Chapter Text
The sweeping of the leaves on the ground accompanied by the gentle breeze was a glorious feeling, truly. Usually it was either scorching hot or freezing cold in London, so cool days like this made George especially glad he got away.
"Are you free later tonight?" the blonde that courteously walked at George's side asked. He stepped with his heels ahead of him gaining a confident bounce in his step, looking up at the mostly clouded sky. Patches of baby blue peaking out here and there amongst the big, puffy white clouds.
"Depends."
Dream chortled, looking down at his boyfriend in amusement. "Depends? On what?"
George exchanged a shrug. "I have work to do."
"Oh come on," Dream chuckled, nudging George without force. "I just wanted to take you out on a date." He grinned cheekily, knowing he could be seen in George peripheral.
It had been a few weeks since their first date, a few weeks since they called each other their boyfriend. George had never felt so content with his life, truly content. He never thought he was capable of feeling such ecstatic emotions. He was happy before, yes, but since Dream and him called it official, he was sailing breezily on cloud nine. Dream was the one thing he needed to complete his boring little life. His days were consumed with the thought of the golden-retriever-like boy's laughter and his smile that was as bright as the sunshine.
His favorite part was when they would sneak off somewhere private just to be in each other's company alone. The tight hugs or the lazy cuddles under a tree in the middle of god knew where. The tenderness in their eyes when they met each other's gaze, and the lenient grazes when they caressed the others cheek. George could accept to himself that there was a possibility that someone out there wasn't there to just use him.
"Where to?" George responded, still facing the road they walked on ahead. They took the long way home. Though Dream could have very well driven, walking meant they'd be together longer. Because at the end of the day, it wasn't really celebrated when two boys appeared to be openly romantically involved. They cherished the time they had together.
"I'll pick you up at ten," Dream grinned, clicking his tongue. George wanted to object due to the little information he was given, but it was no use. Plus, he couldn't just say no to a date with Dream.
Their fingers danced into each other’s, a grip the strongest force couldn't dare to break. Their arms swung as they walked. George's eyes closed, listening to the birds chirping and the song of the trees in the wind. Dreams footsteps right next to him and his calm breaths. He knew what it felt like to lay on his chest and just listen to his lungs take in air and let it out slowly. He knew the heartbeat that pounded in his boyfriends chest comfortingly. He knew the feeling of kind hands combing softly through his messy brown hair. It was upsetting he couldn’t experience that twenty four-seven.
His favorite date had to be the one where they ended up falling asleep in the park until three in the morning. They had gotten there some time in the afternoon and talked the entire day away, purely ignoring the outside word. Their stubbornness left them to sleep in each other's arms until they realized the uncomfortable dew in the grass seeping through their clothes. Still, even when they woke up it was the worst feeling in the world to tear apart and get themselves to their own abodes.
George wanted to travel the world with that boy. He couldn't help it. He knew that there was no one else in the whole world that was meant for him. He wanted to go to every amusement park, concert, country, and so on with him. He never wanted anything to take the miraculous feeling from him.
Through all the heartache and heartbreak he fell in to, all the boy who used him and abused his heart. George could barely believe he let himself open up to the universe again, but he wouldn’t ever take a step back.
"Well, guess this is where we part is it?" Their hands hung loosely in front of them, George standing on the porch of his house and Dream straight ahead. "Well, until later."
George frowned. "If you don't get your math work done before you pick me up there will be consequence."
"Is that a promise?" Dream snickered, teasing. George shoved him in response, stifling his own laughter at the immature crack.
George rolled his eyes. "It's time for you to go now. Bye-bye!" George shoo'd him away.
Dream groaned, "Okay, wait. Last thing."
George cocked a brow, folding his arms across his chest. An amused smirk remained on his face. "What?"
Dream leaned over to plant a gentle but quick kiss on George's cheek. He pulled away with a smile, swiping his boyfriends hair from his face. "I'll see you tonight. Goodbye, George."
George stood there watching Dream walk away, the bright red blush unforgivingly eminent on his pale skin. Dream did that every time they parted ways, but it never failed to flare him up.
