Chapter Text
“You’ll never believe who I caught necking in the common room.”
The text went out at 12:08 am. It was late, but several other teachers were on duty in other dorms. Midnight was first to respond, a saucy wink emoji and inquiry of “who?” Thirteen sent the moon face emoji and a question mark. A few others responded in interest as well.
The UA teachers, though they would never admit it, were terrible gossips. Between Hero work, teaching, and their recently increased hours, it was hard to find time to have social lives of their own. They mostly interacted among themselves. The students were a hot topic of discussion, ranging from their training successes to their young love lives.
Aizawa rolled his eyes at the quick response to the newest student couple rumor. He felt like dangling the carrot a bit, “Really. Guess.”
Plenty of viable guesses came rolling in. Ashido and Kirishima, Momo and Jiro, Uraraka and Midoriya were common predictions. Aizawa smiled knowing that the truth was going to be surprising to them all.
“Midoriya and Bakugo.”
The chat exploded in uproar, messages being spammed faster than Aizawa could keep up with. Many more teachers were watching the chat than had replied to his first two texts.
Hizashi said he was full of shit. Midnight claimed she had seen it coming for months. Nezu spammed the eyes emoji. Recovery Girl said to leave the poor young boys out of their rumor mill.
Aizawa wasn’t usually one to partake in the gossip, mostly ignoring the chat in the teacher’s lounge. But he figured he should let the others know about this so they could keep an eye on the two, for a while at least.
“Not a rumor. I caught Midoriya on Bakugo’s lap. I had to follow the safe sex protocols.”
And if the chat wasn’t blowing up before it certainly was after Aizawa dropped that tidbit. None of them had had the unpleasant experience of catching two students in such a compromising situation yet. Many were asking for details of how he handled it.
“It went fine. I think they understood, but keep an eye out. Bakugo took the condoms with him.” Aizawa added in a second text after a moment, “I’ve never seen Midoriya so red. @AllMight your favorite’s a scoundrel.”
Toshinori took his sleep seriously. Being the Number One Hero meant he needed his 8 hours every night! So when his phone started nonstop going off 3 hours into his REM cycle he assumed it was a dire emergency. He sat up quickly, fumbling for the lamp on his nightstand and switched it on, momentarily blinding him with dim yellow. Grabbing his phone off the charger he saw the lock screen was getting filled with green chat boxes faster than he could read. The situation must have been serious.
As quickly as he could, while also standing and grabbing his costume, he scrolled up in the chat. He realized while fumbling to get his socks on that he was seeing a lot of emojis and, was that Midoriya’s name he saw? What had his successor gotten himself into this time? He paused his scrolling.
Oh. Jesus.
Toshinori sat back down on the edge of his bed, costume bottom halfway up his legs, eyebrows raised. He knew the other teachers liked to talk, but it was certainly more awkward for him when it was about the kid he’s mentoring’s love life. His sex life.
With Bakugo?
Toshinori slammed his phone down next to him, face feeling hot. He did not need to know this information. Whatever young Midoriya did in his free time was his business. Still, the parental instincts he’d developed kicked in and he couldn’t help but be worried for his safety. Was he getting pressured into it? He thought the two boys were still at ends with each other. Were they at least being safe? Why had he not felt comfortable enough to confide in him?
Sighing, he reopened his phone and continued to scroll through the backlog of messages. Aizawa had spoken to them, that was good. Bakugo with a baggie of condoms was like handing a toddler a knife in his eyes, but he knew Aizawa had no choice. At least he knew they had protection, if they were doing the deed.
He really didn’t want to ever know this much, though. And he had dorm duty in Heights Alliance Tuesday-Thursday, so he’d be spending plenty of time with them. What a nightmare. He replied with two blank face emojis and went back the fuck to sleep.
The rest of the weekend passed without incident, Midoriya and Bakugo avoiding the subject and Aizawa. They both went home Saturday morning and returned to the dorms Sunday evening. Midnight had taken Aizawa’s place by that time, his shift over.
“Midnight Sensei is acting strange.” Midoriya whispered to his boyfriend, “She’s been watching us.” The two were once again in the common room, this time quietly studying at a table in the corner. Midoriya was already in his pajama pants and a baggy t-shirt, curfew only an hour away.
Bakugo scoffed. “You’re being paranoid. Midnight’s watching all of us.” She was currently helping some of the others with their homework, seemingly captivated with the task at hand. But Midoriya was unconvinced, keeping his head towards Bakugo but his eyes trained on Midnight. If his calculations were correct, she’d look over at them in about 10 seconds.
Midnight’s head turned. Shit. He averted his eyes.
“No, seriously, watch.” Bakugo let out a confused “Hah?” Thinking the conversation had been dropped moments earlier.
“Every twenty seconds. She stops talking to the others and looks at us, it’s clockwork. Count.”
Bakugo rolled his eyes. Of course Deku would come up with some grand conspiracy out of anxiety. When he got back earlier, the first thing Deku did was grab him, pull him out of sight of their classmates, and cry about what had happened. He was still embarrassed.
