Chapter Text
Everything went still as the hybrid and the brute stared at one another, the cool air sharpening with tension as both refused to break eye contact, the unwillingness to submit to the other evident despite the obvious power difference due to physical capabilities.
Afterall Dream, to be blunt, looked like shit.
Bruise like eyebags marred his cheeks which were usually bunched in a smile instead sunken with exhaustion, only emphasised by the stitches across his eyebrow, dark and angry to match the unhealthy hue of his face. A small scab say across his throat from Technos blade, sending small shivers of guilt through his spine as the scab moved with Dreams adam’s apple, the hybrid swallowing rapidly showing his nerves. And that was just the visible injuries, the rest hidden beneath sheep’s skin blankets of the finest quality, placed over the previously freezing man who was now no longer wracked by shivers at the very least. Yet his shaky breaths were still evident by the uneven rise and fall of his chest which was only getting worse the longer the two stared, not even the birds song interrupting the moment.
Expectedly, Dream was the first to look away.
The unique merge of emerald and vermillion shot down to the blankets, head dipping down making white wisps of hair fall into his face, the blend of pink and white once again catching Technos attention as he stared at the smooth locks, wondering if he could run his fingers through it as easily as his own.
But there were more pressing matters to deal with than his infatuation with Dream.
“Dream,” his voice was as monotone as usual, the lack of decipherable emotion in his voice causing the once blonde man to look up at him, “I’ve got a healing pot and some soup we uhh... Should probably talk.”
The piglin cautiously stalked into the room, eyes trained on the tension still thrumming through Dreams form unsure if it was aggression or fear before offering out the pot and bowl, hands perfectly still despite his anxiety. He wasn’t exactly known for his conversational skills so this was gonna be awkward.

With a soft yet scratchy “thanks,” Dream took and downed the potion, the soft pink liquid quickly being swallowed and with it some of the tension draining from Dreams form despite the way his lip peeled back in disgust and with it revealed his teeth, eerily similar to Technos humanoid form, canine fangs and thick tusks jutting from his mouth. Still, his hands still shook slightly as he grasped the bowl of soup from Technos surer grip, now fully sitting up to reveal the scratches and gauze across his torso, his ears no longer pinned back but instead twitching at each tiny noise in the surrounding area, identical to Technos own once again sending a warm thrum of belonging through his veins.
“Sooo..... You’re a piglin hybrid huh?”
A soft giggle was his reply, making Techno snort indignantly at the small smile now gracing Dreams face, anxious eyes finally glancing back up to meet his own, “notch your conversational skills need some work.”
“Alright teletubbie no need to bully me within my own home,” he let out a dramatic sigh, collapsing onto the chair besides the desk, “after all my hospitality too.”
“Heartbreaking.”
“Truly.”
The duo smiled, the previous nerves radiating from both nether borns melting into their instinctual relaxation around one another, as well as the familiarity of their usual banter, “yes Techie, i’m a piglin hybrid, thought you should’ve been able to guess so.”
“Hey now I was just making sure,” Dream hummed softly in response, “is that why you wear the mask huh? Scared of your heritage?”
Ethereal orbs glanced back down at his soup, the fingers gripping the wooden bowl tapping in patterns too quick for Techno to discern. Although the words were harsh, both were aware he meant no harm yet the silence from Dream spoke masses of how quickly the brute had figure out his self deprecating ways.
“I grew up around humans. Well mostly humans anyways,” his eyes stayed averted, voice scratchy and tinged with nerves which made Techno twitch with the unusual desire to comfort the other, “I grew up with Sapnap and Bad, Sap’s a human and Bad’s a demon and they both know I’m a hybrid or whatever but it’s just... It fucking sucks because I never understood. Kids are so fucking vicious and I never understood what was wrong with me to make me so fucking hated ya’ know.”
Heated shivers ran through Technos spine as Dream spoke, disgust heavy in the hybrids tone in a way that made it difficult to tell if the hate was towards himself or others. Because he understood. He understood the cold disgusted looks from onlookers and the way people purposefully moved their kids away from him and the spiteful words which spat from their tainted mouths full of pure malice.
