Chapter Text
It’s Saturday afternoon, otherwise known as the day Izuku and Shoto agreed their date would be, and Shoto is nervous. More nervous than he’s ever been for anything in his entire sixteen years of living.
It’s dumb, really. He was the one who told Izuku it would be just like hanging out with a friend. That was such bad advice to give now that he thinks about it. A date is nothing like hanging out with a friend. Well, it was in some aspects, but not all .
Friends don’t kiss each other is what Shoto’s trying to say. Not traditional friends, anyway. He’s well aware that he and Izuku are boyfriends, and he’s sure Izuku is too, why wouldn’t he be?
To be honest, most of these overbearingly stupid thoughts are just so Shoto could distract himself from Izuku’s impending arrival. (Otherwise he’d be standing in front of the door.. staring ). Sometimes letting his mind spiral did good things for him, most times not so much. This was one of those times, because what the hell is he even talking about?
He needed to get a hold of himself. This date would go just fine. Actually, no, it would go perfect . Izuku deserved a perfect first date. What if Shoto couldn’t provide that? Would he tell him at the end?
‘ Hey, just so you know, you’re kind of a shitty boyfriend. ’
Agh, no. Izuku would never say that. At least not out loud. Maybe he’ll pretend he enjoyed the date and just lie straight to Shoto’s face with that pretty smile of his.
Shoto’s not sure which option he’d prefer.
There’s a knock at the door, and he knows exactly who it is.
Is it weird that he knows how his boyfriend knocks on his front door? In his defense, it’s a pretty unique way of knocking on someone’s door. He knocks six times. Nobody ever knocks six times.
He tries not to run to the door, so he compensates by speed walking. Which is really just Shoto jogging.
He composes himself as best he can, even taking in a deep breath which literally does nothing.
Shoto swings the door open quickly. (He’s not a big fan of suspense.) To nobody’s surprise, it’s Izuku. He looks cute. Very cute. Always cute.
Shoto should say something instead of staring, maybe.
“ You look cute, ” He spits out, mouth and brain working separately at a time like this. He doesn’t regret saying it, not after Izuku blushes that cute blush that makes his freckles pop .
“ Thanks, s-so do you. ” The boy grins, bouncing softly on the tips of his toes. Oh, now, that’s cute. Like, distractingly cute. Shoto’s going to think about this for the rest of the day.
Right now though, he should attempt to be a decent boyfriend. He lets Izuku in, and they sit on the couch in Shoto’s living room. “ Our uber should be here in like ten minutes so we won’t have to wait long. ”
Izuku’s eyes sparkle. “ Is the place far? ”
Shoto squints his eyes at him, wondering if he was being cute on purpose now. Trying to trick Shoto into telling him where they were going. And it would definitely work, if Izuku worked him up enough, Shoto would definitely tell him.
“ I’m not telling you anything . Let me surprise you, please. ” Maybe if he made it seem like he had control over his mouth right now then Izuku wouldn’t push it.
It worked. Ha. Izuku’s face softens, and he agrees right away, thank the Gods .
Their uber finally arrives, his mother texts him to let him know because she was the one paying for it so naturally she’d be the one getting the notification for it.
He texts her back a ‘thank you’ and leads Izuku outside, the both of them looking for a black Honda Civic.
When they find it, all the way at the corner of Shoto’s street, they exchange greetings with the driver and are soon on their way.
He checks the time on his phone, 7:03PM . Time plays a big role in this date. Shoto spent at least two hours the previous night trying to figure out what the best time to leave was so that they wouldn’t miss the sunset.
Izuku is bouncing in his seat, talking a mile a minute about literally everything. He was so expressive when he talked. Especially when he was excited. That was one of the many things Shoto loves about him.
Yeah, he said love. He’s definitely in love with the boy sitting next to him. There was no doubt about it.
The drive itself only lasts about thirty-ish minutes, and their surroundings reminded him a lot of camp. Trees and nature everywhere. The sun’s already beginning to set, so Shoto’s relieved when the driver finally slows to a stop, parking in front of a museum. The museum.
He thanks the driver, and the both of them exit the vehicle. The look on Izuku’s face is precious.
