Chapter Text

The whole class was quiet as they tried to process what their dear professor just said. Sing? Them? She can sing, but why in front of everyone? Lumine sank in her seat while Mona let out a scoff and flipped her hair, her pigtail hitting Scaramouche right in the face—wait, why are they even beside each other?! Suddenly, everyone started whining and Venti just laughed in response.

“Don’t worry! You can duet! Hmm, let’s see,” He looks around his students as if he was searching for a certain someone, “Ah, Scaramouche! Come down here!”

The boy points himself, “Wha—me?”

“Got cotton in your ears?” Mona snorts, “You heard him, bowl boy.”

Scaramouche turned to look at Mona and he looked like he was so ready to jump at her, “Didn’t your parents teach you to shut up and mind your own business?”

Lumine groaned internally. They’re starting again?! Can’t these two finish one whole day without fighting? Paimon could only pat her friend’s back in an attempt to comfort her. Scaramouche turned to look at Mona and showed her his middle finger that she slapped in response.

“Ooh, you too, Mona!” Venti laughs, “I heard that the both of you have good chemistry!”

Oh, great.

The purple-haired girl lets out an airy laugh, “N-No, Sir! I believe Scaramouche can handle this on his own.”

“No, no. Come on down, my two bright pupils!” The older man waved his hand and giggled, “Sucrose, mind playing the piano for us?”

The latter smiled in response and headed for the piano while Scaramouche let out an audible groan (but gets up anyway), Mona rolling her eyes and following. The whole class was quiet, probably preparing for the chaos that was about to unfold. Scaramouche and Mona fighting has already become a normal occurrence in their class so much that they would be more surprised if a day finished without the two yelling at each other.

“Hmm, what should these beautiful people sing?” Venti ruffles both students’ hairs, “Oh, I know! What about a classic High School Musical song; What I’ve Been Looking For! D’you guys know that? It’s hard to believe, what I cou—”

Scaramouche flashed a fake smile, “Yes, Sir. We do.”

“Why did I even get paired with this stupid bowl head.” Mona grumbles under her breath, the indigo-haired boy violently whipping his head towards her and glaring.

Dear Gods, please let them exit this auditorium without carrying a dead body or two, Lumine silently prayed to herself.

“Let’s just get this over with,” Scaramouche sighs as he rested his elbow on the piano, “Come on, Sucrose. Start playing.”

The green-haired girl flinches and follows the order, the joyful intro of the song filling the halls of the auditorium—contrasting the face of Scaramouche as he gazed at Mona; the boy looked like he was looking at some pest (that’s how he probably saw Mona normally, though). Venti swayed happily, a suspicious smile slapped against his lips.

It's hard to believe that I couldn't see,” Surprisingly, Scaramouche has a nice voice—he turns to look at Mona again and scowled, “You were always there beside me.

Thought I was alone, with no one to hold,” The latter dramatically holds herself as she made her way to the other end of the piano before dropping her elbow in pure annoyance and returning the disgusted look that Scaramouche was giving her, “But you were always there beside me.

They are not seriously doing this right now.

This feeling's like no other,” Their voices, however, sounded wonderful as they blended naturally—even though they were kinda' shouting at each other, “I want you to know.

Nevermind, now they’re giving each other death threats using their eyes, “I've never had someone that knows me like you do,”

“Are they,” It hurt Lumine’s eyes the more she looked at the (couple) two. “Are they seriously fighting right now?”

Paimon’s eyes were clouded with worry, “I… I guess they are.”

“Mona looks like she’s a minute away from lifting the piano and slamming it into Scara’s face.” Childe’s comment made almost everyone whip their heads towards him. What the fuck?

The two continued to sing, their voices not missing a single note—Gods, they are so competitive. They wouldn’t hesitate to smack each other (literally) just to be on top. Jean said that they’ve been alternating in the first spot since then, actually. Whoever gets to be in the first spot shoves the proof to the other’s face, usually complemented by mocking.

I've never had someone as good for me as you,” Scaramouche’s smile was faker than a TikToker’s diamond necklace as he leaned closer to Mona, to which the latter returned, “No one like you.”

Somebody save Sucrose from them. The poor girl looked like she was about to cry.

So lonely before I finally found what I've been looking for,

Wait, since when did they inch closer? Now they’re an arm’s length away and can probably start pulling each other’s hair—the thought made a shiver run down Lumine’s spine. She doesn’t want to go back to the guidance office after what happened last time (Instead of making up, the two fought in the office even more that resulted to the whole class getting a warning). Ugh, now they’re scat singing while taunting each other using their eyes.

What’s up with these two?

Just when Lumine was thinking about how great they sounded together, Mona had to turn it up a notch by shifting from a normal scat to runs. Oh, my Gods. Scaramouche looked so offended when she turned her back at him and kept going—the girl was feeling herself! Now he’s the one who looks like he’s a note away from lifting the piano and Hulk-smashing it on Mona. Lumine swore she saw how his eyebrow twitched all the way from her seat.

“I call dibs on standing near the guidance office’s door,” Kaeya suddenly comments, earning groans and various violent reactions from the others.

Mona faced Scaramouche as her improvised runs approached its ending, her eyes suddenly free from irritation—she looked, uh, how would Lumine describe it—she looked like she wasn’t even looking at Scaramouche at all; it was as if she was looking at somebody else. The girl then proceeded to bite her lower lip and smirk as she hummed. Lumine’s jaw dropped once her eyes turned to Scaramouche,

He was flustered.
