Chapter Text
Aizawa likes to consider himself a level headed man who rationally thinks everything out. He likes to think that the only reason he’s lived this long is because he is careful while being risky. It’s an ideal of himself he holds onto tight. While he himself thought it was irrational for four American teenage heroes in training to come study in their school, he couldn’t do anything to change it. All he could do was accept it and make sure they get a well rounded education in their time with them.
That is what he likes to think.
However, standing in front of one of his students, anger boiling inside him, those ideals were losing their grip.
Aizawa would have hoped that his students weren’t so prejudice against quirkless people, no matter that they comply twenty percent of the population in Japan. He would have hoped that they saw him and saw that he fights quirkless most of the time. But no. Those hopes were shattered when he heard one of his star students.
Had he known that Bakugo thought that way, he would have been expelled before classes started. He would have tossed the application during the tests. He should seriously speak to Nedzu on adding certain ethical questions to future entrance exams. Maybe he could see if he can teach an ethics class.
“Are you going to say anything or just stare?” Bakugo grumbles as he looks down at his shoes.
“I clearly said no talking,” Aizawa glares at Bakugo, hearing him grumble under his breath.
“Aizawa, maybe we’re being harsh on the boy,” Toshinori says in a timid voice, “He probably didn’t mean what he said.”
How the hell was he allowed to have a teaching license? They almost failed Aizawa just for saying he would expel students who hold no future in heroics.
“In verbatim, he said that quirkless people should bow down to the quirked,” Aizawa turns his sharp glare to Toshinori, the temperature dropping, “Unless you have a better input, shut up.”
Aizawa turns back to Bakugo, keeping his anger in check. He is the adult here and while he very much wants to scream at him, he can’t. He has to remind himself that Bakugo is still, legally, a child and should not be subjected to yelling under school setting.
“We’re going to Nedzu. We will talk about your punishment,” Aizawa tells him in a calm manner, “But because of the comment, there will also be an investigation into your past. Shut up before I recommend expulsion,” Aizawa glares at Bakugo as he opens his mouth, “But as of now, you will apologize to Kendall and you will stay away from him. You are to not talk to him unless he approaches you. I mean it, Bakugo. You do so and I will personally recommend you get bumped into Gen-Ed. My recommendation to get Mineta expelled was enough for them to agree,” He also had amounting evidence but that’s beside the point.
Bakugo just stares at his teacher in shock at what he said. He would lose everything. Not only his status, but his chance to be a hero. He couldn’t allow this. He hated Kendall now. He was the cause of all this at the moment. Had he just been weak, had he just let himself be flipped then he would have won.
“That’s harsh. Aizawa, they’re going to interact somehow,” Toshinori steps forward, “I think an apology is enough punishment. Why should he get more? Besides, he shouldn’t have been matched up with him in the first place.”
(Bakugo held back a smirk as All Might stood up for him.)
Aizawa stares at Toshinori and a laugh escapes him, covering his mouth. He continues laughing and he laughs loudly that it echos in the locker room. The other two in the room felt uncomfortable at hearing him laugh, especially one that wasn’t because he found the comment funny. Aizawa was clutching his stomach and one hand around his scarf, which now wrapped around Toshinori.
“You’re an idiot!” Aizawa laughs at him, tugging on his scarf, making the skinny man stumble, “You think quirks are everything?! I fight quirkless about seventy-five percent of the time!” He raises his voices, his laughter gone, “There is no excuse for Bakugo’s behavior! It is not that kid’s fault that Bakugo felt weak! That kid needs a reality check that not everything will go his way! The world isn’t black and white! You two need to open yours eyes and see the world is much different than you think!” He shouts at the end, panting and lets go of the retired hero.
Aizawa lets out a deep breath and composes himself. He never let himself have such an outburst in front of students or colleagues, in general. He brushes off his outfit and turns to Bakugo, seeing the young teen trying his best to not shrink back.
“I apologize for my absurd outburst,” Aizawa speaks calmly, “You will sit out the rest of heroics. You are to sit against the wall in the gym and observe and no. Kendall isn’t getting special treatment. His mentor made him sit out as well.”
Aizawa looks at both blonds and walks out of the locker room. He clears his throat and fixes his scarf, walking back to the gym ground and watches his students. The American teens weren’t all that bad. Just a few flaws needing to be fixed. James needed to stop worrying about his face, Logan needed to stop being indecisive, and Carlos...well he’s the one taking it seriously. He had Uraraka pinned down on her front, seeing her tap out quickly.
That’s a surprise.
“Aizawa!” Cementoss walks over after having Uraraka and Carlos take a break and catch their air. “You would be surprised by that one. He and Uraraka have been sparring not stop and they’re tied as of now.”
Aizawa nods and looks at his student and the young boy, seeing them drinking water bottles and laughing. They seemed to have some forming bruises on their arms and possibly having a broken rib from the way they touched their upper torso. They must have went all out. Good. Uraraka was stronger than many knew and she needed that challenge. Actually...
“Uraraka, go see Recovery Girl. Carlos, come here,” Aizawa says as he walks over, seeing his own student nodding and walking towards Recovery Girl small set up station, “Yaoyorozu!” He called out, waving at Midnight to catch her attention. Once he had it, he pointed towards Yaoyorozu and motioned to have her come to him.
Even after a year, the young lady has yet to have the confidence he thinks she needs. He was glad Fatgum took her as an intern instead of going back to Uwabami. No disrespect to her, but she is not the right hero for Yaoyorozu. Maybe with Carlos, she’ll quicker on her feet and help with her confidence.
