Rin is slowly opening her eyes. She barely slept last night, just like she did in the last couple of nights. She can finally give an answer to Sesshomaru-sama. Yes! Rin took a decision and it's one that will change her life....forever.
Her lord came. Rin doesn't know why she knows it, but she does. It sounds too unbelievable that she felt him? It's like her heart stops the fast beating and calms down every time Lord Sesshomaru is near Rin. He gives her strength and safety. He is like home. He is home.
Lord Sesshomaru doesn't finish his question and Rin gets out of the hut. She looks radiant. Her face is calm, but gentle. So much gentleness in such a tiny human, because Rin is shorter than every of the other human girls he knows. ( not that Sesshomaru would know many human girls, but still) He always thinks that Rin's lack of food and hard life in childhood made her not fully develop. He doesn't care for all of these, though. All that Sesshomaru wants is that Rin to be always healthy and have that feeling that people always seem to crave for: happiness. Sesshomaru never felt happiness before. At least, not from what he knows. He is a full demon unlike his half-brother Inuyasha ( which, being said, does not seem that annoying and practically begging to be murdered by Sesshomaru for a time. He is...well....he exists and his existence doesn't bother Sesshomaru anymore. Also, that noisy partner of his is not too bad, either) and demons cannot feel this type of emotion. But seeing Rin like this, with this warmth that she brings everywhere she goes, with a big smile on her face and shiny eyes moves in Sesshomaru something he has never thought: his heart. He may not admit it, but his heart makes a weird move when Rin is close. What is this? It may be that feeling that all the humans are talking about? The feeling that puts everything into motion and gives strength? The feeling that makes you want to protect the person that make you feel this way?
' Do you have something to protect?'
Could it be..love? He, Sesshomaru, the Great Demon, The Great Demon Dog descendant can be capable of this so humanly emotion? Love....such a small, but powerful word. Just like Rin.
" Lord Sesshomaru!" Rin makes a little bow " Can I talk to you for some moments? I have an answer to your question."
Sesshomaru shudders a little bit. What's happening? You are Lord Sesshomaru! You do not shiver in front of a human girl...but this human girl is Rin and she means the whole world for you.
" Rin. Fine. Let's go."
Jaken almost trips trying to follow him." I am coming, Lord Sesshomaru."
Sesshomaru stops and wants to turn around while Kaede opens her mouth, but none of them finish their action because a soft voice speaks." Lord Jaken, can you let me and Lord Sesshomaru talk....alone? I promise it won't be long and you will be quickly next to him as you want to."
Jaken stands still. Did Rin just give him an order? Who does she think she is? " Hm... Fine, Rin."
Did he just bow? In front of RIN?
" You don't have to do that, Jaken-sama. See you soon."
Sesshomaru glances a proud look at her, while she is looking at him directly in his eyes and smiles. Jaken cannot move looking at them.
" You feel the power too, right, little demon?"
Jaken's voice is not as half as annoying as he wanted to when he speaks " It's ' Jaken', lady...and yes...I felt the need to bow in front of her. In front of Rin...Do you think that..?"
" What I think is not important. But, if you want my opinion, I THINK that you should learn to address this way to our Rin pretty soon because I feel a wedding is coming closer."
" WEDDING?"
Kaede sighs. " I should have known you are here, Inuyasha, since I saw Sesshomaru sniffing and grunting. Where did all of you hide?"
" Sango and I hide behind that big tree while Inuyasha and Kagome were at its peak. Shippo and Kirara were at the tree in front of us."
" Ahhh, you and your foolishness. I wonder when you will grow up...who's staying with your kids? They are still pretty young, girls are barely 6 and Hisui only 4."
" Kohaku is there with them. I trust him," speaks Sango with her gentle voice.
" You hag, do your think Rin will accept Sesshomaru's proposal?"
" I don't know what she will do, Inuyasha, I am not a mind-reader...but I know what will happen to you in a few seconds."
" With me? What?"
Kaede looks at Kagome and nods. Kagome screams suddenly " OSAWARI!"
" What the fuck, Kagome?!? Why did you do it?"
" To make you learn some manners, you fool!!" it's Kaede's turn to scream " I am LADY KAEDE, NOT THE OLD HAG, stupid arrogant!"
Rin dreamed a lot about this moment. She thought that her heart would beat so fast that it may break her chest any second, but the present is totally different from what she has imagined. She is calm. She doesn't feel any kind of fear or anxiety or negative feeling. This is the right thing. She knows it. And she will say it.
