To Be on a Date
Chapter 3
“He went there.” Said Geto sighing. “That idiot really went there.”
“And what did you expect, Geto?” Shoko asked, while watching the scene unfold a few tables away. “That Gojo of all people would stay still while idiot number 2 hits on (f/n)? I don’t think so.
“Well, he did great at the exhibition.” Commented Suguru.
“He wanted to kill that guy.” Said the brunette pointing at the guy who was sitting facing (f/n).
“He wanted to.”
“He still wants to.”
“...deep down you're having fun, aren't you, Shoko?”
“Of course! Have you ever seen Gojo jealous of anyone, other than his own reflection?”
Geto pondered his friend's question for a few seconds. Shoko was right, his best friend had been in some relationships (none lasted more than a month), and in a lot of dates, but he never saw Satoru displaying any sign of jealousy or anything similar.
But apparently, there was a first time for everything.
The only ‘however’ of that whole story, was that (f/n) and Satoru were not in a relationship, and Geto was almost certain that neither of them had noticed how some things had changed between them after the last special grade mission that (f/n) was assigned two weeks ago.
"Idiots…" Murmured the dark haired boy.
“Then we have 3 idiots."
Suguru and Shoko turned to face the newcomer, who was putting two trays of sweets and drinks on the table.
"There's the idiot who's hitting on (l/n), the idiot who should start acting more like a senpai and less like a stalker, and an idiot who still doesn't get that things are changing.”
“Nanami...you knew that we were...?” Geto trailed off, a little embarrassed for being caught.
“Following us? Of course. And it's not like you tried very hard to prevent your cursed energy from leaking.” Replied the blonde guy sitting in Gojo's chair. “Besides, Gojo-san is there at my table.”
“Ah…” Ieiri and Geto said at the same time. They got forgotten about that.
“I'm sorry, we didn't want to disturb your date.”
“Date? What are you talking about?” Nanami inquired. “And I also brought your orders. I asked Yuna-san to place yours with mine.”
“Are you staying here?” Asked Ieiri.
“I refuse to go there right now.” Said Nanami. “Too much drama.”
Suguru and Shoko could only agree.
“And what did you mean by ‘date’, Geto-san?”
“Hum...? You and (f/n) are on a date, right?” Shoko asked.
And then the blonde sighed. Probably Gojo had got it all wrong, so he had decided to follow them instead of just showing up and taking a walk with them.
“Haibara should be with us, but he is sick.” He informed. “Those two wanted to visit this café, and convinced me to tag along. It was supposed to be a 'class trip thing'. We just came together because Haibara asked us to buy him cakes from this store."
“So…” Said Geto, eyes getting wide.
"You got it wrong." Completed Kento.
Satoru had been wrong.
…
Yoshida Iori knew what fear was. He fears falling from somewhere high, he fears being bitten by a snake while hiking with his friends, and even fears being arrested for graffiti on a wall. But now, facing the stranger who was hugging the girl that he was hitting on, he was not afraid. He was terrified. Something about that strangely white-haired guy was screaming how dangerous he could be.
“Who do you think you are?”
And that single sentence promised a lot of pain if he didn't walk away, but his stupid pride wouldn't allow him to leave that table without (l/n) (f/n)'s phone number.
“Yoshida Iori. Nice to meet you.” He said, extending his hand.
“Gojo Satoru, and I can't say the same thing to you. What do you want with her?”
“Satoru, that's none of your business.” Scolded (f/n). “Besides, what are you doing here?”
“...enjoying my day off…” Gojo replied, propping his chin on the girl's head.
“Right.” Said the girl rolling her eyes. “Now care to let go? I'm kind of busy here.”
“Yeah, we're a little busy here man. You know, I'm almost getting her number~." Iori hummed in an attempt to disguise his nervousness, while he lowered the hand that had been ignored by the other guy.
“What?!” Said both sorcerers.
“You asked her what ?! Exclaimed Gojo frowning.
“Who said I'm going to give you my number?!” Retorted (f/n). She just wanted Yoshida Iori to leave so she could eat the sweets from this café! Was she asking too much? “And Satoru! Let go of me already! Don't you have to go back to your table with Suguru-senpai and Shoko-senpai?”
“No.” Gojo replied dryly, his hug tightening, which made (f/n) let out a long sigh. Where the hell was Nanami?
"You heard the girl." Said Iori.
"And you could follow your own advice." Retorted Satoru.
“(F/n)-chan didn't say that I'm not welcome.”
