him.
His powers truly are amazing, at least to Kaidou—he thinks it’s funny when Toritsuka shoos off ghosts only he can see, wanting to spend alone time with his soulmate. He’s ridiculously cute, and it should be illegal.
Toritsuka’s taller than him and gives him suffocating hugs, picking him up and spinning him around. He plays with Kaidou’s hair and his bandages, and the way he says Jet Black Wings is breathtaking, like everything else about him...
His eyes, his smile, his laugh—it’s all breathtaking. The way he blushes when Kaidou says
“You’re the most beautiful person I’ve ever met.”
is so breathtaking. He’s happy that he found his soulmate, and he thinks this is the happiest he’s ever been in his life.

Toritsuka rubs his thumb over Kaidou’s red bandages as they walk hand-in-hand out of school, as Kaidou smiles and leans against his shoulder.
Kaidou glances down at their intertwined fingers, seeing the words written on his soulmate’s wrist.
“Guardian spirit? Sounds dumb.”
“Do you wanna go get some ice cream?”
Kaidou looks at him.
“Maybe as a...” Toritsuka blushes. “... first date?”
First date... that’s right—they’re dating. It literally just hit him.
He thinks his palms are sweaty. He looks up at Toritsuka with a nervous smile.
“Sure—!”
He doesn’t know why he’s so nervous to go on a date with his soulmate—he thought the nervousness had gone away when they met, but he’s never dated anyone before... he spent all that time waiting for his soulmate, and now he’s here. And they’re dating—
His brain is turning to goo. He thinks if Toritsuka smiles at him one more time, he’ll explode!
Toritsuka pulls him forward by the hand, before Kaidou runs in front of him, insisting on leading the way.
His cheeks are pink, and he says
“The Jet Black Wings will lead the way to a nice, romantic café...!”
and Toritsuka smiles at him. He thinks he does explode, if only a little.
/
When they walk to the café, Kaidou tells a story about a battle against Dark Reunion. It took place right near the café, and Dark Reunion fled in fear, of course—and Toritsuka seems... actually interested in the story.
He nods along to Kaidou’s story and smiles at him, ruffling his hair when the tale ends and calling him cute. Kaidou blushes at that, and Toritsuka says
“Your powers must be pretty strong, huh?”
and... usually, people laugh at his stories, but Toritsuka’s enjoying them. He’s used to being mocked and ridiculed... but Toritsuka isn’t making fun of him. He’s listening to his stories and saying that he likes them. Somebody actually likes his stories!
As they walk into the café, Kaidou looks up into Toritsuka’s eyes. He wants to give him a hug, and... maybe, if he’d let him, a kiss...
/
When they’re seated in the café, Kaidou tells Toritsuka about his dreams of the two of them fighting Dark Reunion together. They’re holding hands across the table, but Toritsuka lets go to run the hand through his hair.
“I don’t know, I’ve never fought Dark Reunion before,” he says. “And my powers are kinda... annoying. The ghosts are, I mean.”
“I think your powers are amazing...!”
Toritsuka’s cheeks go pink. Kaidou likes his blush—it’s adorable.
“I don’t, like, use my powers to fight evil or anything...” Toritsuka says.
“What do you use them for?”
“Looking up girls’s skirts.”
Kaidou blinks.
“B-but I’ll only be looking at you now!” Toritsuka says, reaching across the table to take Kaidou’s hand again. He smiles and squeezes his hand back.
/
When they’re finished eating, they sit on a couch in the café, side-by-side and thighs barely touching, and all they’ve done is hug and hold hands, but Kaidou wants to cuddle up next to Toritsuka.
He’s thinking about all the things they can do together, besides hug and hold hands, like... cuddle. And kiss.
Kaidou’s never kissed anyone before. His cheeks turn red and his leg starts to bounce. Toritsuka is his soulmate, and he knows they’ll kiss at some point, but thinking about it makes him—
Toritsuka’s staring at him.
He jumps a little, and Toritsuka mumbles an apology, looking down at his bouncing leg. His face is red, just like Kaidou’s. Maybe he was thinking about...
“I really want to kiss you,” he says, looking at Kaidou with a soft expression. Kaidou squeaks, and the nervousness makes him want to curl up into a little ball.
Toritsuka shakes his head. “It’s weird, I’ve thought about kissing girls my whole life, but... I’m just so nervous right now.”
He lets out a laugh. Kaidou doesn’t laugh, but he does give a nervous smile. He’s sweating a little bit...
“What’s on your mind?” Toritsuka asks.
I know we’re soulmates and we’re literally destined to get married but just thinking about kissing you makes me so nervous.
“Probably what’s on yours,” Kaidou says.
Toritsuka has the most beautiful smile that Kaidou’s ever seen, and the way his eyes light up...
Kaidou’s looking at him lovingly as he scoots closer to him, their thighs up against each other and their fingers brushing. Toritsuka’s smile never leaves his face as he reaches up to cup Kaidou’s cheek.
He’s really going to have his first kiss...! Kaidou closes his eyes as Toritsuka leans in...
The kiss is soft and quick, lips gently pressed against lips for barely a second. But it’s the perfect first kiss, and he’s so happy right now.
Kaidou feels Toritsuka hold his hand, and he opens his eyes to see that beautiful smile again. He rests his forehead against Toritsuka’s and smiles back at him.
Toritsuka puts an arm around Kaidou, pulling him closer to his side, Kaidou resting his head on his soulmate’s shoulder. He feels Toritsuka place a small kiss on the top of his head.
He knows he can defeat Dark Reunion with Toritsuka. But maybe they can just sit here and cuddle for now, and just enjoy being in each other’s arms...
/
When they walk home from the café, Toritsuka tells him that the chihuahua had a good time on the date, too.
Kaidou laughs, pulling him in for a kiss before saying goodbye.
