Chapter Text
It’s my first day at the prestigious UA high school and things couldn’t have gone more wrong. On the plus side, I recognized two familiar faces…? The scruffy-looking man with the jumpsuit; I remember is Eraserhead, his face is very intimidating so I mentally slapped the cat emoji on his face. The other face? Is the nervous laughter emoji, the voice behind it belongs to principal Nezu.
He was very apologetic when Eraserhead brought me inside his office; gently ushering me to sit on the couch and asking what kind of tea I like to drink.
“Oh, Earl Grey is fine, if you have it.”
“How about London Fog?” the principal asked gleefully.
I nodded my head in response and moments later two beautifully ornate tea cups were placed in front of us. Eraserhead and Nezu took their seats on the couch across from me. I could feel my nervousness and apprehension bubbling up inside, so I quickly took a sip to calm my nerves.
“I do apologize for not meeting you at the gates.” Nezu bowed before sipping his tea.
“A small oversight, you didn’t know I was going to have a panic attack.”
“No Nezu is right, you just got out of the hospital. We should’ve prepared better.” Eraserhead interjected while stirring his tea.
It’s nice to hear that they care. My nerves started to ease as Nezu talked about his plan for me at UA.
“Psychokinetic quirks are extremely rare. those who have them are burdened with this vast power that not only takes a toll on the user mentally; but alters their perception of reality.” Eraserhead said while adjusting his scarf.
He's not wrong. Sometimes when I'm lost in my head, memories start to resurface and become corporeal.
“Not only that, we feel that you haven’t been given proper quirk counseling. That I cannot stand for it’s-”
“Actually, I have received quirk counseling before.” the room grew quiet at my admittance.
I stared at the now-empty teacup and sighed. “When my quirk first manifested, I caused a window to explode and my parents were called in…”
I shuddered as I weaved a lie. Even though they have good intentions; they aren't Greg and this isn't group therapy.
I calmly set my cup on the coffee table; Nezu hops up and goes to refill it. The principal comes back with the refilled cup and hands it off to me. I whispered my thanks as I have my life-blood back in my hands.
"Miss L/N, what do you hope to get out of your education here at UA?"
An odd question, but I'll bite.
"To control my quirk." The principal giggles at my response.
"That's society's answer, what is your answer?"
The pool of amber liquid reflects my irises, and all I see are empty orbs that hold fear.
F̺̤̐̏͊͟͝ͅȇ̜̜͜͠ạ̳̃̇͌͟r͎̺̤͂̚.̬̊
"I don't want to be afraid anymore…"
I didn't see the looks Eraserhead and Nezu gave each other, but I can assume that they think I'm withholding more than I let on.
--------
After our meeting in his office; Principal Nezu decided that since the halls are empty. That now would be the perfect time to take a tour of the campus. Since we’re in the main building we started with the cafeteria. Principal Nezu introduced me to Lunch Rush; a man of few words who looks like a clone trooper extra. The mask he wears completely obscures his face so that’s a plus, our visit concluded with Lunch Rush giving me a cookie.
Next, we made our way to the Nurse’s office and met the famous Recovery Girl. notably, Recovery Girl’s face was obscured, but with an emoji. As expected she greeted me with the warmth of a loving grandmother; she even said that I could hide in the nurse’s office if needed. I mentally filed that away, just in case.
The last stop was the administration office.
"Do you need a moment?" Nezu asks while walking up to the sliding door of the administration office.
He waits for my response; I try to open my mouth but it quickly closes. I give up and meekly nod my head in response. Suddenly my left hand is enveloped in a fluffy warmth feeling.
I didn't even know I was looking down; until I looked at my hand and saw that Principal Nezu was gently holding it.
"It's ok, you can meet the staff when you're ready."
Slowly the emoji sticker that covered his face peeled. Revealing the chimera's black beady eyes. I tilted my head in confusion.
"I know what you must be thinking. Is he a man, a bear, or a rat?" He giggled.
I nodded furiously.
"The answer is simple. I am me."
"It's best if you don't think about it too much." Eraserhead said while ruffling my hair a bit. I gave him a small smile in return.
"Ready?" The chimera asks.
No, I'm not. The only way to see this through is by going forward. I gently squeeze his paw and the sliding door is slid open.
-----
If there's anything I hate more than being ill-equipped for a situation; it's being the center of attention. All eyes were on me and Nezu as we graced the staff with our presence. Eraserhead introduced me to the staff that was in the office, the others must be teaching their respective classes.
“ This is our new transfer student. Starting today she’ll be in class 1a for the heroics course.”
I winced at his words. I’m only doing the hero course to control my quirk. Nothing more.
“Uh, hello I’m y/n.” I awkwardly responded as I stared off to the side.
If I don’t focus on the voids, my thoughts won’t swarm and make me feel unstable. The blonde lanky man from the train is sitting next to a hero dressed in a spacesuit. He gives me a wave and I also wave back; that’s three people I know. He gives me a sheepish smile while rubbing the back of his head in embarrassment. A little blood starts to trickle from his smile as he tries to convey his thanks, but coughs.
“Oh All-might, you’ve met our new student before?” Nezu inquired while taking refuge on Eraserheads back.
And he just let him nuzzle into his personal space...cool… wait, did he just say All-might!
“Yes, we were both on the train heading for UA.”
“Mhm, wait did you just say All-might?” I can't believe I didn't see it earlier, but to be fair, how does one lose eyes and then gain them?
“About the incident in the courtyard?” A pro hero dressed in a tan cloak with a garish helmet and a jaw guard lectured, pro hero ectoplasm. He was sitting at a desk on the other side of the office.
“Yes, it’s just we weren’t expecting her this early. It puts a hamper on my original plan.” Nezu informed the staff.
Excuse me? I thought the biggest bombshell for today was my panic attack, but this is very disheartening.
“Well, she’s gonna be behind in her training. The students already have done quirk assessment
training and battle training.” the pro hero dressed in a spacesuit spoke, pro hero thirteen.
“Don’t worry, she’s going to be in my class so training-”
“This is... too much.” The voices are swarming; the uncertainty, fear, and…malice. Collapsing under the weight of my emotions my knees hit the floor; physically and emotionally unable to carry this load.
“̟̏Á͜ẇ̲͙̘̀͗̏̕͢͟,̬̲̹͐̄͡ ̱̿w̜̑ḩ̬̞̿̅̄a̰͍͑̍̍͜t̨͔̑̇’̼͉͗̓̈ͅs̢̨̬̜͐̍͗̓ w̢͍̘̜͕̓͌͒͘͡r͇̳̣̼̺͗̅̏̚on͕͇̠͙̮̍̽̾͡ḡ̥̤͛?̻̉”̨̠̰̆̾̽̃̏͜ͅ The voice laughed. It was the last thing I heard before the world in front of me was dyed crimson.