He looks so overwhelmed, like there’s too many emotions for him to choose from that he just looks constipated. ‘Feeling vomit’ is what Shoto calls it. All in all, he looks happy, which takes a weight off a Shoto’s shoulders.
“ I can’t… believe you. ” Izuku breathes, finally speaking after gaping at the world around them. Shoto smiles softly, not being able to help it. Izuku just makes him react like that.
“ Do you like your surprise? ” He asks, kind of joking, kind of not. He needs validation of being a good boyfriend, he absolutely needs it.
Izuku turned to him with his wide eyes, mouth parted only a little. “ Are you kidding ? I’ve always wanted to come to the Observatory. I love it. ”
Shoto can tell he’s at a loss for words, because usually he’d have a lot more to say and Shoto would listen closely.
“ Do you love it so much that you’d give me a kiss to thank me? ” Again, he’s kind of joking when he says this, but really he just wants to kiss Izuku. He always wants to kiss Izuku, but right now he really wants to.
The boy next to him scuffs out a startled laugh, cheeks splotching pink. He doesn’t say anything though, instead tiptoes and kisses Shoto until his feet get tired of staying in the position.
Shoto would’ve suggested holding Izuku up by his waist so that they could continue kissing but 1) they were in public and 2) they were going to miss the sunset at this rate. So with one final, lingering peck, Shoto lets their kissing subside.
“ I want to show you something cool I found searching up this place, ” Shoto says, intertwining his fingers with Izuku’s as he weaves them through the crowds of people.
Izuku lets him, he doesn’t even ask where they’re going. Shoto thinks it’s because of what he said at his house. Izuku was considerate like that.
Shoto takes them to the west side of the property where they had the perfect view of Los Angeles and, more importantly, the sunset.
Izuku gasps in awe next to him. Shoto’s eyes leave the pretty mixture of orange and red tinging the sky in favor of looking at his boyfriend. Best decision he’s ever made, he thinks.
The sun, or what was left of it, shone so brilliantly, so beautifully on Izuku’s skin, his face, his hands. Izuku was prettier than any sunset Shoto had ever seen. His eyes are shining like real emeralds, and his tanned skin is practically glowing .
Shoto loves him. He’s so overwhelmingly in love that he impulsively, or maybe not depending on how you think about it, wraps his arms around Izuku’s waist, nuzzling his face into the crook of the boy’s neck.
Izuku predictably becomes flustered, but he tries his best to not make it obvious. Shoto thinks the attempt to act nonchalant is adorable so he doesn’t mention it.
Izuku melts into him, shoulders sagging back to their original position, head resting on Shoto’s shoulder. His hands somehow end up on top of Shoto’s, lacing their fingers together as if they couldn’t be more intimate.
The two toned boy, as impulsive as he is, quickly, maybe even unnoticeably, pecks the neck he’s nuzzled into. Izuku’s skin is so soft, and then it turns hot with the amount of blood rushing up to his cheeks. He noticed, he felt it.
“ Th-The sunset’s really pretty. Are you looking? ” Izuku asks, his voice is trembling just the tiniest bit for Shoto to catch.
He binds his arms tighter around Izuku’s skin waist, making the boy stumble back a step. “ I’m looking, ” Shoto whispers, eyes counting the many freckles his boyfriend had. He found some new ones now that he was close enough to see.
Izuku must feel his eyes on him because he looks to the side to meet his gaze. “ Not at me, you weirdo. ” He giggles nervously, his eyes flicking back to the, now dark, sky.
“ You’re prettier than the sunset. ” Shoto says, voicing his thoughts from earlier.
Izuku lets go of his hands, covering his face with his own. He’s flustered again. How many times has he blushed today?
Shoto presses one more kiss on Izuku’s cheek, letting it linger, he makes it count , before unraveling his arms from the boy’s waist. The sunset was gone, but the view was still breathtaking. Izuku looked beautiful in the moonlight too, how utterly unfair .
After they appreciate the view some more, they make their way inside the actual museum which is filled with things that correlate to the universe they live in. Izuku was enthralled with everything , pausing at every single exhibit. Shoto snaps pictures of him when he’s not looking.
