Chapter Text

Shouta looks up Denki’s parent’s contact information when he gets to his desk in the teacher’s lounge the next day at school .

Shouta recognizes his mom immediately. She, too, was a hero with an electricity quirk, and they had definitely exchanged information before while working on a case. On the other hand, his dad was a businessman. Knowing what a hero’s schedule was like, he decided to call Denki’s dad.

The phone rings several times before a gruff voice picks up the phone. “What?”

“Hello. Is this Mr. Kaminari?”

“Yes, what do you want?” Shouta has no time for this type of attitude.

“I’m Denki’s heroic teacher and the father of his boyfriend. My husband would like to have you and your wife over for dinner this week to formally meet.”

“I’m a very busy man,” he responds with an annoyed tone.

“I am, too,” Shouta challenges. Silence falls over the phone. This man was obviously not used to being talked back to, but Shouta never lets himself be talked to with such disrespect.

“I’ll see you on Friday, the address will be sent to you by email.”

The man lets out an annoyed huff before hanging up.

Wow.

Shouta knew that he should have let Hizashi handle the call when he offered last night. He hates dealing with people, but he still never acts as awfully as Denki’s father did. This should be interesting.

---

A couple doors down, Nemuri was running class 3-A’s study period, but not many were actually getting work done. Hitoshi was sending concerned looks to his boyfriend across the classroom. It was common knowledge that sometimes Denki had a hard time concentration in class, but today he didn’t seem like his normal self in the slightest. The omega was tapping his foot nervously and couldn’t keep still in his desk.

It didn’t take a genius to find out why. Hitoshi had come downstairs yesterday morning when he woke up to find his boyfriend missing. He seemed to have caught the end of their conversation about meeting his parents, and ever since then Denki has been more spacy and jumpy than usual.

Hitoshi wasn’t usually into the lovey dovey cliche relationship stuff, but he knew if there was one thing he could do to make Denki smile, it was to be lovey dovey. The young alpha rips out a sheet of his notebook paper before asking him to meet with him on the roof during lunch.

He was about to fold the paper when he decided to tap Mina on the shoulder and ask to borrow one of her pink glitter pens. She glances at the paper before glancing up to his face and smirking.

“Of course, Lover Boy,” she says as she hands him the pen. Hitohsi knew that his cheeks were pink, but he was going to deal with it for Denki.

He drew a couple of hearts and a poorly illustrated cat before finally folding the paper. As he was about to give the note to Mina to pass along he makes eye contact with his aunt who simply winks at him before signaling to carry one. If his face wasn’t red before, it definitely is now. What is it with female alphas that gives them a kick out of him trying to cheer up his boyfriend? He just knows that this will make it back to his dads, and he groans internally.

Hitoshi watches as the note gets passed to Mina, then to Ururaka, and then finally to Denki who immediately pipes up at the note. Denki leans forward and gives his boyfriend a genuine smile, which is a huge relief for the alpha, and nods.

When lunch comes around, they make their way hand-in-hand to the roof which was fortunately empty today. It was telling that everyone knew that Denki needed some alone time by the fact that his friends didn’t fight Hitoshi for stealing Denki away from them. Usually, they all dramatically claimed that Hitoshi was hogging Denki all to himself, but today they just waved and ruffled his hair.

They settle on the floor and pull out their bentos, but Denki was still too quiet.

“You wanna talk about it, Denks?”

Denki hesitates. “I don’t know…”

“I won’t pressure you, but you know you can tell me anything.”

Denki pauses to think. “I don’t want you to think of me differently once you meet my parents.”

“I’ve already met your mom, so that’s half of it already done,” Hitoshi tries to brighten the mood.

“My dad will be different.”

“Okay well how about this. No matter what, I will love you the same.”

“Pinky promise?”

“Absolutely,” he says holding out his pinky to his boyfriend. Denki knows that it’s childish, but it does make him feel a little bit better.

---

Friday rolls around, and Hizashi flutters around the kitchen to prepare dinner while Shouta sets the table and then sits. In the past week, he has been experiencing the worst swollen ankles when he stands for too long. Hizashi was definitely the better cook, thinking it was better to not poison their guests even if this was more of a mission instead of simply meeting the parents of their son’s boyfriend. Because of this, they decided to ask Nemuri and Emi to take Eri for the night in case things got messy.

Denki was already over and helping Hizashi in the kitchen, tossing the salad while Hitoshi cut up vegetables. Even though Denki was usually so excited to help make dinner, this time he was still quiet. He nervously keeps an eye on the kitchen clock and only responds to Hitoshi’s little quips.

Finally the doorbell rings at six-fifteen. Given that his parents were invited to dinner at six, he secretly hoped that they either forgot or decided to bail. Unfortunately, Denki was not so lucky.