“Yes Sensei?” Yaoyorozu pants as she walks over, tired from her spar with Tsuyu. She was not an easy girl to beat. Even if it was a quirkless fight, her frog like abilities helped her.
“You and Carlos will take a two minute break and spar each other. Uraraka will take your spot with Asui,” Aizawa explains and looks at Carlos, “I appreciate you not taking it easy on my student. A few male students tend to take it easier because of her gender.”
Carlos was shocked that one, he understands what is being said, and two, at the praise. That was a first for him. He nods and smiles, clapping his hands together.
“I told her I wouldn’t be easy and she said I better not be. We both wanted a fair match and Uraraka, that’s her name right?, is very tough. She can definitely throw punches hard,” Carlos explains and looks at Yaoyorozu, giving a two finger wave.
Yaoyorozu looks at him with surprise, realizing what her teacher said is right. Some of the male students tend to go easier on them. They were training to be heroes. Villains don’t care about gender. All they care about is the damage inflicted. They all deserved an equal and fair fight!
“Then, Carlos-kun, I hope you don’t take it easy on me,” Yaoyorozu tells him, nodding.
“You bet, uh, what’s your name?”
“You can call me Momo.”
“Then you bet, Momo! This will be the fairest fight you’ve ever had!”
And right he was. Yaoyorozu lost count of the times she was slammed down to the ground, how much she was kicked, how many punches she dodged. She lost count. However, all this had her blood pumping. Adrenaline was high. She could tell that Carlos’ style of fighting was a mix of some style of MMA and street. She took karate and some Muay Thai classes, so she formed a quick strategy as they got into position.
(Little did they know, the whole class was now watching them. They could all see the fire rising from Yaoyorozu.)
Once Midnight dropped the flag, Carlos was the first to charge. Yaoyorozu dodges him and licks his back, backing away quickly and sees him stumble. She wipes off the blood on the corner of her lip, a smirk on her face as he chuckles. Carlos could see this would be an all feet style fighting and he jumps a little and grins.
“Oh it’s on, Momo.”
“Bring it on, Carlos.”
At that, Carlos charged at her once more and jumps, pretty high and was just about to kick Momo in her gut. Yet, Momo reacted quickly and dodged him, causing him to skid down on his feet. They don’t know when, but they had kicked off their shoes as to not damage each other severely. That second distraction Carlos needed to steady himself helped Momo run over and kick him in his side and then kick his chest. Carlos lets out a choked cough, Momo punching his face and watches as he falls down. She pants hard and stays standing, Carlos laying on the mat and cupping his cheek.
“Momo is the winner!” Midnight announces, snapping her whip.
Momo falls down onto her knees after the announcement, letting out a victorious scream. Finally, after many losses, she got a win and it felt amazing. She got the fair fight she wanted and saw in herself something she kept hidden. She hears her class cheering behind her, the other two boys clapping as well. Momo looks at Carlos and slowly moves over and helps him up.
“Thank you,” Momo whispers and sits next to him.
“For?” Carlos asks and looks at her, still rubbing her cheek.
“For the fight. I never had someone go all out with me other than my teacher.”
“Well, you’re welcome. You did amazingly,” Carlos grins and shakes the hand she extended and groans, “But can I see a nurse now? I think you bruised my jaw.”
Momo gasps and nods, stopping herself as well as she felt pain on her side. She groans and places a hand on her ribs that was were either broken or bruised. “I can’t move either,” Momo tells Carlos and they resort on lying on the ground for now.
From afar, Aizawa and Gustavo chuckle and shake hands. So far, everything was going to plan. Gustavo’s students were realizing their match, Aizawa could see his students starting to meet their match as well.
All that was left on their agenda was working on what happened earlier. That cannot go excused.
And it won’t.
“Kacchan?” Midoriya walks into the locker room and frowns as he didn’t see him, “Hey, I for your message. What’s up?”
“I need you to do something,” Bakugo says as he appears from the showers.
“Oh fuck,” Midoriya places a hand over his heart, “Dont do that. What is it?”
“I need you to tell me that fuckers weakness. The quirkless one.”
“Kendall?” Midoriya asks him, raising an eyebrow.
“Whatever his fucking name is! I don’t care! Will you fucking help or what?”
“No,” Midoriya shakes his head.
“Great now what I-wait what?” Bakugo looks at him with wide eyes.
“I said no,” Midoriya says in a more firm voice, “You know, I saw today what I could have achieved without a quirk. A quirk that destroys my body and makes me hold so much responsibility. But I didn’t because of what you put in my mind. That I was weak, gutless, useless. Kendall is more than both of us combined without a quirk. He beat you at a fair fight. So no, I won’t help you.”
“You’re taking his fucking side?! We just fucking met the bastard!”
“And he’s more of a hero than you right now,” Midoriya says and takes a step back, “I’ll see you at the dorms, Kacchan. Don’t worry, I haven’t said anything about middle school. If they do ask, then it depends on my mood. See you.”
Bakugo watches as Midoriya leaves, his fists clenching and he punches a locker. He screams in anger and pants through his gritted teeth, pushing back on the tears welling up and the knot in his throat.
Fuck Kendall. Fuck him. Screw him. He ruined everything. He destroyed everything he had. He was causing everything to slowly crumble. He was going to lose everything if he didn’t change.
Bakugo didn’t know if he was talking about Kendall or himself.