" Sesshomaru-sama..."
Sesshomaru stops and turns around.
" Rin... Did you think about my proposal?"
Rin blushes. Proposal...yes, that was a proposal, but hearing Lord Sesshomaru saying it out loud makes her cheeks burn. He really asked her to marry him. Could she be luckier?
" I did. I made a decision."
Is it her imagination or Lord Sesshomaru's brows furrowed? Is he truly nervous? Does he really think her heart may be another one then yes?
" What do you think my answer is?"
" I don't know, Rin. I don't know what can be in your mind."
Rin smiles gently and Sesshomaru melts.
" But you certainly must know what's in my heart, Sesshomaru-sama."
Rin makes a few steps, takes Sesshomaru's hand into hers and places it on her chest.
" Rin's heart beats only for you, Sesshomaru-sama. It is and will always be."
" Loving a demon is not easy, Rin,"
" Why are you talking about yourself using only the word ' demon'? Yes, you are a demon, Rin knows that. But you treat me better than any other human did and this says something more than you may want to, Sesshomaru-sama."
Sesshomaru stays quiet. Rin has one of the purest souls. He knows what he has to do.
" Fine. If you agree with my proposal, Rin, our marriage will take place in a year from now."
A year? Rin smiles and nods. She understands.
" After one year, I will give you the same answer. Why do you look surprised? I know why are you doing this. It will be the same. Trust your Rin, Sesshomaru-sama."
Sesshomaru makes a step forward.
" Rin... you can stop with this 'Sesshomaru-sama' non-sense.."
" What do you mean, Sesshomaru-sama?"
" You don't have any reason to call me like this anymore. I will be your husband in one year. Call me just...Sesshomaru."
Did he..really say...what Rin heard him saying?
" I cannot call you like this, Sesshomaru-sama. No. I don't think I am inferior to you. It's just... I respect you too much to not call you this way. Sango-chan also calls Miroku, her husband, "hoshi-sama" in public. She loves him and they are equal, but this doesn't stop her from calling him in that way. I am doing the same with you. Do not think Rin ever feels bad when doing this. I love you and I will always will."
Returning to the village as freshly engaged makes Rin look down all the road back. Sesshomaru was quiet the whole time. Not that he usually talks much, but now he doesn't even look at her. Rin knows why. She confessed her love to him a few moments ago. Sesshomaru's expression was priceless and Rin will remember it her whole life. It was a very interesting mix between confusion, panick and a feeling that only Rin could know it was happiness. He almost smiled and that's something big for Lord Sesshomaru.
Sesshomaru stops and holds her hand. Rin blushes furiously raising her head.
" Rin..."
But whispers interrupt their conversation.
" Look at them! They were right? So the rumours were true! She is in love with this...DEMON." Rin's eyes get bigger. " How could she? Our men are not good enough? A demon? Her babies will be..."
" WHY DON'T YOU COME HERE AND SAY THIS INTO MY FACE? Don't you dare go, you'll stay and listen!"
Sesshomaru looks stupefied at Rin, while Inuyasha and the rest of the group, who are not far away from them, turn around quickly.
" It was Rin screaming like this? What happened? She needs help?" asks Inuyasha preparing his sword. Kagome stops him.
" Doo'y, Inuyasha. Rin doesn't need your help now. I think she wants to confront those women by herself. I think that they offended her and Sesshomaru" Inuyasha pulls back his sword.
" Those women offended my Lord?!? I will teach them a lesson!"
Inuyasha holds Jaken by his head. " Stay quiet, worm! Don't embarrass Sesshomaru having your ass kicked by women." Inuyasha bends down and whispers. " They are dangerous creature, trust me."
Jaken looks at Kaede, then at Sango, and stops.
" Also, stupid. Sesshomaru is there to protect Rin. You'd only make a fuss and annoy him."
" Who asked you, old hag?"
" Lady, idiot! I am a lady! Why the fuck can't you understand that?"