This was it, Denki thinks. After this, they are going to hate me, and I will never be allowed back into this home. Goodbye comfy couch and fairy lights.

Hizashi rushes to the door to let his parents in, putting on his performance persona. “Welcome to our home! You must be Yukio and Morina Kaminari. Please, come in.”

Denki’s parents have the most intense alpha atmosphere to them, immediately flooding the downstairs with alpha pheromones when they enter, making Shouta’s nose twitch.

“Thank you for inviting us,” Denki mom says as Hizashi offers his hand to shake. Denki’s dad stays silent but accepts the handshake from the blond alpha. He squeezes just a little too hard for Hizashi’s liking, making it known that he was sizing him up. Annoying.

Shouta stays sitting but observes the whole interaction before speaking up. “Hello, Hitoshi’s other father. Please excuse me for not getting up to greet you, the pregnancy has taken a toll on me lately.”

“Oh, it’s no problem at all! I remember how tiring my pregnancy was with Denki, where is he by the way?” The female alpha asks.

That’s when Denki notices that he’s been hiding behind Hitoshi so that his father couldn’t see him. He comes out and lets himself be pulled into his mother’s arms. He did miss this. He missed her hugs and the time she spent with him. For the past few years, she has been taking on more and more cases, leading her to almost never be home. That left Denki to have to deal with his father by himself whenever he went home.

Denki’s mom presses a kiss to his temple, but his father just narrows his eyes at his son, annoyed that he is the reason that he has to be at a dinner instead of working in his office.

Hitoshi can tell that Denki shrinks under his gaze, so he stands in front of him and offers his hand to his boyfriend’s father. The older alpha accepts his handshake.

“You must be the young alpha courting my son.”

“Yes, sir.”

“If I had it my way, he wouldn’t be dating anyone and only be focusing on his studies,” he says, tightening his grip on Hitoshi’s hand. Even at Hitohi’s height of six foot three inches, Denki’s father still stood a couple inches taller, and he was definitely using it to his advantage to intimidate him. “Watch yourself.”

“I will have to ask you to refrain from threatening my son,” Shouta says, starting to stand up from his seat. Shouta would definitely make sure his son respected Denki, but he would never threaten him or be so controlling.

Denki’s mother lets out a little nervous laugh. “Trust me, it was just a little joke. There’s no need for everyone to get so worked up.”

The room remains tense, before Hizashi calls out from the kitchen. “Um, dinner’s almost ready, shall we sit.”

Shouta doesn't break his eye contact with Denki’s father until he lets go of his son’s hand and sits down at the table.

Once seated, Denki’s father notices that Hizashi was the one cooking and serving dinner instead of Shouta. “Shouldn’t the omega be serving? This seems to be a little backward if you asked me.”

“Dad! Nobody did ask you!”

“Honey!” Denki and his mother exclaim at the same time, Denki shocked that he spoke up at all against his dad.

“I’m just saying,” the alpha defends himself.

“The omega has a name. You may call him Mr. Aizawa,” Hizashi speaks up for his mate. Hizashi knows he can hold his own, but that doesn’t mean he should have to.

“I’m sorry, he’s had a long day at the office, you know how that goes!” Denki’s mother tries to calm the situation. This always happens, Denki thinks. His dad says something offensive or controlling, and his mother just excuses his behavior.

“No, actually we don’t,” Hitoshi responds. That leaves the table silent and Shouta smirking, that’s his son.

Noticing that Denki is frozen in place, Hitoshi reaches under the table to link hands, hoping to calm him down even a little bit. Denki offers him a little smile before starting to eat his dinner. What a great start to the evening.

Most of the rest of dinner was tense, but Shouta and Hizashi were determined to see this through. Denki’s mom and Hizashi mostly asked questions, leading to a lot of single word or single sentence responses. Luckily, Hitoshi never removes his hand from Denki’s even when his dads notice him eating with his left hand.

While the dinner was tense, it didn’t get any worse than the start. That is until Mornia Kaminari’s phone rings and Denki’s heart immediately drops. He knows that ringtone. That was her work calling which always means she has to leave. She excuses herself to answer, but when she gets back she delivers the news that Denki knew was coming.

“Oh my goodness, I’m so sorry, but I’ve been called into work for a case. You know how hero work can be. Thank you all so much for dinner, but I have to head out.” Hizashi stands to show her out.

“Bye, Denki baby. I love you,” she says while blowing a kiss before walking out the door. Denki can’t help the frightened look on his face. She was the slight buffer he had with his dad, and now she’s gone.

Denki’s father now puts on his businessman persona, realizing that he has to participate in conversation now that his wife is gone. He clears his throat before turning to Hizashi. “So, how is my son doing in his heroic class?”

