Chapter Text
Jungkook turns off the shower and the stream of hot water comes to a gradual halt. When the cold bathroom air envelops him, he has half a mind to step back into the warm cabin. It is Saturday after all, no one would blame him.
He doesn’t bother to blowdry his hair nor does he put on a shirt. His skin is still sensitive from the hot water and showergel. The cotton material would only chafe and itch, so with only a pair of sweatpants hanging low on his hips and his hair still dripping, he leaves the bathroom in search of something warm.
Warm, like the embrace of his boyfriend.
“Jimin?” he calls upon not finding him tangled in the sheets. Brie is nowhere to be found either. Normally he hears the pitter patter of her paws everywhere around their appartment.
“Kitchen!” the other responds, his voice not that distant in the small space. “Making breakfast!”
Jungkook shuts the bedroom door and finds himself in the living room within three steps. Jimin has his back turned towards him and seems to be holding a pan while Brie sits perfectly still next to him, her snout turned up in the air.
Jimin has probably noticed him, either by his footsteps or his scent, but Jungkook still tries to sneak up on him. The temptation when Jimin is turned away is just too big.
Brie looks at him and her tail starts wagging excitedly. Jungkook presses his finger to his mouth as if she would understand that means she has to be quiet or she will ruin his sneak attack.
One more step and then Jungkook gently snakes his arms around Jimin’s waist, pressing his chest flush to Jimin’s clothed back. “Good morning,” he mutters, pressing a peck to his cheek.
“Good morning,” Jimin says without sounding even the slightest bit startled. “Enjoyed your shower?”
“I did. What’re you making? Pancakes?”
Jimin hums. “Yes, I was craving some! And our Jungkookie deserves a little treat for so bravely tackling our suspect, doesn’t he?”
“I think he does,” Jungkook mutters, pressing another peck to his cheek before moving away to leave Jimin to his cooking. “Do you need help?”
“Set the table please?”
Jungkook immediately does as asked. He wants to make it a little more special now that Jimin is putting effort into baking pancakes. He takes out the floral placemats Jimin had bought on a whim and places the only two plates that aren’t made of plastic on top of them. Figuring that Jimin would like some tea to start his day, he turns on the kettle and grabs Jimin’s favourite mug from the cupboard. It has a little, happy cat face drawn on with small ears opposite of each other on the rim.
“We’ll get a mug of you next, baby,” he tells Brie, who is still focused on the food. “We don’t even have a cat. Why don’t we have a spaniel mug?”
“Dunno. Buy one to add to our collection,” Jimin says while he slides another finished pancake from the pan onto the growing pile. “She already had breakfast by the way. She’s just acting like we never feed her.”
Jungkook chuckles softly. “Like always. What do you want on your pancakes?”
“Just grab whatever’s sweet. There’s some fruit left as well. Banana always goes well with pancakes!”
It takes a few more minutes before they finally have everything set up. Jungkook had to dig in the depths of their cupboards to look for syrup because Jimin was stubborn about having bought some when they first moved here. It’s clear their fridge wasn’t very prepared for pancakes. An half-empty pot of nutella, syrup, two bananas and strawberries are all they have to top their pancakes with, but both Jimin and Jungkook are ecstatic.
Jungkook drums his hands on the table while Jimin presents the plate with a large stack of pancakes balanced on it. While humming the bridal march, he walks to the table and places the plate in the middle. “Ta da!”
“You are amazing,” Jungkook says, mouth watering as the scent fills his nose. “Come sit and dig in!”
“No no. Watch this,” Jimin says, “Brie! Come here, girl!”
Jimin turns back to the kitchen with Brie excitedly twirling around him, her tail wagging in every direction. “Who’s my pretty girl?” Jimin coos in a high voice. “Are you gonna be good and sit? Sit, Brie!”
As thrilled as she is, Brie was trained well before Jimin and Jungkook even adopted her, so she sits and waits patiently with her tail still rapidly sweeping over the floor.
“Good girl! You’re perfect,” Jimin tells her with a wide smile and only now does Jungkook notice Jimin is holding a tiny pancake between his fingers. Butterflies flutter inside Jungkook’s stomach and warmth feels his chest. One would think those feelings fade after months.
Brie gently takes the pancake between her teeth and struts to her cushion while Jimin takes a seat across Jungkook. “I made a small one just for her with the left-over batter.”
“You’re so cute. I’m sure she appreciates it,” Jungkook says, “May I also dig in?”
“Of course! You didn’t have to wait. First one is for you. Take it.”
“Are you sure?”
Jimin doesn’t answer. Instead, he takes the pancake on top of the stack and promptly plonks it down on Jungkook’s plate. “Golden pancake for the golden detective. Eat or feel my wrath.”
