Chapter 14: xxv. sweater.

Chapter Text

Lena shivers as Kara traces her lips up along her skin. After her sixth high of the night, she doesn’t know if she can take more. Kara had been off-world for the entirety of her birthday weekend, and her girlfriend was determined to make it up to her.

The first thing Kara did when she got back was, well…Lena. Five hours under the red sunlamps later, and Lena is fairly certain if Kara decides to touch her again, she will literally wither away and dissolve into a thousand tiny molecules of lust, and just disappear into the ether. So, she had pushed Kara’s head away with a breathless gasp.

“Mmm, and happy birthday to you two, too,” Kara breathes out, pressing kisses to her breasts, she can hear the smirk in her voice, lips nipping along Lena’s sternum.

Lena snorts. “You’re such a boob girl.”

“Not my fault you have great boobs,” Kara quips back, tongue laving over Lena’s nipple, eliciting a gasp.

“Fuck, Kara, I can’t-”

“Okay, okay, no more. I’ll stop, promise, promise,” Kara whispers, pressing one last kiss to her breasts, littering kisses all over Lena’s neck before finally coming up and pressing a gentle kiss to the corner of Lena’s mouth.

“Hi.”

“Hi.” Lena’s hand comes up to cradle Kara’s cheek, reaching up a bit to press a real kiss on her lips.

“Good birthday?” Kara murmurs, against her palm, kissing the skin there.

“Best fucking birthday.”

Kara bursts into laughter, “Good. That’s good.”

She chances a glance to their nightstand; 4:58 a.m, the numbers blink back at her. Sure enough, the early sunlight begins filtering into the gaps of the closed curtains, blending into the red hue of the room. It illuminates Lena in a glow that Kara can’t find the words to describe.

She looks ethereal like this—soft and blissed-out in Kara’s arms.

She feels Lena’s hands wander along her hips to loosen the harness.

“Thirsty?” Lena asks, brushing the stray blonde hair that had stuck to Kara’s sweaty forehead. Kara flops to her side, tries to shimmy her way out of the leather.

“Mm, yeah. Sorry, I knocked over our water bottle.”

“It’s okay,” Lena says, before smirking, “not your fault I like it hard.”

Kara sucks in a sharp breath at that. How is that she should be exhausted beyond measure yet a few simple choice words from Lena riles her up again?

Lena chuckles when she sees her flush, boops her nose as she sits up, “I’ll go down. Get you a glass of water, want anything else?”

“Just water, please.”

“Okay,” Lena says, smiling into their kiss, and then she’s pulling away, and standing up and—

Kara’s brain short circuits into a continuous chanting of, Hate to watch her leave, love to see her go.

Lena disappears into their walk-in closet, Kara’s eyes tracking all over milky skin. She stretches her arms over her head, reaches over to flick the red sunlamps off, and superspeeds to open the curtains.

She closes her eyes for a moment as the sunlight fully crawls into their room, warmth caressing her skin, making her feel alive.

Lena pads back into the space, barefoot, wearing an oversized blue sweater—

Oh.

Supergirl-blue-kind-of-blue.

The sleeves fully dwarf her hands, the hem just touching her thighs, Lena turns around and oh-

It’s a Supergirl sweater.

Lena’s wearing an oversized Supergirl sweater, with Kara’s family crest front and center.

She’s probably not wearing anything underneath it.

Oh, Rao.

“Like what you see?” Lena purrs, giving Kara an impromptu twirl.

“You have no idea,” Kara almost groans, because what the fuck? Super merchandise or any brand of clothing with the El crest on it, didn’t sit well with her when she first came to Earth. She hated how Kal-El was strutting around with that emblem on his chest without even knowing what it meant to Kara. How every teen boy in her school used to wear the S on their chest as if they’re even worthy.

But-

Lena.

Rao, Lena wearing a Supergirl sweater is just—

“You have Jess to thank for this, by the way,” Lena says, almost absentmindedly, as she turns around, once Kara’s flush has calmed somewhat. Lena walks over to their dresser. She’s biting a hair tie between her teeth, gathering her hair in a loose bun when she turns again, “I mentioned you were away for my birthday, and she gave me this as a birthday gift.”

There’s an electric almost primal heat buzzing underneath Kara’s skin at the sight of Lena, right now. Her hands fist their sheets, teeth sinking into her lower lip. Now that she’s seen it she can’t stop thinking about it.

She imagines Lena walking with her down their Guildhalls back at home, donning a silky Krytonian robe, the El crest branded just above where her heart is.

It’s something she’s always thought about in fleeting moments. Right, when she’s about to sleep, and she’s in that weird gap of slumber and wakefulness. When she forgets Krypton is gone, for a second she believes she’s sleeping back in her chambers, Lena snoring softly in her arms. The vision continues in her dreams, and by the time she wakes it’s gone. By the time she wakes up, Lena would be there; greeting her with a smile, paired with those emerald eyes, and dreams of a dead planet are immediately forgotten.

It’s sort of silly if Kara gives too much thought about it. It’s a sweater for Rao’s sake. Just cotton. Jess probably gave it to her as some sort of gag gift. But Rao, it’s the closest thing to Kara’s deepest longings.

Lost in her thoughts, she doesn’t even notice Lena leaving the room.

Before Kara knows it she’s bolting out of bed, and superspeeding down to where Lena is.

Lena’s pouring a glass of water, when Kara wraps around her from behind. She lets out a small gasp at the sudden contact. “Kara!” she exclaims, the water spilling a bit on the counter. Kara’s fingers digging into the soft cotton covering Lena’s hip. Her nose burying to dark hair.

She’s so, so, soft.

“M’sorry,” she mumbles, plucking the glass of water out of Lena’s hands, she sets it down gently. Her hand comes to rest at Lena’s throat, tilts her jaw up.

“Kara?” Lena whispers, breath hitching.

“Mmm?”

“I thought you were thirsty?”

Kara smirks against her skin.

“Oh, I am.”

Lena’s gasp echo in the empty kitchen as Kara sweeps her off her feet and into her arms.