“They’d beat me, and abuse me and bully me and fucking tear me apart like some sort of less than human experimentation and yet no one cared. Bad complained at me for getting in fights, Sapnap ignored it and continued to play with the other kids and the so-called adults watched on with amusement. It was like I was fucking scum , nothing more than another mob to be cut down and slaughtered,” his breath hitched dangerously, a sob threatening to break from his throat, a weak whimper escaping instead and before Techno could process it he’d moved across the room, with uncharacteristic delicacy, he took the soup from Dreams hands to instead cradle them within his own, Dreams colder hands instantly being swarmed by the brutes who let out low snorts and chuffs in a instinctual response to calm the other, his usually apathetic eyes soft as he watched the white haired man slump to the side to lean on him with a confused whine, his body responding in a way he likely didn’t understand.
And fuck if that didn’t break Technos heart.
Techno grew up in the nether. Born and raised. Afterall he was no hybrid but a pure piglin brute, born into a piglin clan and raised within it and with that he learnt the complexities of the piglin language and culture in a way he was sure Dream couldn’t quite comprehend. Sure the admin could read books and hear the ancient stories based upon their kind but nothing could compare to experiencing it. The memories of sprinting barefoot over burning netherrack with hoglin cubs and fellow piglins in packs, a cool breeze echoing in their ears that sent unfamiliar shivers through their heated skin whilst annoyed snorts and heavy steps echoed behind them, a test of the power dynamics even from such a young age that resulted in scruffs and smackings yet was always the highlight of their days. The memories of digging out golden ingots to shape and meld with their bare hands as gifts to the elders to show thankfulness for their upbringing whilst also teaching the deeply ingrained respect that came from the ore, those who were particularly blessed even getting their gold forged into the golden blocks which decorated the bastions of their lands. The memories of learning the piglin tongue and all the deeper instincts it brought up. How natural it felt to fall limp in one of his packs grasp from a mere grab to the back of the neck or the bone deep relaxation that came from their croons, even the instinctual panic and fear that came from one of his owns grumbling snarls in warning.
It was born and natural to Technoblade, ingrained in his very sense of being whereas Dream was likely cut in half, afterall, being a hybrid had more cons than pros. Drawn towards the nether but unable to survive there. Tugged and forced to comply with instincts one could never understand. A constant sense of displacement which was known to send one insane.
Afterall there was a reason why hybrids had short life spans.
And that didn’t even begin to pry into the hatred associated with them.
The way they were hunted down like animals, often out of pure spite. No matter how humanity progressed they would forever despise those with differences no matter how irrelevant; they couldn’t handle the change from being ‘pure’. Some hybrids were hunted for profit, certain body parts selling for masses in the black market especially those of more hostile mob hybrids, anything from warden eyes to deer antlers, everything was of price to those who enjoyed pain. Hell, many were experimented upon, scientists curious as to how a human body could have such traits, their curiosity including tearing people limb from limb as though it weren’t torture to the highest extent under the pretty little guise of science.
The life of a hybrid was one of paranoid and very real fear.
Honestly he would’ve been more surprised with Dream hadn’t experienced some form of discrimination.
But either way the thoughts sent both the voices and Techno into a frenzy.
BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD
we should tear them limb from limb
i bet they would bleed so red
TECHNOBLADE NEVER DIES.

Once comforting chuff and snorts had dissolved into a low rumble in his throat, tension rocking his body as his crimson eyes gained a bloody glaze, unfocussed and cold in a way his enemies knew held promises of a brutal death, afterall many had grown to learn of the signs of the blood god shining through Techno and if the eyes were any indicator the voices only wanted it more.
However, through the haze of screaming voices which cried for pools of blood deep enough to bathe his victims within, came nervous whines and snorts, confused and scared and instinctual in a way that instantly made Techno cut off his growl with a chuff, the haze still heavy as he didn’t process himself yanking Dream into his arms, the hybrid shaking and nervous yet letting out weak attempts at snorts and rubbing circles into his scarred shoulder blades to bring him back. To bring back the piglin with far softer emotions than portrayed rather than the blood god who listened to the mindless cries for brutality within his own mind.
“Techno...?”
The murky smell of bubbling lava filled his sinuses, paired with an oddly yet perfectly characteristic mixture of mint, the harsh and the easing smells forcing him to blink rapidly, the voices screams for blood quickly turning to cooing as he stared at the hybrid in his lap, body tense yet eyes soft as he slowly felt the soft circles being carved into his shoulder blades.
“Sorry, got abit’ caught up there,” the awkward remorse in his voice made Dream snicker, carefully climbing off Techno but keeping his body close enough to ease the brutes over protectiveness.
“Nah its fine, not your fault.”