“ You enjoyed yourself, right? ” He asks once they finish looking at every exhibit twice.
Izuku nods his head rapidly, the grip he has on Shoto’s hand tightens in his excitement. “ Of course I did! What about you? I didn’t annoy you with my constant talking did I? I tend to do that when I’m excited. ”
He’s still blabbering, Shoto thinks it’s cute that he hasn’t noticed it himself. “ You could never annoy me, I love listening to you talk. ”
Izuku chuckles nervously, complimenting it with another squeeze to his hand. “ Thank you for bringing me here. ” He says, his voice soft.
Shoto’s heart palpitates. He loves him. So much. “ I’m glad you liked it. ” He replies, his cheeks warming.
They’re walking towards the stretch of grass that leads away from the museum, that’s where their uber would pick them up in twenty minutes. Their day would end, and suddenly Shoto’s life wouldn’t seem so magical.
He should end this night with a bang, he decides.
He stops them at a bench, and Izuku looks at him, confused. Shoto grins cheekily, pulling his phone out of his back pocket and searches up a specific song.
When he finds the song, it plays out loud, and Shoto turns the volume up all the way, placing the phone on the bench next to them.
Izuku’s still staring at him, only he’s smiling at him like he’s crazy, and maybe he is for doing this, but he’s going to do it anyway.
He outstretched a hand, sending his boyfriend a lopsided smile. “ Dance with me, ”
Izuku’s eyes widen the tiniest bit, but he doesn’t hesitate in grabbing Shoto’s hand, not at all.
Shoto pulls him in close, his hands instinctively placing themselves on his hips, Izuku’s arms are around his shoulders. They move back and forth, and a sense of déjà vu rushes over him. They’ve done this before.
“ What are you doing? ” Izuku giggles over the music.
Shoto leans down and kisses him. He can’t help it. He loves kissing Izuku. He would do it all day if he could. “ Dancing with my boyfriend, ”
Izuku giggles louder at this. He looks so beautiful. In the sunlight, in the moonlight. When he’s smiling, when he’s not. When he’s asleep on Shoto’s shoulder, when he’s awake and talking non-stop. He never fails to look effortlessly beautiful .
“ Do I make you happy? ” Shoto asks suddenly.
Izuku looks surprised at the question, but he doesn’t mention it. “ You make me the happiest , ” He replies, softly. He was so earnest. Everything about Izuku was so pure .
Shoto swallows, his mouth suddenly dry. “ You make me happy, too. And I think, happiness correlates strongly with love . Don’t you think? ”
The music stops playing. Neither one of them bother to turn it back on.
Izuku nods silently, his eyes are wide. But when aren’t they? So wide and expressive.
“ You make me happy, and I make you happy. And, you being happy makes me feel happy. I love when you’re happy. I love you. ” Shoto chokes out, his throat desperately closing in on itself.
Izuku smiles softly, and brings up a hand to wipe at Shoto’s cheek.
Oh, he’s crying.
“ When I first got here, Izuku, I didn’t think I would ever learn to be truly happy. I want you to know that y-you were the one that showed me. You showed me how to be happy. ” He continues, voice trembling and cracking in random places, and now that he’s aware that he’s crying, he lets the tears freely fall down his face.
Izuku looks like he wants to cry, his eyes are shinier than usual. They’re so sparkly, it makes Shoto cry harder, funny enough.
“ Y-You make me so happy , Izuku. ”
The boy pulls him in for a bone crushing hug, wrapping his arms fully around Shoto’s neck, standing on his tiptoes to be able to reach. Shoto’s arms wrap around Izuku’s waist, sniffling into the air as he rests his chin on top of his boyfriend's head. He’s crying now. Shoto can feel a familiar dampness on his shoulder. He also hears a sniffle, which is telling enough.
The music starts up again.
“ You make me so happy too, Shoto, ” Izuku whispers wetly into his ear. “ I’m so happy I met you, ”
Shoto chokes on a sob.
He looks up at the sky, looking at the moon, the barely visible stars. He thanks whatever higher power has given him something so precious.
Someone that makes him feel complete. Happy.
Shoto is happy.
