Chapter Text
“So, this is all that remains of Rose Quartz’ army?” Jasper surveyed the area below her. The Earth was just the same as last she saw it, utterly disgusting. None of these gems showed any potential, just a couple of misfits. However, Jasper recognized one of the gems in the lineup who shook her to the core, it was someone who she hadn’t seen in many years. “What are you doing here!?”
“Hello, Jasper.” Pearl said curtly, clearly attempting to hide herself as her companions looked on in confusion.
“This is where you’ve been all this time? In league with Rose Quartz? well...even if it's you I won’t hold back!” Jasper was furious, but she couldn’t help but remember what they used to have.

Jasper knew it was wrong, but what could she do? Pearl’s lips on her own gave her a sweet feeling in her chest. It was almost worth it to nearly shatter herself daily for the sake of victory. She would do anything for her Diamond, but if she found out that Jasper was sneaking out of the barracks to see her Pearl. It would surely get Jasper shattered, but Pearl’s touch made her almost forget that fact.
The room they were in was cold and dark, their gems the only light illuminating the pink of the room. Pearl sat atop the arm of Pink Diamond’s throne, the diamond herself was currently engaged in a meeting with the others. Pearl had beckoned her over earlier in the day to tell her. Pearl looked down at her from Pink Diamond’s throne with a look of fondness and satisfaction, lightly running her fingers through Jasper’s hair. The two of them rarely got such a moment together, a war was raging, and Jasper was stationed at the front lines since she emerged. Pearl’s delicate touch sent a shiver down Jasper’s spine. Her kiss was mesmerizing and intoxicating and she wanted to melt right into it, but doing so would drag Pearl down on top of her. Such a noise would surely get the two of them caught, but what a vision to see. The life of a quartz was filled with danger and roughness, but Pearl’s softness was like a heaven she could have only dreamed of reaching. The only form of intimacy she allowed herself. Jasper was made to be a soldier, but the way Pearl said her name made Jasper consider that she might have been there for much more.
When they began this, the two of them attended one of Pink Diamond’s balls, the war had just begun and Pink Diamond wanted to honor those soldiers that fought for her against the rebels. Pearl was dismissed once the festivities began, and it was there where Jasper ran into her. The two of them talked for some time, and Jasper was immediately taken with her. She had kissed Pearl in the heat of the moment, only dumb luck prevented the two of them from getting caught then and there. It was then that Pearl whispered where she would be after the ball’s festivities. This Pearl had a mischievous streak, which only drew Jasper to her even more.
The sounds of their lips were the only noise that could be heard in the throne room, besides for the muffled voices of the Diamonds in the other room. Pearl withdrew her lips, causing Jasper’s to yearn for their return. “Why don’t you join me up here?” Pearl cooed, sending a chill down Jasper’s spine.
“I..I couldn’t.” Jasper jumped away from the throne.
Pearl responded with a wry smile; “It’s alright, what my Diamond doesn’t know won’t hurt her.” The smaller gem ran her hand along Jasper’s chin, drawing her in.
Jasper babbled like a pebble as she meekly crawled up to the throne. If she wasn’t already going to be shattered, this would be a grievous offence in of itself. Pearl slid down onto her lap, throwing her arms around Jasper’s neck, pressing sweet kisses to it. “Now, don’t you feel special? You and I are both looked down on in this world aren’t we?”
“The diamonds know what they’re doing.” Jasper answered confidently, as if this were some sort of trick question. Pearl’s expression noticeably deflated as Jasper said those words; “Did I do something wrong?”
Pearl sighed, “no.”
Jasper kissed the back of Pearl’s hand gently, before kissing her neck in kind. Jasper’s kisses became harder and more intense, she was getting carried away; “Be careful, don’t leave any marks;” Pearl warned, bringing the quartz back to reality. From there, Jasper took great care as to not mar Pearl’s skin, as it would surely cause some alarm. Jasper felt so alone compared to the other quartzes. She couldn’t drive each previous encounter with Pearl out of her mind, causing her combat to become sloppy. This Pearl had Jasper wrapped around her little finger, and she was all too aware of it.
When they parted, Jasper pressed her head into Pearl’s chest as the smaller gem ran her fingers through the quartz’ mane. “I’d do anything for you;” Jasper whispered; “Even leave the authority behind.” Pearl simply laughed, but Jasper meant it.

All of these years later, Jasper had defeated Rose Quartz’ army, but Pearl’s reappearance complicated things. There she sat, in front of Jasper in a cell. “You…”
“Not now Jasper,” Pearl turned away from her.
“You said we shouldn’t see each other anymore...and yet, you betrayed your home, your diamond? For her shatterer??” Jasper was furious.
“You wouldn’t understand Jasper.”
“Oh, I understand enough. You abandoned me, and you abandoned your diamond.” Jasper remembered when she would have abandoned it all for Pearl, she had thought about their time together ever since, her disappearance fueled her. But realizing where she had gone outraged her. Jasper felt betrayed, and utterly alone. “Did our time together mean nothing to you?”
“It's over Jasper.” Pearl shut her down without so much as looking her in the eyes.
“Fine. Just sit there, if that’s what you want.”

Rose Quartz’ army was nearly defeated, the war almost won. But she returned to Pearl having just suffered a large upset defeat. Jasper was beaten, but not broken. “Our diamond will win out in the end, I just know it.”
“You look like you’re hurting Jasper.” Pearl placed a kiss on Jasper’s cheek. Pressing another one on her lips.
“I feel better now that you’re here.” Jasper brought Pearl closer, resting her forehead on her gem. “You’re lucky you don’t have to deal with this war.”
“Yes...lucky.” Pearl cradled Jasper’s cheeks with her hands, Jasper ran her hand along the back of Pearl’s neck. After a quick kiss, Pearl pulled away.
“Is everything alright?”
Pearl rested her hands on Jasper’s shoulders. Jasper could see that Pearl wasn’t looking her in the eye; “Jasper...I’m sorry...we can’t keep doing this…”
“What? I can do more…” Pearl’s statement hurt more than any blow she received in the battle.
“I can’t abandon...my diamond...I hope you can understand.”
After this, Pink Diamond was shattered, and in Jasper’s mind Pearl along with her.

Losing her Diamond and Pearl at the same time drove Jasper to fight, attaining even the notice and praise of Yellow Diamond; when the Diamonds attacked the Earth for the final time, Jasper thought that all of it was over, but still she trained. With Pearl’s utter rejection of her, Jasper stormed off, blowing straight past the Peridot she traveled with. At the very least she would be coming back with Rose Quartz herself...or so she thought.
