Chapter Text

Hawks stood at the entrance to the Commission president’s office. He was here to be briefed about his newest mission. Of course, the president wouldn’t talk to him, she thought he was scum, so a lower ranked official would be the one talking to him. the door opened, a commission employee leaning out.

“Hawks, the President will see you now.” Hawks. The name that the commission had chosen for him years ago. He used to be called Keigo, but the commission thought it unnecessary. Why did a weapon need a name? He still remembered though. He still remembered that name. Sometimes, at night when he was alone, he would mutter his name to himself. It became something of a ward against the bad memories. It was a reminder that there still was a person below the weapon. He was still human. He hoped that maybe, someone would save him from his suffering.

Hawks shook himself (mentally, not visibly – if the commission thought he still had some bird instinct in him, they would hurt him more). He had a meeting. He walked inside the room, standing at attention. The commission president sat there, looking down on him as though he was trash. Hawks didn’t know her name (she thought a piece of filth like him didn’t deserve to know), but he knew her quirk. It allowed her to store the pain she inflicted on others, and release it onto those she touched. She had only used it on him twice (not wanting to touch him unnecessarily) and those had been the most pain he had ever experienced. She had obviously saved up for those, inflicting enough pain that it made him feel phantom pains for the rest of the month. It was like getting stabbed a thousand times in one spot, and it was enough to knock him unconscious.

“You have a new mission, Hawks. The League of Villains has already hit UA and gotten away with it. I need you to infiltrate their forces. Any and all information is needed.” The commission agent stated. “Any questions?” Hawks shook his head, knowing that if he spoke, he would be punished. “Good. You are dismissed.”

Hawks walked out of the room, wondering, despite himself, if maybe these villains could help him.

Izuku sat in his seat, looking up at Aizawa. His bandages were off.

“Woah! Aizawa sensei! Are you sure you can have your bandages off?” Kirishima called.

“Yes. The old lady went overboard with her healing. Anyway. Onto more important things. The sports festival, while it may have been fun, was for you to gain internship offers from pro heroes.” Aizawa said. He pointed to the whiteboard, which turned on and showed a list of the names. Izuku looked up, scanning for his name. If he had been drinking, he would have spit it all out.

Down at the bottom of all the offers was Sero, with 14 offers. Kirishima had 60, Mina had 78, Yaoyorozu had 105, Iida had 256, Kaminari had 325. Bakugou had 406 offers, Tokoyami had 423, while Todoroki had 2756. Uraraka had 3428. He, on the other hand, had 5278 offers.

That meant at least 5000 heroes thought he was interesting. The old timeline’s Midoriya would have fainted. He, however, was a new Midoriya, and therefore was (relatively) unfazed.

“5000 offers? That’s amazing!” Mina called out.

“You’re so cool!” Sero called out. “I only got 14 though.”

“Three students with over a thousand offers? Awesome!” Kaminari yelled.

“I probably only got mine because of my father.” Todoroki mumbled.

“But why did I not get any offers? My performance was exquisite!” Aoyama yelled, throwing glitter into the air to make himself sparkle.

“You didn’t even make it past the first round.” Tokoyami said, deadpanning.

Bakugou was still staring, shocked at the list. “WHAT THE HELL! HOW DID FOUR PEOPLE GET ABOVE ME! FUCKING EXTRAS!” he looked over towards Izuku, head turning at an uncomfortable looking angle. “AND DON’T THINK YOU’RE BETTER THAN ME USELESS DEKU YOU FUCKING BUNNY RABBIT!”

Izuku tried to hide his flinch. It hurt him to see that he was still scared of Bakugou, even after all of this time. He looked over towards Uraraka, who was looking happier than she had been in many days. He sighed, and started his quirk training again. Passively holding One for All in his body allowed him to strengthen it, even without moving. He cranked One for All up to 15% (the highest he could hold it without sparks) and moved up to collect his internship offers.

