Chapter Text
April 10th, 202X
It was 7:00 AM in the Shinazugawa apartment. Genya, the youngest, had just left his room wearing his most prized pajamas- a green pajama set with watermelons all over them. Meanwhile, Sanemi had noticed his little brother walk out of his room.
“Morning.” was all the older boy replied to show his younger that he saw him.
“Hm? Oh, good morning ‘Nemi.” It was a childhood nickname, honestly. When Genya was learning how to talk, he couldn’t pronounce his full name, much to Sanemi’s annoyance back then. Now, he couldn’t give less of a shit as long as he didn’t use it at school. He didn’t want Genya to say it at school, not because of a “reputation” but because he would need to have a perfect grade in math, which he has never had.
At the table, Sanemi was eating his breakfast while going over his lesson plan for the first month of school. At the new school, he was assigned to, Kimetsu Gakuen, he would be teaching first-year math classes, one of them being Genya’s. Sanemi, while enjoyed teaching math, hated the constant moving of schools every three years (well, that and how stupid the students he got were). They weren’t even fully moved in yet and he was already budgeting for their next apartment. Even though it had some stressful parts, he actually really liked his job. Being able to teach kids the wonderful world of math is a dream that he is living every school day, too bad kids have the mindset ‘The work is hard so I hate this subject and gonna fail anyways’ and it is the reason why he can be… hostile towards his students. The last school, he was nicknamed ‘The Demon Teacher’ and whenever he heard it he got really mad, madder than what a normal teacher would react to a nickname like that. It boiled his blood and he didn’t understand, it was just a trivial nickname made by some stupid students, right?
After a while and Genya was fully dressed and started to create a bowl of cereal, Sanemi stood up to put his bowls with some leftover rice and tiny bits of miso soup in the sink to make Genya clean later after school, and went to grab his folders and the attire to walk out the house with.
Genya looked up from his spoonful of whatever sugar-filled cereal he poured that morning and whined to his brother. “We’re not leaving now, right? I just got breakfast ready and the teacher meeting isn’t until 8:30, it’s 7:50 now.”
“Well, unlucky for you, the principal wants the teachers to be there by 8:00 and it’s a 5-minute walk. Now, get your shit and walk out that door in 2 minutes or I will make you late to class.” replied the elder, putting on a light jacket and fixing his watch. Genya groaned while getting up, shoving half the bowl of cereal into his mouth and putting the bowl on the counter, opting to finish it when he got back from school when it was soggy and nowhere near as good as when it was first made.
“I hate you, you know that Nemi?” The two brothers were walking to the school side-by-side, Genya sometimes sidestepping to let someone walking their dog to go by.
“If you hated me, then you would be living with mom right now, but you aren’t so, I think you actually don’t hate me.” This was their usual banter, one of them throwing out a comment, typically in the vein of ‘you’re the worst’ and the other essentially “pulling out a UNO reverse card”, as Genya put it (His sense of humor has gotten weirder since he came back from his one year study over in America, Sanemi noted).
For once, the two were gonna be in the same building for three years, so transportation was not much of a problem, especially with Genya being in high school, Sanemi feels better with him traveling alone to school. It’s a simple walk, only five minutes really, so they were there in no time, especially with their active conversations alongside the trip.
The boys have a very interesting relationship. When they were younger, Sanemi was 5 and Genya was a newborn, they got along great, it wasn’t until Sanemi was 15 and Genya 10-years-old did their relationship start to falter. Sanemi dropped out of high school to get a “job”(he ended up in a pretty dangerous job) to help out their mother, which unknowingly to Sanemi, stressed her out more than it was helpful. The pressure was so much for their mother that her health was affected, and was hospitalized for a long time. Sanemi had to take over as the parent and raised all his younger siblings, but Genya rejected anything Sanemi did for him, always blaming him for their mother being in the hospital. Sanemi was hurt by his comments, and it tore the two siblings even more apart. Once their mother was in a position to work again, Sanemi left to go get his high school diploma and went to get a teaching degree, which he had done by the age of 17. He started as a student teacher, and by the time he was finally an official teacher at 18 years old, Genya decided to move in with his older brother. It was awkward at first, the boys obviously were both stubborn and waited for the first to apologize, but after many heart-to-heart conversations, the two had started to mend their relationship.
Arriving at the school, Sanemi used his teacher’s ID to open the doors and stopped in front of his, noticeably taller brother. “You can go find where your classroom is, I don’t give a fuck just don’t cause trouble, or I will-”
“-Beat my ass, yeah, yeah you told me this last night during your hour lecture about high school.”
“Hey, don’t use that tone or I will fail you on purpose and you are already shit at math.”
Genya nodded his head and turned to walk to where the opening ceremony would be held, leaving Sanemi to go to where the teachers would be. The white-haired teacher shook his head at his younger brother and started to head to the number he was given in an email.
It was a short walk, and on the way there he bumped into someone he has never seen before. He was wearing a blue gym uniform and had long, pointy, raven hair in a ponytail. Like a durian. The male had continued walking and it pissed off Sanemi.
“Hey, aren’t you going to say something, you durian-haired bitch!” The lighter haired male yelled. The other man in the hallway turned around to look at Sanemi and simply continued walking. Sanemi was, even more, pissed off at the male. He wanted to run over and punch him, but he needed to control his anger, he was at school and that was inappropriate behavior for him. Maybe outside of school.
Sanemi turned back to go to the room he was called to be there and opened the door, to be met with multiple teachers’ and the principal’s eyes to be met with his violet ones. Another male with white hair like Sanemi’s was the first one to make a movement. He got up and walked over to the new teacher, put his arm around his shoulder, and brought him in for a close hug. “Oho oho, what do we have here? The other new teacher? Ah, how flamboyant!”
This was gonna be a long three years.