Rin makes a few steps in the front and look directly at the women while talking. " Yes! The rumours you heard are true. This is my fiance, Lord Sesshomaru. Yes, he is a demon. And also, yes, he is better than your men." Rin's voice cracks " But do you know why? He was always there to protect me. When I needed shelter, he gave it to me. When I needed food, he offered it to me. When I needed a home, he brang me here, to Kaede-sama. When I...( died, she thinks)..when I needed the most, he was always there to take care of me and people I love. What did your men do? Killed my family! My mother, my father, my brother...they were all killed by people like you. Humans....they called themselves ' humans'..they were far away from that. A few months ago, one of your men tricked me and took me to the woods to be raped by the shogun and his men only to humiliate me because I turned him down. A human.... Another 'humans' tried to rape me in group... humans..... He was the one who saved me! THE DEMON! And he is the man I will marry because I love him. DO YOU HEAR ME? I LOVE LORD SESSHOMARU! Now, get lost!"
Every woman quickly went and Rin raised her head walking like a true princess. Sesshomaru looked at her proudly. He understood at that moment that Rin is able to confront every obstacle they will face in the future. She is strong and brave and he.... he loves her. Truly, deeply, with all his being.
Seeing Sesshomaru after Rin was immediately taken in the hut by the girls to gossip probably made Inuyasha think that his brother is truly serious about this girl. But we are talking about Sesshomaru here! Sesshomaru who despise humans!
" Hey! Are you serious with this girl, Sesshomaru? Or you just get bored?"
Sesshomaru's glacial look says more than his words. " That is not your concern" and then he fled away with Jaken who keeps cursing Inuyasha for insulting his master.
" Inuyasha... I think he is serious..." says Miroku.
" Yeah, I think that too."
" Why did you ask, then?"
" Well, you can never know with him. I wanted to be sure."
" And now you are?"
Inuyasha raises his head to look at his brother. " Yeah.... now I am...I don't know what or when something changed in him, but he truly loves Rin."
" Lord Sesshomaru...." says Jaken " did you tell Rin that you will lose everything if you marry her?"
" Like Inuyasha."
" Excuse me, Lord Sesshomaru?"
" The same answer that I gave to him. That is not your concern."
1 year after...
Does it smells like cherry blossom here or is it only Rin's imagination? Sure it is! The cherry tree is far away from here. She is on Lord Sesshomaru's land now. No human was ever here and she, Kaede, Sango, Miroku and their kids are the first humans that ever step on Sesshomaru's lands. Rin knew Sesshomaru would accept for them to come and she also feels that he wanted for them to come too. They are all a family now. A family...Rin finally has what she had craved for her entire life. She cannot be more blessed. The door opens. Someone's in.
She is breathtaking that's for sure. Sesshomaru is sure he has never seen something so precious in his entire life...and he had a pretty long one. Rin is not beautiful only outside, but her inside beauty is, in fact, what makes her unique. She is powerful, but soft. Brave, but afraid in the same time. Strong and weak. After everything she has been through she managed to find the courage to keep going and keep her heart kind. Sesshomaru has never seen this type of power that humans have until her and her little friends, like the monk and his family.
" Lord Sesshomaru."
" You have no reason to call me like this anymore, Rin."
" Lord Sesshomaru, I already.."
" I have lost my title. Or, I will, soon."
Rin feels like something hit her in the stomach. " What?"
" After I will marry you, I will lose my title and everything I have. Demons cannot marry humans. They lose what they had before if they do this."
Rin feels something hot on her cheek. It's her tear. " Did you always know this, Sesshomaru-sama?"
" Yes."
" And why... you knew I won't marry you anymore if you will lose everything, right?"
Something that Rin has never seen in him is on Sesshomaru's expression right now: fear. He fears that she may give up on him. On them.
" And you will?"
" I want to marry you, Lord Sesshomaru. But I don't want to lose everything that you have for.."
Sesshomaru comes closer and pulls her into a warm hug. " Everything that I want is right here, into my arms, Rin. I don't need their titles. I know who I am. I am Sesshomaru. No one can take me this."
Rin cries and smiles at the same time. " But the demons..the others..they won't try to put you down...or make fun of you..?"
" I am waiting for the fool who will try to make fun of me. And putting me down....my only concern is you, Rin. That they may try to hurt you." he caresses her cheek while saying this and Rin leans into his touch.
" I am afraid of nothing if you are next to me, Sesshomaru-sama" Seshsomaru's brows raise " You will always be Sesshomaru-sama for me..because it's you that made yourself a Lord...not the title.."
Sesshomaru pulls her closer and they hug like there's no tomorrow. Sesshomaru feels Rin's heartbeat increased.
" Are you fine, Rin? Your heart beats faster."
Rin pulls back a little to look at him. " No, it's just... I want something."