“Sooooo... Basically your saying you were shunned by something you can’t control and as a result hid it to avoid the separation?”
Dream let out a soft hum, eyes watching the ceiling with drowsy eyes, “pretty much yeah.”
“And the injuries?”
The admin merely shrugged, “wasn’t really thinking, got lost in the tundra and was surrounded by mobs, luckily I memorised your houses coords before I died of hypothermia or blood loss.”
“You memorised the coords to my house?” he let out an amused huff to show he wasn’t mad, grinning as a bright flush blesses the apples of Dreams cheeks,
“shut up Blade.”
“You first Teletubbie.”
The usually green clad man stuck his tongue out childishly, his tusks getting in the way slightly making Techno wheeze at his struggle, the scarlet flush still marring his cheeks and ears before the man reached back towards his soup, hands still trembling as he ate, the warm atmosphere becoming comfortable between the rivals with just nature stirring between them, a long lost sense of kinship blossoming comfortably between the hybrid and the brute, their similarities closer than their differences as he continued to take in the new features of the other man. The change from short fluffy golden curls which tugged on Technos hindbrain to thicker softer white locks still had both him and chat in awe, the colour making the pink flushed across his skin and the stripes within his hair seemingly increase with saturation, everything about the man new and vibrant in an unknown way that made Techno warm and jittery with possibility. Possibilities of sparring with the man few could best, known for speed and agility and strength in a way that perfectly paralleled his own brutal ways, their fighting styles made to slow around each other as exact opposites. Possibilities of teaching the younger about their culture in a way he doubted the other knew, to forge and mold gold with nether heated hands into intricate designs only their own kind could truly appreciate, nothing like the slightly dented and likely old piercings already placed within Dreams lengthened ears.
“Hey Dream?”
“Hmm?”
“Did you make your piercings yourself?”
The jewel eyes man blinked in suprise at the question, his ears flicking backwards slightly to catch the light on the uneven gold in them, beautiful despite the obvious deformities. It made Techno hum softly, the sight so reminiscent to how young piglets would forge that it made even chat soften.

“I uhh, yeah. I know they aren’t the best I mean I made them years ago I obviously know a lot more about forgery and umm I read up on jewellery significance for piglins ‘cos of umm you... But still yeah I made them but I could definitely do a lot better now I just never had time for it—.”
A calloused scar riddled hand clamped over the others mouth, promptly shutting up his rambles whilst snickering at the wide eyed admin.
“I wasn’t accusing you of anything I was just askin’. You said you read about piglin jewellery customs?” Techno pulled his hand away, watching Dream lick his lips and tusks with a sarcastic grimace on his face.
“Yeah uhh, different symbols, shapes, sizes and materials have different meanings right? Hanging down usually represents passed loved ones, jewels are commonly used to show what pack your in, umm... Rings of different sizes can be used to show like, friendships and marriage and stuff...”
Unbeknownst to Dream, a soft smile graced Technos face, rare and unusual but gentle as he watched the younger remember the details of a culture he had been torn away from, a culture he was bordered between due to the expectations and disgraces of humanity. A culture Techno himself was so deeply intuned to that he felt his fingers tap with hidden, uncharacteristic excitement at the prospects of sharing. To finally have someone alike himself, powerful within his own right, one that Techno could see eye to eye with yet could allow them to bond in a way of which others could never understand.
“Hey Dream.”
The man cut off his rambling, kaleidoscopic eyes snapping to the piglin brute, “yeah?”
“You want me to show you?”
“What? Show me what?”
“Well we could start with the gold forgery, show you how to do it properly rather than the deformed lumps in your ears—“
“Hey!”
“— afterall, there’s only so much you can learn from reading and you strike me as a more hands on guy. So. Want me to show you?”
An a nervous smile pulled on Dreams lips, so different to his usual cocky smirk at chat roared in appreciation of finally seeing the emotions of a man once perceived as emotionless.
“You would?”
“‘Course.”
A contented sigh escaped Dream, “thank you Techno.”
“Eeeeeeeeh, don’t get sappy Teletubbie I dont do emotions.”
“Big talk from the man who forced me to cuddle him!”
“HEH! Don’t use my instincts against me!”
Familiar wheezes and exclaimed snorts filled the room, the birds sang their praises amidst the snow crested landscapes of which the two resided, so different from their natural place of residence yet had become home for the hybrid and the brute, both finally calmed from their constant draw towards one another as they found kinship within other dimensions.