Hizashi pauses. “Oh, well, I only have him for english, not heroics. Shouta?” The whole table turns to look at the older omega.

“He’s an exceptional student. I have no doubt that he will be a wonderful hero.”

Yukio Kaminari freezes. “You mean to tell me that my son is being taught by an omega?” The anger in his voice is evident.

“Excuse-” Shouta gets cut off.

“A pregnant one at that!”

“Dad, don’t you dare talk to him like!” Denki yells.

“Denki, you don’t speak to me like that! It’s bad enough that you’re an omega that thinks he can be a hero, it’s worse that some knocked up whore is instructing you!”

The table erupts, chairs falling over as they quickly get to their feet and yelling continues.

Hitoshi finally gets the enraged alpha’s attention. “Is that how you really feel about him?” he yells.

“Of course-”

The room goes silent.

“Leave.” He states, purple eyes glowing slightly.

The alpha turns and walks right out the door, slamming it behind him. They stand there in silence until a pungent smell fills the air. Denki knew this was going to happen. If he had it his way, they never would have had to meet his father. That way he could just keep pretending everything was okay and that way they wouldn’t hate him. He just knows that they will never be able to look at them in the eye after his father managed to offend them all so easily.

“That went well,” Denki forces out before immediately breaking down into sobs. Hitoshi immediately rushes to his side and embraces him while Hizashi and Shouta try to release calming scents.

“I-I’m so so-sorry,” the young omega struggles to get out.

He should have fought them more on the dinner idea. He never should have let his father step foot into their happy home. And now his father ruined everything for him. That’s what Denki thinks until Hitoshi speaks up. “Denki, you have nothing to be sorry for.”

“Yes, I do. My parents can’t even handle one dinner to meet my boyfriend’s family. Please don’t hate me, I promise I don’t believe anything he says about you guys,” Denki sobs. Hitoshi just hugs him tighter to his chest and scents him in an attempt to stop his uneven breathing.

“Denki, we could never hate you. Your parents do not define you. We’re so sorry for pushing the dinner. We shouldn’t have made you experience that,” Shouta offers while reaching out to stroke his hair.

“Please don’t make me go home with him right now.”

“Of course not. You can stay here tonight or we can take you back to the dorms if you would prefer that,” Hizashi offers, but Denki shakes his head.

“I really want to stay here.”

“Okay!” Hizashi exclaims while clapping his hands together. “That was rough, so I think we all need some ice cream!”

“Hizashi, you’re lactose intolerant,” Shouta deadpans.

“Ice cream!” Hizashi just shouts back.

Denki sniffles, but nods his head. Everything was going to be alright.

---

Hitoshi spends the night peppering kisses all over the omega’s face and showering him in reassurances. Denki wakes the next morning to an empty nest, but a change of clothes lying next to him. He shrugs on the clothes that were obviously freshly scented before making his way downstairs.

Shouta sat at the dining room table that was straightened up after last night.

“Good morning, Denki,” Shouta says before sliding him a coffee mug.

“Good morning. Where’s Hitoshi?” the younger omega responds, taking a sip.

“Him and Hizashi are going to pick up Eri and run a few errands while they’re out. How are you feeling this morning?”

“Better than last night. Thank you for being so understanding,” he says, not making eye contact.

“Denki, you’re my son’s boyfriend and my student. Even if you weren’t dating Hitoshi, we would always be there for you. I promise.”

“Thank you.”

That’s when the door opens and Eri comes rushing in. “Denki!” she exclaims, throwing herself into his arms. He holds her close to him. He needed Eri cuddles.

“Okay, I think it’s my turn to hug my boyfriend, squirt,” Hitoshi says, prying Eri’s arms off of him and taking her place. “We picked some stuff up from the store for you,” He says when he breaks the hug.

“For me?”

Hitoshi nods before pulling a key out of the plastic bag and placing it into his boyfriend’s hand. “Here. This is a new copy of our house key.”

Denki can’t stop staring at the key and the cat keychain in his hand. When he finally looks up, he has tears in his eyes threatening to spill. “Are you sure?” His voice cracks.

Hizashi and Shouta nod at him. “Of course we are. You don’t have to use it if you don’t want to, but we want you to have it. You’re always welcome here.”

“Thank you.”

“Oh, one more thing,” Hitoshi says, pulling a pikachu mug out of the shopping bag. “We thought it was time you had your own mug. Eri helped us pick it out.”

That was what broke his restraint. He launched himself into his boyfriend’s arms. “I love you guys so much!”

That brought a smile to all of their faces. “We love you too, Denki.”

Yeah, Denki thought, everything was going to be okay.