Sesshomaru's hand clenches on her waist. Rin blushes.
" What do you want, Rin?"
Rin looks directly into his eyes like only she can do it, cups his face surprising Sesshomaru, caresses his cheek making him lean and kiss the inside of her hand...and raise on her tiptoes. He understands. He sustains her with his strong hand and Rin's next three words make a whole storm of feelings inside Sesshomaru.
" I want this" and she kisses him as her life would depend on it.
Sesshomaru is surprised at the moment. At the feeling. He had plenty of lovers, but he has never done something so intimate as a kiss. Rin's lips on his are soft, but determined. He can feel her passion and her love. His blood boils and his heart craves.
' So this is what you were talking about, father...'
He holds her tight and kisses her back, finally having the love of his life into his.
A knock on the door interrupts them. Sesshomaru turns around to see a Jaken who wipes his tears.
" Sesshomaru-sama, Rin-sama...everyone's waiting for you for the ceremony. Who will take you, Rin?"
" I will...if she wants to, of course."
Rin smiles from all her heart. " Of course I do, Inuyasha-sama."
" But do you ask ME if I want to?"
" You're not important, asshole, Rin is. Rin, it will be a honour!"
" I am waiting for you" says Seshsomaru kissing her hand and going outside.
" Jaken-sama...you don't have to call me like this.."
Jaken smiles sadly. " You are way too kind, Rin."
" Yes, this is better. Only RIN" and she gives him one of her purest smiles, just like the one she gave it when she was 8 years old and made Jaken's heart soften.
' She is the best choice for him...will follow him everywhere...I hope this alliance won't bring any sufference"
Jaken goes too and Inuyasha offers his arm to Rin. " Ready, Rin? Or should I call you ' sister-in-law'?"
Rin laughs " I would love to! Can you..?"
She whispers something in his ear and Inuyasha grins, " Trust me! It will be MY PLEASURE!"
Walking down the aisle, holding Inuyasha's arm, while the man she loves waits for her is un unbelievable feeling. A few years ago she was an orphan who was raised by kindness by Kaede. Now, she has a family on her own, friends, sister-in-laws, brother-in-law...people always talk about magic. This is the real magic.
Rin suddenly feels the smell of cherry blossom. Sango's girls and little Hisui, who is only 5, are throwing with them on Rin. Their smell brings back memories.
Rin and Inuyasha arrive near Sesshomaru. " Well, take care of MY SISTER-IN-LAW, BROTHER!"
Everyone tries to stop their laughter while Sesshomaru looks like a volcano that's ready to explode.
" You..."
" It was my idea."
Sesshomaru looks at Rin who's watching him with a playful smile and....
" Did you just..?"
" Get out of here, you fool."
Inuyasha snorts " There is still time to change your mind, Rin" but he goes next to Kagome.
" Inuyasha, what happened? What did you say?"
" I just..he....I saw him..SMILING."
" So..? It's his wedding. It's normal for him to be..hmm..to be..."
" See? Even you can't say ' happy' when it's about Sesshomaru."
Kagome smiles. " Maybe this is a new beginning for him more than it is for Rin."
" Are you sure, milord?"
Sesshomaru doesn't hesitate a second" Yes."
" And you..." Sesshomaru's death stare look at him " milady?"
" I am" says Rin holding Sesshomaru's hand.
" Very well. Let the ceremony begin."
" You can say your vows."
Sesshomaru starts first. " Rin. I hated all the humans until you. I still despise them...."
Inuyasha snorts " Pf! What a vow!"
" Yours was not any better"
" Kagome.."
"....but I don't hate them anymore. My father always had a special care for humans and I never understood him. Now I do. Now I understand, father. I know you always wanted this. This woman in front of me made me do it. I will live as long she will. I will destroy everyone who makes her cry. I will make sure she is always happy. I will die when she will. Rin, I give my life to you and you give your life to me. I hope I will be worthy of your heart."
If these words were not enough, Sesshomaru makes everyone gasp when he bows. He makes a bow inf front of Rin. Him. Sesshomaru.
" I would have never thought this day will come..I'd rather expected from Naraku to become a good person than this."
"Hoshi-sama, Sesshomaru's feelings for Rin touch me. They are truly meant for each other."
Miroku holds Sango's hand. " Just like us."
" I...he bowed..my brother...in front of a human.."
Kagome holds Inuyasha's arm and he rests his head on hers.
" That's love."