Georges heart would conquer the world for that boy, he knew that much. And he was glad to say that Dream felt the same.
-
"You still haven't told me where we're going." George pouted. He didn't typically enjoy being out of the loop on things. Especially on things that involved Dream. Every day was something new and possibly endangering to their lives.
"You'll see! You'll see. I'm not going to, like, kill you or anything. I promise. You trust me right?" Dream's focus was on the road ahead of him, one hand on the steering wheel and the other glued to George's.
"Yeah..," George didn't say anything more. It was dark outside. The roads were empty beside the homeless and the drunk that groggily walked around finding a place to call home for the night. George watched as buildings passed them, ones he had walked past too many times in the small town.
George furrowed his brows. "The drive in? But there's no showing tonight." He looked out the window then back to Dream.
"So? Won't hurt to just hang out here." Dream shrugged. There was on open gate that was meant to be locked shut that the boy drove in through and parked the truck in the middle of the field. "We're here."
George was suspicious to say the least, but he went without questions. He hopped out of the truck and headed to the back.
"Feels nice out here, doesn't it?" Dream stirred conversation, pulling down the trunk so they could get inside of it.
"Very.. but it's kind of almost pitch black. It’s hard to see you..." George hopped inside, taking a spot on the edge where Dream joined him seconds after.
Dreams's hand rested gently on top of George's, who's rested on the surface of the bed. His fingers rubbed it in smooth, slow circles. "This is where we first met."
"It is..," George whispered back. He observed the empty area. Usually it was so full of life. The emptiness gave it an eerie feeling George wasn't quite enjoying. He knew he was safe in Dream's company, there was nothing to worry about. "Did you buy tickets to see the movie that night?"
Dream laughed, "that's an odd question. Of course we did. Everyone does."
"I have never spent my money on this place except for concessions." George leaned over and pointed westward, "that gate over there has a hole in it. Free entry. You should try it next time."
"I'll never be able to wrap my head around the fact that goody-two-shoes George is the person who sneaks into drive in theaters and runs from the cops. Or stays out until the asscrack of dawn yet still manages to excel tremendously in school," Dream teased him, leaning into his shoulders with breathy chuckles.
"We both know life isn't all about doing what's good," George snickered. "Even if it breaks the law just a little bit."
George stared at the way the moon bounced from Dream's eyes. He looked at that feature a lot. Every time they found themselves outside on a clear night, George would focus on the glow in Dream. From the inside out, there was always a light that shone so brightly. It covered the dullness that extruded from George, the pain and heartbreak from the years before and it guided him further and further away from the past and lead him to his future.
There's always the rare chance that the sun and the moon meet, and the sun always shines from ahead or behind. He liked to recall the tales he heard when he was just a child. The ones where people believed the sun and the moon were lovers, the perfect pair. They make the world they orbit around safe and control the tides and the seasons. No one ever could have thought they could be together until they met at the solar eclipse. Connected again for another few moments of tenderness and warmth, creating a wonderful atmosphere on the Earth they so dearly love together. He always thought it was the stupidest thing he had ever heard for a while. Until he met the sun in his eyes, saw the way they could make the mountains move or the tides turn. The way they were once forbidden from ever seeing each other but reunite to give the other the glow they had been begging for. The attention, the warmth, the feeling, the beauty. Dreams as the sun, his sun.
"I always come here. If school got too much, me and the others would sneak in and watch whatever lame movie they had playing for the night even if we had seen it a thousand times already," George spoke faintly. The conversation was meant for no one else's ears. "The night I met you happened to be one of those nights. Walking through that rusty town, inhaling the scent of cigarette smoke and gasoline at every corner with nothing to do. Too much school work for any of us to even think about."
"The team never goes out together. Usually it's just me and Sapnap. But it was a free day, no practice. So we all got together to go to the movies. Our plan the whole time was to, in fact, annoy whatever group happened to be sitting in front of us. Jocks are the high school dickheads, so it was only in character of us. We were not expecting to be fought back, though." Dream recalled back to that night from months ago. Something so small that turned so big over the course of months. They knew they talked about that day often, but it was truly a life changing moment for the better.
