I Love You, Just Like This

Chapter Text

Chan had been to many bookstores with Felix. The young vampire enjoyed reading and often dragged a very willing Chan with him on his hunt for new stories. However, this one was surely climbing its way up Chan’s list of favorites.
The dark oak shelves were filled with old and new tomes, and the air smelled like paper. There was a certain feeling in the air that only came from the presence of magic, and that paired with the feeling of having Felix at his side gave Chan a sense of peace he did not often feel in the world of humans.
Though to be honest, Chan was nearly one hundred percent sure that they were no longer in the world of humans. The boy Seungmin at the counter had certainly been human but Minho had a sparkly and electric aura that surely meant he was a creature of deep magic, not the shallow physical magic that made up werewolves and vampires. Chan wasn’t sure what kind of creature Minho was, but he was most definitely not human.
Felix had ventured over to a shelf that appeared to house potion books, many of which were clearly used, as made clear by the mysterious stains and blotches that covered their pages.
“Do you think sleeping potions or caffeine potions would be easier for a beginner?” Felix had two different books in hand, and he furrowed his brow as he looked between the two of them.
Chan considered for a moment. “I think maybe caffeine because if a sleeping potion went wrong I imagine it would have results that were a lot worse than staying awake for longer than you should.”
Felix winced, and then gently slid the book of sleeping potions back onto the shelf.
Thumbing through the other book, Felix distractedly wandered between the shelves and away from Chan, headed in the direction of the table by the fireplace where Minho had mentioned that he would bring Chan’s green tea. The werewolf had already picked out a book of folktales and followed behind Felix to ensure that he didn’t walk into any shelves or do some other damage to himself.

The two of them settled into the big squashy loveseat by the crackling fireplace, a small table with a teacup and a small pot of steaming tea beside it. They unwound scarves and unbuttoned their coats, and Chan freed his ears from his hat. Felix ran his fingers through Chan’s hair to scratch behind his fuzzy ears. Chan hummed in pleasure and pulled Felix into his side, the two of them enjoying their respective books and each other's presence.
Chan sipped on his tea (it truly was the best cup of green tea he’d ever had) and closed his eyes to enjoy the moment that he was in. Once he had absorbed the ambiance for a moment, he opened his eyes and turned his attention to his book.

When they left the bookstore, it was with happy smiles, warm hearts, and two new books to finish reading. Minho had enthusiastically helped them with their purchases and encouraged them to come again. The other employee, Seungmin, was no longer at the counter by the time Chan and Felix had returned.
The walk to Chan’s apartment was hurried; the wind had become biting as the sun had gone down and it was too cold to walk slowly. Chan was careful to place himself between Felix and the worst of the blustery wind, as his poor little vampire boyfriend was practically vibrating with shivers.
Arriving at his apartment, Chan fumbled with his keys as Felix huddled up against his side to leech off of the older’s higher body temperature.
Finally getting the key in the lock successfully, Chan pushed the door open and they were greeted by a burst of warm air and the comforting smell of one’s own home. Kicking off their shoes, Felix beelined for the sofa and assorted blankets and throws that Chan had collected there while the werewolf went to turn on the gas fireplace.
Felix made whining noises and grabby hands while Chan hung up his coat and hat, straightened their shoes, and placed the pills he had gotten on the kitchen counter. Felix was not silenced until Chan finally joined him on the sofa and he was able to cuddle up to the older, rubbing his cheek back and forth across Chan’s broad chest.
Chan gazed down at his boyfriend, whose cheeks were squished with his tiny fangs just visible over his bottom lip. Chan was so lucky. This little vampire was so completely adorable, and he was Chan’s to cherish. Even though the two had only been in each other’s lives for a short while, Chan already knew that Felix was someone that he wanted to be with for a long time.
Felix laid still against Chan’s chest. If the werewolf didn’t know any better he would have thought the young vampire was sleeping soundly. Felix often spoke about how the thing he missed the most about being human was the ability to take a good nap. But now, being cuddled up against Chan with a soft blanket and the fire on was even better.