Bakugo held him to his chest tightly and reassured him that everything was fine. Aizawa wasn’t mad, they weren’t in any real trouble, and on the bright side they’d gotten a nice little baggy of condoms out of the whole ordeal. Then he kissed the blush off Deku’s face.
Still, Bakugo humored him, turning his head to the old bat. “Don’t look!” Midoriya whispered, “Just with your eyes so she doesn’t see us looking.” Bakugo groaned but complied.
20 seconds passed and she looked.
“That’s a fucking coincidence.” Bakugo said, looking back at Midoriya.
“She’s done it at least four times now.” Midoriya explained, “I think Aizawa told the other teachers.”
If the experience of getting caught (and essentially outed) wasn’t mortifying enough already, this made it twenty times worse.
“Don’t spiral, please, it’s going to be okay.” Bakugo pleaded, seeing the tears begin to well up in Midoriya’s eyes again. He reached out to take his hand into his own. At the same moment Midnight looked over and a knowing smile spread across her face.
The loud scrape of Midoriya’s chair against the floor rang through the room. Without exchanging any words to Bakugo he nearly sprinted for the stairs, head facing down and away so no one would see his distraught. Bakugo stood, quickly following after him, Midnight’s stupid smirk be damned.
“Deku, it’s okay. Fuck, slow down.” He called after him in the stairwell, loud door slamming behind him. Midoriya was going up as fast as he could, wanting to retreat to his room and never come out. “They’re our teachers, it’s not all that surprising they were told.”
Midoriya stopped halfway up the second set and looked back at him, panic and fear etched into his features.
Bakugo felt bad about it, and it wasn’t something he would tell Midoriya until years down the line, but he thought he looked pretty with tears in his eyes. His cheeks were so red, making the constellations of his freckles stand out even more. He was puffy but his eyelashes held onto thick droplets of his tears, darker than normal. Bakugo wanted to kiss them away.
He reached out for Midoriya to do just that, but Midoriya pulled away. “What if All Might’s angry?” Came his wobbly voice, unabashedly vulnerable. Bakugo’s heart squeezed and knitted his eyebrows. He didn’t know how to deal with this. Still, he’d try, for Deku.
“He won’t be angry. I promise.” Bakugo took another small step, “Shit, if anything he might come for my head. We all know you’re his favorite.”
“What if- what if he doesn’t...what if he’s not okay with me being gay?” Midoriya was having a bad case of the worst case scenarios. Katsuki needed to pull him out of it, fast.
“He’s not gonna judge you. He’s gonna be all,” he puts on his best All Might voice, “Young Midoriya! Knowing and being true to yourself is a true sign of a Hero!”
“Kacchan..” Deku smiled, just a little bit.
“Is that a smile I see?” Bakugo teased, taking another step. “Can I hold you now?”
Midoriya nodded and opened his arms for him. Bakugo slotted himself in perfectly and weaved his arms around him, a well practiced move. He pressed Midoriya against the wall, his tailbone pushed into the handrail uncomfortably. Midoriya didn’t care, though, as Bakugo started peppering kisses over his forehead, his temples, the corners of his eyes, taking the salty tears away. Quiet giggles echoed through the stairwell until Bakugo captured his lips and held him tight. He kissed him deeply, trying to convey all his adoration in one action. It was an impossible task.
The sound of the heavy door opening below them broke up their moment, Bakugo backing up to stand opposite Midoriya instead. Midnight rounded the corner and looked up at them. She was in her civilians rather than her costume, something they didn’t often get to see. Somehow it made her both less and more intimidating, like she was a mom here to scold them.
That’s not what happened, though, as she let out a coo and said “You two are just too cute.”
Midoriya blushed but no tears came this time. At least she didn’t see them kissing like Aizawa had.
She smiled at the two of them, “I apologize if I made you uncomfortable.” She kept a fair distance, staying at the landing below them.
“Yeah, well, you did. Mind your own business.” Katsuki realized just how angry he was once the concern over Deku wore off. They weren’t a fucking spectacle to be ogled over.
“Unfortunately I have to keep a close eye on you both. You understand,” she explained, “But I don’t mean to invade your privacy, either. You deserve some amount of autonomy.”
Midoriya smiled. For all of Midnight’s grandstanding, she could be very understanding when she wanted to. “We understand. Sorry for any...inconvenience.” He said, scratching the back of his neck.
“Let me know if you need more condoms.” She chirped, right back to her usual showboat self, and turned to leave.
Bakugo rolled his eyes once she was gone. “This is fucking annoying. We’ve got the peanut gallery making sure we keep it PG.” Not that he had any intention of letting things get more explicit, but he didn’t like being surveilled.
Midoriya shrugged. The typhoon in his throat from earlier had calmed down, both Bakugo and Midnight’s words actually making him feel much better about the situation.
“That’s ok. Can we go back to studying?” Midoriya asked. Katsuki gave him one last kiss on his forehead, “Yeah, nerd.”