"I'd do it again," George responded solemnly. "You think it's funny to be a jerk?" His eyes never left Dream's face, especially not when Dream turned his head at that point.
"No. You know school has its cliques and clichés. It's just how it is. I'm not myself when I'm with the team. The only people who have any idea of who I am would be Sapnap and you. I kept making excuses to get away from them whenever I possibly could because I was so entranced with the way you made me feel. And I don't just mean my attraction to you. I mean that you make me feel like me. I know I've said it before, but it's true," Dream confessed without hesitation. He was rarely hesitant with George. He acted on impulse and said what he always wanted to. Said thing he never could before. George made him feel vulnerable and humane. He didn’t have to put up a mask the way he did at school.
"God," George playfully drifted their shoulders into each other, "you're a such sap. Go write some poetry or something."
"Poetry? Really? You think I'm a poetry guy?" Dream mused sarcastically, sure George wasn't being serious.
"Who knows what else you have hidden inside of that head of yours every time you talk to me like that," George joked, enjoying himself. No matter how much he bullied Dream for the cheesy way he talked to him, they both knew how much he adored it.
"Hey, just because I used to write a self insert Star Wars stories when I was a child doesn't mean I still do!" Dream defended himself, throwing his free hand up in their air in innocence.
"You what?" George threw his head back in laughter. "You're kidding!"
Dream dropped his head and shook it, admitting to his embarrassing past. "Okay, moving on!"
"I'll forever hold that against you until I get to read one," George scrunched up his nose at Dream.
"I refuse to ever let you read one. I don't even want to think about them again," Dream shook his head again, regretting letting his secret spill from his mouth.
"One day."
The world fell silent around them. The only sounds were the rustling animals on the ground and the crickets playing their nightly tune that was quite annoying after some time.
"Sometimes I sit outside when the sun is setting and I think about how I got here. And I wonder if you're watching the same sunset with me," George whispered, breaking the barrier.
"I started watching the sunset a few months ago. I don't know why. It's beautiful. The transition from day to night, it's so wonderful. Maybe because I wanted to be the first person to see my moon again," Dream answered back in the same hushed voice. "Since you made that connection, the one about us being the sun and the moon, I don't think I have ever looked at the sky the same."
George's eyes flickered between Dreams beaming eyes and his lips while he talked. He wanted to say something in return. He knew what he could have said then too, he could have agreed and went on. But he couldn't. His mind was frozen on a single thought.
It wasn't something he could control either, or he would've stopped himself right then and there. When his lips were pressed against Dream's, it was too late to go back. Dream's lips were soft, everything George had imagined them to be. But the feeling didn't last long. He pulled away as soon as he regained his consciousness and hopped off the bed of the the truck.
"Shit," George stammered, "Sorry. I'm sorry. I don't know what that was." He mustered out the last few words before starting to rush away from Dream as quickly as he could, making his leave.
It took a few moments, but eventually there was a hand wrapped around George's wrist and pulling him back. There was only a content smile on Dreams dimly lit face that contrasted George's glossed eyes and a face full of fear and regret.
"Dream.. I'm sorry, I don't know what came over me really you were just talking and I just froze and suddenly that happened and I didn't mean it so I-," George climbed over his words faster than he could talk. He was cut of mid ramble by Dream's lips. Dream's hand held George's face gently when he kissed him, his other hand still wrapped on George's wrist. George’s thoughts were lost immediately, any apology was no use anymore. The kiss was worth more than anything George had ever had.
It was longer than the first kiss, but to George it felt like the quickest peck while also being the longest kiss in the world. He wanted to have it again and again, and he never wanted it to stop. Restless nights thinking about what Dream's lips would feel like pressed against his own were finally thrown into the air and turned into something existent, and he would be able to relive it over and over.
"Hey," Dream looked down at him tenderly, resting their foreheads together gently. "Don't apologize."