“Well, she didn't say that you were welcome either.”
And suddenly, (f/n)'s last thread of patience snapped. She was tired of the situation, and that child-like argument between Satoru and Iori was driving her crazy.
Screw you courtesy!
“Yoshida-san.” Said the girl, drawing the attention of the boys who were still bickering. “Leave the table. Now.”
“Eh...? (F/n)-chan?”
“I'm asking you to leave the table, Yoshida-san.” She repeated, the boy had finally realized that something was wrong.
“What if...I say I'll leave as soon as I get your number...?”
She clenched her teeth, and a vein of irritation popped up on her forehead.
That idiot still has the courage to say that with a smile on his face? Just fuck off!
“Is that so? Then, if you don't leave, I will.”
(F/n) got to her feet, surprising Satoru, even so, he continued with his arms around the girl, who at that point didn’t care anymore about the things that Satoru did or didn’t do. Picking up her backpack and cell phone, (l/n) opted to go to the table where she knew her veterans would be sitting, probably just watching the situation unfold.
“W...wait, (f/n)-chan!” Said Yoshida, standing up to hold the girl's wrist, who was ready to walk away.
“Don't touch her.”
Iori didn't know exactly what had happened, his world seemed to have turned around. One second he was close to holding the girl’s wrist, and the next he was stretched out on the floor. What had happened?
Suddenly, the Gojo guy came into his line of sight, now that he was lying on the floor, the white haired boy looked taller and more intimidating than before.
“...if you try to touch her again…” Satoru whispered as he crouched down beside Iori, his sky blue eyes shining dangerously. “...I will kill you.”
“You...you…” Said Iori, shocked by the other boy's words. “...you are her boyfriend...aren't you?”
“...No...just a friend.”
“Then why…”
“Satoru! What are you doing?!” (F/n) exclaimed as soon as she realized that Iori was on the floor and Satoru beside him.
“Ah, just checking if he is okay, right Yoshida-san?” Gojo said calmly. “He tripped at the table’s foot when he tried to get up.”
“Oh my gosh, are you okay sir?” Asked Yuna while approaching her clients. “Did you get hurt?!”
“No...no... I'm fine…” Replied Yoshida, slowly standing up. He was threatened, right? He really felt like Gojo guy would kill him. Okay...he liked his life, so he should just go away now. “I...I'm...going back to my table now, thank you.”
"Take care~." Satoru sang, waving his hand with a victorious smile plastered on his face. Seeing Yoshida running away was gold!
“...what did you do...?” Asked (f/n) arching an eyebrow and crossing her arms in front of her chest.
“Why do you think I did something~?”
“Because you are always messing around."
“Woah, and you’re always hurting my feelings, (f/n).”
“What did you say to him?” She asked again.
“Hum...I gave him your number?”
“You don't have my phone number either, Satoru.”
“We can change that now, can't we?
“No.” Replied (f/n) immediately, returning to her seat.
“Why not?” Gojo asked, taking the place that originally should have been Nanami's.
“Shoko-senpai has already warned me of the absurd amount of messages and calls you make per day. And Suguru-senpai keeps complaining that you call during the night. So, no.”
“Well, what a pity.” He said, showing two cell phones. One was his, and the other hers.
(F/n)'s eyes widened, and she stared at her empty hands. When did Satoru took it?
“Give it back.”
“Just a minute.”
“Satoru!”
“Almost done~.”
“I said to give it back!”
“And done! Here it goes.” He said, handing the cell phone back to its owner.
(L/n) got her cell phone and started fiddling with the device, going straight to her contact list. Satoru's name was there...followed by heart.
“For real? A heart?”
"I know you love me." Said Satoru blatantly.
"I don't think so." Said (f/n) trying to ignore as much as possible the strange sensation that had arisen in her chest.
“I'm your favorite senpai!” He continued.
“Shoko-senpai is definitely the best senpai anyone could ask for.”
“Best friend!”
“That would be Nanami.”
The two stared at each other for a few seconds, and (f/n) couldn’t help but start laughing, it was as if the situation with Yoshida Iori hadn't even happened.
“You are ridiculous!”
“Ridiculous?” Exclaimed Gojo clearly unhappy. “Of all the things you could call me, did you decide to call me ‘ ridiculous ’?! Really?!”
“If you want I can call you a clown.”
“Normally, people would call me 'the strongest of sorcerers', or 'handsome'. You can choose.”
"I call you 'ridiculous'." Said the girl again, typing something on her cell phone.
“What are you doing?”