" He loves her... wow..." says Inuyasha kissing his wife's head.
Kagome places her hand on her belly suddenly.
" What is it, Kagome?"
" I don't know... I felt something..a weird feeling..." she caresses her stomach " who knows what it was?"
Rin is looking stunned, with tears in her eyes at Sesshomaru. She holds his chin and raises his head. " I will always be next yo you, no matter what. If you tell me to put myself in front of a sword, I would, because I know that sword won't hurt me. I completely trust you, Sesshomaru-sama, and I love you dearly. I put my life into your hands and our kids's fate if they will appear someday." Sesshomaru places his hand onto Rin's belly by instinct, murmuring 'kids'. " I will always love and be forever with you....no matter what."
Sesshomaru knows what she is thinking. She will die one day, while he won't. But this day is far away and now someone said ' I declare you married' and Sesshomaru doesn't see or hear anyone. He takes his wife by the waist and places a passionate kiss on her lips. Rin circles his neck with her hands and kisses back, making Sango and Miroku cover their kids's eyes laughing. Shippo and Kirara are looking on the other side, blushing.
" Sesshomaru married, in love with a human, kissing her inf front of us..I think I died and landed on an alternate universe" says Shippo.
" This idiot really got married to a human..God, I'd have never thought I will wish his happiness."
Kagome smiles. She knows this is not true. " Whatever you say, Inuyasha."
Rin and Sesshomaru break away and Rin tells something to him in his ear. Sesshomaru snorts. Rin is looking lovingly at him and it seems that Sesshomaru gave up.
Everyone congrats them, hugging and kissing Rin, for this marriage, but Sesshomaru is going straight to Inuyasha, who is wondering if he should pull out his sword. And he thinks that he should, when Sesshomaru leans his hand, waiting to be shaken. Rin si looking at them smiling.
" Rin made me do it."
Inuyasha leans his hand too and they shake hands for the first time in their life. " I wasn't expecting to be your idea, anyway."
But when their hands touch...
Sesshomaru quickly pulls his hand out and goes to Rin.
" What happened, Inuyasha?"
" It felt like electricity. He felt it too."
" He is your brother. You two are connected." Kagome wipes tear.
" You miss Sota, right?"
" Yes."
" WHo knows? Maybe, one day, life will lead him back to us."
" WHo knows, Inuyasha?...who knows.."
" Let's go, Rin" Sesshomaru lifts Rin upon the ground and flies from there with her.
" He really doesn't waste time" jokes Miroku.
" What time for what, daddy?" asks Kyn'u.
Miroku blushes.
" Let's see how do you explain that, you idiot" jokes Inuyasha, while Sango pulls Miroku's ear.
" Well, sweetie..to rest. He must be so tired."
His room is big and cold, but Rin doesn't mind. She doesn't feel the cold now. Excitement runs through her veins and the big bed that's in the centre of the room makes her even more hot.
" Rin."
Sesshomaru's voice is deep. Rin can feel the effect of it everywhere.
" We don't have to do something that you don't want to."
Rin smiles. He is way too gentle. She turns around to face him and lets her hair down. Sesshomaru is watching her....with lust? That is? He may truly want HER?
Rin makes a few steps forward and she places her hands on his armour. She can feel his heart beating. It's fast.
" You should take this off....Sesshomaru."
Rin closes her eyes, blushing and smiling immediately after she said it. Sesshomaru takes her chin into his fingers, making her raise her head.
" Look at me, Rin."
Rin's hands start to undo his armour and open her eyes. She looks straight into his eyes, like she would look into his soul. She is mesmerising.
" You are the most beautiful creature that I have ever seen. Don't. I am not saying it only because I love you." Rin's tears flow. He said it. " I love you because you are like this. This is my Rin. I hope I won't fail you."
Rin places his finger onto his lips immediately. " You will never. I know."
Sesshomaru pulls her closer.
" Now..."
Rin bites her lip. " Now.."
Sesshomaru caresses her right cheek with one hand awhile with the other is holding the knot of her kimono.
" Would you allow me to make you my wife...from all the points of view?"
Rin smiles and lets the last tears for that night flow. " Yes. Yes, I do."
Sesshomaru takes her into his strong arms and gently places her on the bed. He kisses her forehead, her nose, her lips... " My Rin.."..and then lower, on her neck, making her shiver and hold him tighter.
What they do not know is that, in this night, their family will start to grow!
