Chapter Text
"How was the class, Solntse?" Misses Grunt asked, done talking with Jeb.
"They were great, Misses Grunt! I'm happy to say that they were really good today!" Solntse answered proudly, puffing out his chest.
Misses Grunt pat his head, handing him a golden sticker. "I'm glad to hear that."
Solntse bright orange eyes gleamed with joy, and he ran inside with the rest of the class. Solntse wasn't like the rest of the class. He was the class leader. He had to be! He had to train to be the leader of the world in the future.
He was the son of the sun, after all.
Solntse skipped to the closet, where all of the backpacks were. He found his quickly, and put his sticker in the sticker pouch. His dad would be happy about that.
Once the class was all settled in, the literally bright child sat back in his seat, next to Audi. Audi was his friend. She had nice dark skin, red eyes, and black hair up in a flame like his.
"Why do you sit next to me?" Audi muttered. Solntse brightened up.
"Because us leaders must stick together!"
"I am the princess of darkness, Sun. We are rivals from birth. I will cause the end of the world. You will try to stop me."
"Well, right now you're not destroying anything!" Solntse piped up.
"I am but a little kid," she replied grimly, playing with her black sleeves. "I will double in size an power."
"And so will I," Solntse grit his teeth. "Buuuut, we're friends right now!"
The girl paused. "Yes. Why? To make it hurt more when I kill you?"
Solntse huffed.
"Alright, class! Welcome back from recess!" Misses Grunt cheered. Solntse's smile returned.
"What're you drawing?" Solntse asked, walking up to the scarlet-eyed girl.
"...a flower," she grumbled to the ginger, who plopped down beside her.
"I think I'll draw a flower, too," he smiled, grabbing a yellow crayon.
Audi looked around her, and then came closer to the sunling. "Why?"
"Because I wanna!" he giggled, looping the crayon around to make petals. A thick, black aura of smoke came off of Audi's shoulders and back.
"Why are you around me?"
Solntse stilled in his flower-drawing. He couldn't talk to Audi in the way he wanted to right now. The crayon dragged deeper on the paper, turning a darker shade. "Because I like you. Why don't you like me?"
"I never said that," she muttered.
"You keep questioning why I'm around you. It sounds like you don't want me around."
"We're enemies, Sun. We can't be around each other."
"Says who?"
"Life, Sun!" Audi raised her voice, the smoke becoming more prominent. "Our parents. The world. The future. What is keeping us together?"
Solntse reached for her hand. "Me."
"I want you around. You're fun. You're like me. You make me feel less alone. We're leaders, Auditor! I just want you to feel the same."
Audi returned the gesture. "I do, but I don't wanna. Because I don't wanna see you mad at me in the future."
"Well, I'm not mad at you right now, am I?"
Audi slowly shook her head. Solntse smiled."Well, that's all that matters, right? Maybe we'll be super mean in the future, and you'll be the big baddie. But, you're not the big baddie right now."
For what seemed like the first time in forever, Audi smiled. She smiled, and clenched her hand. She continued drawing her flower, and Solntse finished his. When put together, they were opposite colors. One was a purple flower drawn on a black paper. One was a yellow flower drawn on white paper. But they were still flowers. One would grow in a dark world, and the other would brighten theirs. But, they would grow together. And in the end, they were just flowers, together. In the same garden, for two separate worlds.
And there was nothing wrong with that.