“Changing your name in my contacts, of course.”
“...that's a surprise.”
“Hmm?”
“I was sure you would delete my contact or block it~.” Satoru hummed, which made (f/n) blush.
“Th...that would be very rude.” Said the girl in her defense.
“And calling me ‘ridiculous’, isn't?”
“No, because I was just stating the obvious. By the way, how's my name in your contacts? Does it have an emoji?”
“Hum…’Love of my life’ and a heart, what do you think?”
“Don't you feel a bit embarrassed saying these kinds of things?” Asked (f/n), her cheeks getting redder and redder.
“Nope. Never~.”
“Again, how's my name in your contacts?”
“My everything?"
“Satoru…”
“Okay! (F/n) and a smiling emoji, happy?”
“Yeah.” Said the girl, putting aside the conversation about cell phone numbers and turning her attention to the table where she could clearly see her other friends. “Now...I need my sweets. Nanami, that traitor has them. I can't believe that he abandoned me!”
And Satoru smiled when he saw the girl go to the table where Nanami, Suguru and Shoko were, to get her well-deserved sweets and promising that she would bring his sweets too, she was sure that he had ordered.
His blue eyes wandered at the screen of the cell phone that showed his contacts, the name of (f/n) now among them. Was it normal to feel so happy to get a phone number? Usually he didn't have to ask the girls for their numbers, they made sure to give them without him even saying a word...
“Can you really eat all these sweets, Satoru?” Asked (f/n) incredulously, while placing a tray on the table.
“Yes…” He replied while putting aside his phone. “...but nothing prevents me from sharing it with you (f/n)~.”
However, for now, Satoru would only enjoy the little date that he had just arranged himself, later he could think about that issue and the strange feelings that were beginning to rise in his chest.
Epilogue
“But I still can't believe you guys spent the day following us!” (F/n) exclaimed, still amazed (in a bad sense) by the stunt that her senpais had set.
The group was returning from the short walk around the city after eating the sweets from Canaria’s store. In the end, the girl had spent the whole time with Satoru, while Nanami had sat down with Geto and Ieiri. Even so, (f/n) wouldn't complain, although Gojo Satoru was extremely cocky when it came to the second world they could see, as a person, he was sociable and funny, it was easy to have a conversation with him.
But...
“Who had this ‘Oh so great idea’?!” Asked the girl facing her veterans. “No, forget it! That question was stupid! Obviously it was Satoru's idea!”
“Ahhhh?! Why me?!
“You are the only one who would think of stalking your kouhais!”
“Well, if I had to take such drastic measures, it's your fault!”
“What?!”
“And Nanami’s!”
"Leave me out of this." Said the blonde, taking the box of cakes from (f/n)'s hand, before she decided to throw Haibara's sweets at the white haired boy.
“Give me a good reason for the fault be ours!”
“If you had invited us from the beginning…”
"Leave me out of this!" Said Suguru and Shoko at the same time, imitating Kento's response.
“...we wouldn't need to follow you!” Finished the boy.
“It was supposed to be a class trip! I can’t believe it…” Said (f/n), facepalming. “How old are you? Five?!”
“If we are talking about mental age, five. Maybe less.” Commented Suguru, holding back a laugh.
“Shut up, Suguru!”
(F/n) sighed. Okay, she was mature enough to let it go, but there was still something bothering her.
“And why did you think I would go on a date with Nanami? He...he is Nanami!”
“Am I supposed to be offended?” Asked the said guy, arching an eyebrow.
“No, no! I consider you my best friend, almost a brother, so it would be weird to go out with you. Just that.”
Kento rolled his eyes, but stroked the girl's head, despite her protests. Deep down, he knew that he saw her as a sister too, just as Haibara was like a younger brother.
“By the way, if I were to go on a date, I would definitely choose to go with someone like…” she pondered a moment, while tidying up her hair. “...Suguru-senpai!”
Silence.
For an instant, everyone stopped walking and turned to stare at the girl. And in the next second, there was only chaos.
Shoko laughed as if there was no tomorrow, while saying between a laugh and another something like 'you are not her type!' or 'take that Gojo'. And Satoru had already started to yell at Suguru for no reason, who in turn responded in the same tone. It was only a matter of time before those two decide to start a fight.
“...Eh…?”
“(L/n), that kind of comment...keep them just for yourself next time.” Suggested Nanami, before starting to walk back towards the school. His mission would only be complete when the sweets from the Canaria’s were in the hands of Haibara Yu.