"Okay," George breathed, shutting his eyes.
Dream placed a lingering kiss to George's forehead. "I've always wanted to do that to you."
"Do what?" George asked, blinking his eyes open again.
"Kiss you."
"Always want to?" George knitted his brows together with the question. It was shocking to him to hear. The fact that someone yearned to kiss him for a long time was bewildering to his mind. He never thought it was possible.
"You already know how head over heels I have been for you for months. I have wanted to kiss you for ages, George! Or were you foo oblivious to open your eyes and see?”
George let out a breath he didn't know he was holding in for so long. Relief fell over him with ease. He didn’t know why he though his own boyfriend would be mad at him for kissing him."You can do it as much as you want to, idiot."
Dream seemed to like the sound of that because only a tick later were their lips connected once again. It wasn't like the first two, nothing like it in fact. It felt addicting and passionate. George never wanted to leave it. Their lips gently pushed at the others, savoring every single second of it. For the first time in his life, a light went off inside of George. It was bright and beautiful, it was the universes way of telling him he made it. The entrancing feeling was like a drug that pulled someone in and would never let them go. A feeling George longed for for ages and ages but never got to feel.
It was the time where the sun and the moon got to see each other. When the moon got to shine as bright as the sun during the midday light. Where they met hands and rediscovered not only the love they have for one another, but to rediscover who they really were. They brought out the best in one another.
George had never had a real kiss. Nothing so careful yet so lovingly as the kiss he had with Dream. Every kiss he had was ever just a joke, something that would be meaningless in the end. But with Dream, those kisses were something worth holding on to. Something to store in the mental memory book and to never forget. Something he will relive over and over and over again.
Dreams hand hooked under his boyfriends jaw, the other wrapped around his waist to draw him as close as possible. Georges arms wrapped loosely around His boyfriends neck. It was perfect. Everything was perfect.
They pulled away unwillingly from each other with the need for air, keeping their lips close and not daring to move out of position.
Dream chuckled quietly, letting his head rest gently on Georges's forehead.
"What?" George knitted his brows, not really enjoying the laughter after they had just shared a moment.
"Nothing. I'm just really, really happy that you have nice lips. I don't know what I would have done if you didn't," Dream joked, his voice just a murmur.
"Oh shut up," George scoffed, rolling his eyes playfully.
"And the fact that I am so, so lucky to have you."
If it was possible, George would stop time so they could stay that way forever. He wouldn't change a single thing about his life or the world around him. Everything lined up so beautifully. He couldn't ever give it up.
Though the dry grass on the ground unbelievably uncomfortable, George was grateful it wasn't the hard bed of the truck. Regardless though, where they were wouldn't have mattered anyway. His mind was too focused on the exchanged words and tranquil touches between them.
"That wasn't my first kiss," George said out of no where. His eyes were trained on outlining constellations above him, but hearing Dream's head turned resulted in him doing the same.
"Mine either," Dream sighed.
"But it was the first time someone ever meant it. I was just a joke to people before I came here. So anything I ever had wasn't like this." He hated opening up. He hated remembering why he moved to Florida, and he hated the people he talked about. But he felt safe around Dream, like he could tell him anything.
Dream didn't respond to it with words. He pecked his nose with a smile. "Mine were never real either. I was always forced to be in a relationship with a spoiled rotten cheerleader to keep up my reputation. I know it's not compared to what you felt, but I have a proposal."
"For?"
"I'd like to consider this my first kiss. Because it's the first one I ever cared about and enjoyed."
George stayed silent, reflecting on Dream's words. George thought his past ones were real, he always did. But never were. He would like to forget them, he wanted to forget it all. "Okay. Mine too."
George was trained on the sky again. The world moved around them so slowly, the minutes ticked on forever and ever. Every second of his life was a new journey opening up, but he chose to stay put. He knew wherever else he could be, he wouldn't be as happy as he was now.
"Thank you," George whispered.
"What?"
"For making me feel like I'm okay again. It's something I haven't felt in a long time."
There was no reason to fear the future, not anymore.
