Chapter Text
They plan the wedding for next fall.
There’s much to do before then. Moving in together officially, planning for guests and the cake. So much to do . Weddings sure are a lot of work, and Jesse’s so happy just to be able to do all this planning at Hanzo’s side. With Hanzo, for their wedding.
He’s spent so much time smiling like a doof about it at work, that Ashe has stopped teasing him about it. She’s happy for him, Jesse can tell. They’ve known each other long enough that he’s come to read her better than anyone, so he knows that she’s deeply touched when he asks her to be his maid of honour, even when she tosses a scarf at his face in response.
Genji of course, will be Hanzo’s best man, to his great joy.
Eventually, both Jesse and Hanzo are settled in Jesse’s home. It feels so much more like a home with Hanzo here, Jesse’s more than happy to realize. They do their daily routine side by side in Jesse’s large bathroom, though now Hanzo braids Jesse’s mane and Jesse helps Hanzo put his hair up before work.
Hanzo also has been teaching Jesse to cook his favourite meals now that they live together properly. Jesse’s been enjoying spending that time with Hanzo. They’ve also dried the courtship wreath that Jesse made for Hanzo and preserved it. It now hangs over their bed. Jesse finds himself staring at the wreath a lot, proud of himself and so very glad Hanzo loved it so much to wish to save it.
Hanzo often stares at it too, and had once asked Jesse if he would teach him how to weave wreaths like that. Jesse is more than happy to oblige. He teaches Hanzo how to build the wreath, and it's not long before Hanzo presents one to Jesse. With gorgeous blooms wishing for a happy, long life together.
They dry and preserve that one too, and hang it in their living room.
As the seasons slowly change, Jesse learns more about what it's like to live with cervitaurs. It turns out, that much like actual deer, they shed their antler velvet. Poor Jesse had thought Hanzo was just having a rough morning when he holed himself in the bathroom one early fall morning a few weeks before the wedding was to take place. He had no idea how rough it was actually, not until he opened the door to find Hanzo grumpily scrubbing at his antlers.
His very bloody, velvet-coming-loose-in-strips antlers. Poor Hanzo had gone pink in his embarrassment, having not expected Jesse to be so worried as to barge in. Jesse did help Hanzo clean the mess his antlers had become once Hanzo thoroughly reassured him that he was not in pain, just very, very itchy. Hanzo was less embarrassed after that, and incredibly grateful. Jesse’s aid had meant that the itchy shedding velvet was removed far faster than it would have been had Hanzo been left to his own devices.
It means that Hanzo’s antlers are velvet-free when their wedding day dawns on a warm, fall day two weeks later. They’ve naturally chosen to have the service at the waterfall basin considering how much the spot means to them both. It’s a small affair with their closest friends and family. A lot of the same flowers that Hanzo put in the wreath he made for Jesse for happiness in their marriage are also included in the decorations.
So are some of the flowers that Jesse had picked for Hanzo’s courtship wreath. Hanzo’s even wearing some Forget-Me-Nots in his hair and woven in chains around his antlers. Jesse can’t take his eyes off of Hanzo the entire ceremony, to the point where when it's time for Jesse to say his vows, the priest has to get Jesse’s attention.
Hanzo of course gives a watery chuckle and squeezes Jesse’s hand. Jesse recites his vows looking deep into Hanzo’s eyes, and just barely manages to contain any giddy hoof tapping until after he and Hanzo exchange rings. Hanzo’s just as swept up in a sudden surge of affection and happiness because he joins Jesse in the happy hoof tapping.
They dance and prance the rest of the night away, and Hanzo and Jesse sneak away from the party to take a quiet moment to themselves at the bank of the waterfall basin. Jesse can’t stop rubbing the simple gold band on Hanzo’s finger, grinning impossibly wide and watery-eyed as he leans in to steal one of many kisses from Hanzo. His dear husband smiles into the kiss, and when they part, Jesse finds himself lost in Hanzo’s eyes.
He plans to get lost in them many times over the rest of their lives together.
