Hi everyone!
I’m really sorry for anyone I might have accidentally fooled into thinking that there’s an update, but I wanted to talk to all of you and this seemed like the most effective way.
As I’m sure all of you know, I haven’t updated this fic in a very long time. This isn’t because I’ve lost interest in it- I love this universe very much. The problem is, try as I might, I can’t come up with a good, fitting long-term plot for the rest of this story. Anything I would create would make Order Up either a) much longer than I ever wanted it to be, or b) much more angsty and depressing than I intended (think major character death).
When I first wrote Café Mercenaire, I didn’t expect it to blow up nearly as much as it did (I didn’t think anyone would read it, honestly) and I had no plans for a sequel until people started asking for one. I decided to do it of my own accord, but I think somewhere along the line the worry and pressure of making Order Up bigger and better than Café made it too stressful to be fun to work on and made no idea feel good enough.
I believe that, at its heart, this series is meant to be silly and entertaining, and any sort of complex plot I would add to it would likely change the story beyond recognition. So, if it’s alright with all of you, I’d like to make Order Up less of a full, cohesive story and more a series of oneshots and short arcs. The change should let me get updates out more frequently because there will be much less planning and worrying involved. I hope that isn’t disappointing to anyone.
In terms of future updates: I’m not officially taking requests, but if you have something you’d like to see, I’m very much open to suggestions!! I have a lot to do this month so I don’t know how much I’ll be able to work on this, but I’d love to hear your thoughts!