Jungkook can only chuckle without minding Jimin’s caring attitude. He reaches for the syrup and pours a generous amount of the surface of his pancake and slathers it until there is more syrup than pancake on his plate. As he picks up his cutlery to cut the pancake, he notices that Jimin’s plate is still empty. “Aren’t you eating?”
“I’m waiting for your reaction,” Jimin says, “That’s a lot of syrup.”
“Go big or go home.” With that, Jungkook tears a piece off with his fork and lifts it to his mouth, golden syrup dripping down onto the portion left on his plate. Sweetness envelops his tastebuds completely and he can only moan in enjoyment. He chews slowly, savouring the sugar as it melts on his tongue. “Now that’s a good pancake.”
Jimin grins, glowing. “Really? Let me try for myself.” He takes the syrup and pours an equally generous amount over his own pancake, effectively drowning it.
With morning hunger and the food tasting incredibly good, both are too occupied with enjoying their breakfast before it gets cold to bother talking a lot. Jungkook doesn’t think he has ever had pancakes for breakfast before and he does not want to waste a second of savouring the experience. He can tell Jimin about his crazy rollercoaster dream later, maybe while washing the dishes or walking the dog.
“I visted Eunjoo’s flower shop the other day,” Jimin says between bites of his third pancake.
“Really?” Jungkook raises an eyebrow. “How is she? Business good?”
Jimin nods, a gently smile faint on his lips. “Yeah, she’s doing really great. Her son took over ex-mate’s company, but they’ve been working separately.”
“That fantastic to hear.”
“Yeah.” Jimin doesn’t lift his knife again to cut off another piece. “Er- she also asked if we’re mated yet.”
Jungkook almost chokes and he isn’t even chewing on anything. “What?”
“Yeah. I said no because, well, we aren’t. But it got me thinking. Would you want to? Not now, but in the future?”
“I- I’ve thought about it.” Dreamed about it, fantasised about it, equally while asleep as being awake. Even more so now that they’ve moved in together. “But I mean I- I would love to, eventually. I can’t imagine my forever with anyone but you, but like, we’ve only been together for a year? And I would understand if you didn’t want to. I’d never want to reduce-”
“Jungkook,” Jimin interrupts, smiling. “I was thinking the exact same thing. Somewhere in the future, I would love to. We are part of each other’s happiness now, always been, and I always want to be. But you’re right, we’ve only been together for a year. We should probably talk about it more when we feel more secure in that aspect.”
Jungkook is left slightly dumbfounded. He has always assumed the concept of mating would be a hard and solid no from Jimin and Jungkook would understand, has already accepted it. “Maybe a year from now it would be more plausible. But, but I’m really happy you like the thought. Ah- I’m not good with words.”
He tilts his head to a side, frustrated, but Jimin smiles and shakes his head. “You don’t need to use words, Jungkookie. You know I love you, right?”
“I know. I love you too.” Saying so sometimes still feels unreal, with butterflies erupting as if he’s hearing and saying the words for the first time. “Shall I do the dishes? Considering you cooked?”
“”Hmm, sure. But first-” Jimin stands up and pushes his chair back with his legs.
Jungkook is a bit confused by what he’s doing and waits. When Jimin positions himself on his lap, he can’t complain. He rests his hands on Jimin’s hips as if by instinct and looks up at him with a curious smile playing on his lips.
Their lips melt together in an act of simple and familiar affection. Jungkook never has his fill when it comes to kissing Jimin. His lips are soft and plump, sweet and perfect. Jimin’s hands cup his cheeks, keeping him in place. Not like Jungkook would even want to go anywhere.
Jungkook tightens his hold on Jimin’s waist and gently nips at his bottom lip before licking into his mouth, which earns him a soft moan. He would grin if he could, but he has more important matters to attend to than being smug. Like his boyfriend on his lap, eager and smelling delectable. They easily get caught up in each other like they always do and it quickly becomes impossible to tear away. Intimacy doesn't have to be sexual and Jungkook is content just to sit here, kissing each other until their breath runs out.
Unfortunately, not every member of the household agrees with Jungkook's plans to worship Jimin as he should be worshipped. Brie suddenly starts barking and scratching on the front door with her leash between her teeth. Another low whine solidifies her point, she's been inside for long enough.
Jungkook chuckles and presses a last peck to Jimin’s lips. “We’ve forgotten our daughter’s needs. Gonna join me? The dishes can wait.”
“One more kiss?”
With those pleading puppy eyes and a pout to match, Jungkook really can't deny him. “Anything for you.”
