Chapter Text
Life went on. The farmer was certainly a new aspect of it, but it didn’t impact much. Or at least, that’s what Harvey thought. He was expecting a day like any other, but as always, the farmer had another idea. The door of the clinic opened and in came the farmer. You were significantly less muddy than you were the day before, but you still had the decency to clean your boots off. In a less bouncy manner, he noticed. While you did so, you offered a hearty smile and said,
“ Hey Harve! “
Harvey couldn’t help but smile back. You were just so full of energy and vitality. It was refreshing. Since he worked at a clinic, the energy was always tense and cheerless. It was nice to have a change in atmosphere for once. He waved slightly,
“Oh, hello there, y/n! It's a beautiful day, isn't it? I wish I had less work to do. Do you need anything? ”
He suspected that maybe you needed some medicine or muscle relaxers. Working on a farm is hard work, especially that old plot. There were many times where he had to patch up Abigail or one of the kids after playing on that land. It looked more like woods than a farm. The farmer’s smile turned sheepish as you shook your head. You were holding something behind your back.
“ Not in particular! I just wanted to stop by and say hi. Also I wanted to give you this! “
You set a hot cup of coffee down on the counter. Harvey felt something in his stomach flop as he noticed what it was. His face split into a delighted grin.
“ It's for me? This is my favorite stuff! It's like you read my mind. ”
The farmer choked back a laugh, seemingly glad to see him so enthusiastic over a cup of coffee. You put your hands in your pockets and leaned on your heels.
“ Hah! Hardly. I just figured that you would need a pick-me-up so I stopped by Gus’s and snagged this for you. I noticed you weren’t doing the best yesterday. “
Your expression shifted to something that seemed to be a mix of concern and curiosity. You were staring directly at him. Those eyes just seemed to pry open anything he ever had hidden. It made it hard to hold himself back. No one had ever cared this much. Now it was his turn to not make eye contact.
“ Ah, well, you know how it is being the only doctor in the town. I feel responsible for the health of this whole community... it's kind of stressful. “
He rubbed his neck, glancing back up at you. You seemed genuinely disheartened for him. His stomach sank. He didn’t like that look at all. He missed that bouncing bundle of joy that had first walked in. He felt the need to fix this. Maybe he could put a spin on something to make it better. He waved his hand nonchalantly as if he was clearing the air of any discomfort,
“ But it's alright! It's a pretty small community, and I'm fortunate to be able to build a good relationship with my patients. “
“ Well… if you ever need someone to talk to, I’ll always be here. Just know that. “
That seemed to help somewhat, but there was still a sliver of worry played upon your face. Your eyes drifted towards the ground and Harvey could feel some of the pressure subsiding. You dusted yourself off and with that, the farmer departed. Harvey simply watched and took a sip of the now cold coffee.