His desk broke. There was so much paper that his desk broke. It made him question why they bothered to use paper anyway (with technology advanced so far). This entire stack of paper could be compressed into a millimetre square piece of technology, but they used paper. And now they had to pay for a new desk. It makes him wonder how weak those desks were, anyway, breaking from 9kg. he sighed, and sat on the floor to check through the offers. It was unlikely any heroes could help him grow, but it would be good to check. He cracked his knuckles. It was going to be a long day.

Izuku stood up and groaned. Sitting on the floor for 3 hours was not good for your back. Luckily, he had made it through all heroes starting with A to J. he had picked a few heroes from that list, including Best Jeanist and Endeavor, who could improve his skills, but over 1500 offers had been discarded. Through the process, he had gone through a highlighter marking the offers he might consider, which were over 200. He sighed, popping his neck. This would have been so much easier if it was on a device.

Izuku staggered as he walked ‘home’. Yes, he could lift refrigerators over his head, and he could even pick up All Might, but 9 kg on his back still affected him. there was also the mindset that he wasn’t training, and therefore should be able to relax. However, he still had 3000 offers to get through. he sighed. how did Todoroki get through this last year? Oh. Wait. His father probably made him go to his own agency. He had it a lot easier. Izuku continued staggering on.

Izuku lay on his bed, groaning with satisfaction. He pulled his backpack up, and lifted the offers out of it. Some spilled onto the bed, but he checked through them, and they were small time heroes that wouldn’t help him with his quirks, so he put them on the floor.

“Izuku, I’ll make you some dinner, okay?” His mother called out.

“Okay!” He called back, faking a happy voice (something he had perfected over years of bullying). He cracked his knuckles, and set to work on his offers.

Izuku sighed happily as he ate. He may not love his birth mother anymore (the true mother to him was Kurogiri), but he wouldn’t deny that she was good at cooking. He looked over to the mounds of paper that were the offers he was considering. He had finished looking over the rest, and there were still over 500. He had narrowed the offers down to a tenth of the original. He reached over, picking up 50 or so. He should be able to narrow it down to 10 within maybe half an hour. He scanned the heroes name. Anaconda. The snake hero. Had a snake quirk that allowed him to stretch up to lengths of 10 meters. Might be useful in fighting slippery enemies. A glance to his ranking, however, and he was set on the floor. 1000th. That would mean he wouldn’t be as good as Tiger. The next was Anemone. A hair quirk that allowed her to stretch and control it completely, like Blade. He put her on the discard pile as well. Ardour. Quirk allowed him to incite vigour and courage into his allies. How did he get past the check? Next. Aurora. Allowed them to control different kinds of energy. Ranked 675th. Next. Auk. Had a bird quirk. Could fly. Ranked 789th. Next. Best Jeanist. Quirk allowed him to control strings. Top ten. Would help with black whip. Will consider. Black Mamba. Poison quirk. Skipped. Izuku sighed as he looked at the remaining hero offers. This would take some time.

Izuku looked at the massive pile of paper in front of him. He then looked at the much smaller pile next to him. he grinned. It had taken over 8 hours, but he had narrowed the list down to . The list was made up of Best Jeanist, Dark Knight (a shadow controlling hero), Edgeshot, Endeavor, Fat Gum, Gang Orca, Ghost (an invisibility quirk user who really should have chosen Hagakure – could help with stealth), Hawks (he might go with him. Key work won’t), Kamui Woods (again for black whip), Miruko, Shishido (a lion quirk known for fighting brutally) and Quasar (who could control sunlight – extremely powerful solar emissions).

He now had to choose between them. Best Jeanist could help with black whip, but he had heard from Bakugou, and it was likely that he was chosen for how brutal he was with his opponents. Dark Knight, now that he thought of it, had much less ability than he originally thought. Edgeshot could help with stealth but not much else. Endeavor was strong, but he wouldn’t learn much more from him than the last time around. Fat Gum… he wouldn’t help much. Gang Orca wouldn’t help with close combat like he liked. Hawks – no. Kamui Woods is relatively new, and therefore won’t help as much. Ghost wouldn’t help. Quasar hasn’t got much combat experience. Shishido would be good, but Miruko was stronger, faster, stealthier, went on more patrols, was really good in a fight, had better senses, so it would be harder to sneak up on her.

He smirked. It looks like he has his choice.
