Chapter Text

Going on a date with a god wasn't exactly what Fundy expected it to be.

In all honesty, he wasn't sure exactly what it was that he was expecting. He was sitting in an empty grass field, millions of miles away from everything else. They had ventured so far out from the center of the world that the physics of the place had corrupted, with massive, twisted landforms that defied logic towered above everything in dizzying patterns. DreamXD hovered in front of him, and Fundy got the impression that it was smiling.

"I have been studying mortal customs," DreamXD said, and twitched its wrist. As it did so, hundreds of flowers bloomed, some of which Fundy hadn't ever seen before in his life. Their sweet aroma was pleasant to his nose, albeit slightly overpowering.

"Most people settle for giving a dozen roses," Fundy said, looking around in awe. Some of the flowers were as warped and strangely shaped as the landscape. It was beautiful, in a disturbing way. He focused his attention on DreamXD, who had tilted its head at him.

"I can do better than most people, Fundy. I can give you anything you desire," it said, drifting closer. Its human feet/paws/talons/hooves hovered just above the flowers, just barely avoiding skimming the delicate flowers. Fundy shook his head.

"I told you, DreamXD. Just company would be nice. Maybe dinner?" DreamXD nodded quickly. With another twitch, all around Fundy plates of the most wonderful smelling food materialized; fruits as bright and colorful as assorted gemstones, meats steaming as if taken fresh off of the flame, cakes and pastries more decadent than anything even Niki herself could make piled high on dozens of platters. It was more food in one place than Fundy had ever seen in his life.

Fundy settled down onto the soft grass, surrounded by flowers and good food, as the god of this world sat cross-legged in front of him on the ground. The grass was cool, and felt good against his paws and fur. He took a shining golden apple and sunk his sharp teeth into it, and found that it was the best-tasting thing he'd ever eaten.

As he ate his fill of enchanted golden apples, flaky sweets, and tender beef, DreamXD stayed silent and did nothing but watch him. After some time, Fundy swallowed the bite of steak that he had been enjoying.

"So what do you do, exactly? As a god, I mean," He asked, hoping to start a conversation. DreamXD shrugged and wrapped its many tails around itself like a cat (Fundy couldn't remember it having tails). The warm-cool light that emanated from the god pulsed gently in the warm daylight.

"I watch," DreamXD said. "I love watching the things you mortals get up to. It's so amazing how much you accomplish despite your short lives and lack of strength." Fundy nodded. It was a bit demeaning, but interesting nevertheless.

"You have so much creativity, it's amazing. I'm so glad I let all of you into my realm, even though I knew you guys won't last forever."

"What about all of the wars and pain?" Fundy asked, his tail flicking in slight irritation, but he took another bite of steak instead of continuing to speak. DreamXD hummed slightly, and it sounded like a hive of bees.

"It's simply in the nature of mortals," it said. "I wouldn't want to interfere anyways, in case things go even worse." Fundy supposed he was right. He wasn't sure if DreamXD getting involved in mortal conflicts would result in anything other than total annihilation. If the wrong person befriended the god… Things would get bad fast.

"I like observing you," DreamXD said, pressing a little closer. It seemed to enjoy being near him, and its presence felt like basking in the sunlight, so Fundy didn’t object. "You're different from the others. I enjoy it." Fundy felt a few hints of embarrassment. After all, who wouldn't feel embarrassed to be the target of a god's affection?

It felt good, actually, to be treated so kindly. He hadn't had this in a while. DreamXD truly did seem to adore him, if it was in a strange, twisted way. He wasn’t sure if the god was interested in him romantically or if it looked at him the same way Fundy would observe a particularly colorful insect. Deciding to bite the bullet, he reached his paw out and rested it on DreamXD's hand/talon/paw/hoof, trying to gauge its reaction.

The god looked at him questioningly, and Fundy got the impression of hundreds of eyes staring at him, though he averted his own as the bright light radiating from the god grew to be as bright as the sun.

It felt strange. Part of his brain screamed at him to release it's hand, as if it was as hot as lava, though part of him also screamed that it was as freezing as blue ice. It was soft as a rabbit's fur and sharp as the spines of a cactus. It was... Nice. The nerves of his paws stopped screaming after a few moments, and only pulsed with a strange energy. His fur stood on end as though he were being electrocuted.

"I haven't been touched like this in a long time," DreamXD said, and it was as though its voice was murmuring in Fundy's ear, as loud and low as ocean waves crashing into the shore. It sounded like wind whistling into the sharp edges of a cave. It sounded like music, and soft singing.

It reached out and put its other hand on Fundy's leg, and its touch burned just as its first hand had. Fundy would've sworn that his flesh was blistering and melting under his touch, though he could see that it wasn't. He was whole, and soon the pain turned to soothing tingles.

"I think I like this," DreamXD said, sounding almost breathless. Fundy shuddered at the overwhelming sensations coursing through him. It was good. It felt right. Fundy could easily see himself growing addicted to this.

DreamXD pulled away after a few moments, and the feeling abruptly vanished, though Fundy still felt invigorated. It was as though he'd had a full night of rest for the first time in months. He smiled, and he got the impression that the god was smiling back.

After a few more hours of mindless chatting, with DreamXD asking Fundy a few questions on his perspective on things and vice versa, the sun eventually began to sink, and a chill set in.

"I suppose I should be going home now," Fundy said, and DreamXD nodded. It stood up and helped him to his feet, and Fundy leaned into it a little bit. The feeling was still overwhelming, but it was nice. All of that day had been nice.

Fundy blinked, and instantly he was back in front of the small den that he had been sleeping in. DreamXD hovered almost awkwardly about a foot away. Its teleportation powers were disorienting, but the fear that Fundy had held inside of him throughout the day had vanished over the course of the day.

"You know," Fundy said, a smile gracing his muzzle, "At the end of dates, you usually kiss your partner."

He wasn't even sure if DreamXD had a mouth. Its face was hard to focus on, and none of the details stuck in his mind. It hesitated, the lights nearly faltering before flaring brightly as it gently hovered closer.

"I've never kissed anyone before," it said, almost reverently. It spoke as if Fundy were something to be worshipped instead.

"Let me show you," Fundy said, biting back a grin as he leaned in and kissed it.

It was as if he had swallowed a hot coal, or a mouthful of freezing seawater. It was suffocating and raw, and he could feel his lips begin to bleed as the god kissed him back. Mortals weren't meant to be so close to gods, especially not in such an intimate way. It was tearing him apart. It was wonderful.

He leaned back, and suddenly he could breathe again. He ran his tongue over his bloodied lips, panting as oxygen filled his lungs. It wasn't simply him being flustered; being so close to the god had literally sucked the oxygen out of his lungs and left him feeling dizzy and partially suffocated. His throat burned, and he could taste the bitter tang of blood all the way back in his throat.

The god reached out and ran a finger(?) over his lips, and Fundy shivered.

"I hurt you, little fox," it said, though it didn't sound particularly upset. "Let me heal you."

"No," Fundy said, pulling away. "Leave it. I'll see you in the morning, DreamXD," Fundy said, his voice raspy. His throat was sore just from the brief contact.

"Unless," he said, as the god began to drift away, "You wanted to stay the night?"

He got the impression that DreamXD was grinning. He opened his door and invited it inside.
