Chapter Text

Belphegor wakes to the sound of a text. Which, considering he’s muted every chat except for Beelzebub’s, is unusual. Beel doesn’t usually interrupt his naps except to make him eat and he always wakes Belphegor in person, so it must be important. He doesn’t open his eyes as he pats around for his D.D.D., pulling it closer and squinting at the screen when he turns it on. It isn’t Beel.

Satan Today at 12:23 PM

We have leftovers.

For a moment, Belphegor only stares. Another text rolls in.

Leviathan Today at 12:23 PM

FR???? OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He sighs when he realizes he’s been added to yet another group chat between his brothers, and when he checks the members, he realizes that the only one left out is Beel. Even Diavolo and Barbatos are included.

Asmodeus Today at 12:24 PM

I don’t see what’s so momentous about this?

Belphegor Today at 12:24 PM

whay si going on

Satan Today at 12:24 PM

We never have leftovers.
Sorry, Belphie. Did we wake you?

Belphegor Today at 12:24 PM

ye
s okay tho

Leviathan Today at 12:25 PM

lolololol

Asmodeus Today at 12:27 PM

I’m afraid I’m not following. We have room in the fridge for them, don’t we?

Satan Today at 12:27 PM

Yes.

Asmodeus Today at 12:27 PM

...So? What’s the problem?

Belphegor Today at 12:28 PM

wy didnt beel eat ti all

Satan Today at 12:28 PM

Exactly.
There’s something wrong. We NEVER have leftovers. Beel didn’t even try to raid the fridge last night.
I think he might be sick.

Lucifer Today at 12:32 PM

If that’s the case, someone should check up on him. It wouldn’t do if his sickness spread to the rest of the school.
Mammon, if you would?

Mammon Today at 12:33 PM

Why me????

Belphegor Today at 12:33 PM

I can do it

Lucifer Today at 12:33 PM

I wouldn’t want to interrupt your sleep schedule, Belphegor.
Though, it might be wise since you’re the closest to him… Not to mention that you two share a room.
Very well. Let us know what you find out.
Also… We missed you at breakfast. And lunch. Please try to at least make it to dinner tonight.
Beelzebub won’t always bring you something when you skip a meal.

Belphegor Today at 12:36 PM

:salute:

Diavolo Today at 12:36 PM

I’ll alert the doctors just in case.
Barbatos, you’re on cooking duty tonight, aren’t you? Could you make something healthy and easy on the stomach? Spider egg soup, perhaps?

Barbatos Today at 12:37 PM

It would be my pleasure.

Mammon Today at 12:37

Hey Belph!
Beel looked like he was going to the garden after lunch.
Thought you should know since ya need to find him and all

Belphegor Today at 12:39

:thanks:

Belphegor let his D.D.D. drop facedown on the bed with a sigh, then pressed his palms into his eyes. It would be so easy to just roll over and fall back asleep.

He stands up, tucks his pillow under his arm and his D.D.D. in his pocket, and shuffles to the door. If there’s one thing that gives him motivation to get out of bed, it’s the wellbeing of his twin brother. Unlike how Lucifer watches over them, disciplines them, and (rarely) praises them, Beel is the one they can count on to make sure they’re asleep at a reasonable time, staying healthy, and always aware that they have a shoulder to cry on if they’re ever to need one.

It’s time someone returns the favor.

As Mammon said, he finds Beel deep in the garden, crouched behind a large bush of poisonous berries that Diavolo likes to make jam out of. Belphegor opens his mouth to call to him, but pauses when he realizes that Beel is talking gently, as if coaxing a scared animal out of a corner. Curious, he inches closer until he’s right next to his twin, just in Beel’s blind spot.

“-don’t really get why you haven’t gotten any better, but that’s alright,” Beel is whispering, and Belphegor can’t see what he’s talking to. “You’re still as beautiful and important as all the others, even if you’re a little sick. So don’t give up, okay?” He reaches out, cupping his hand under a freshly watered, wilting flower to lift it up with a soft smile on his face, and.

Oh.

Belphegor doesn’t realize he’s taken out his D.D.D. to snap a picture until he hears the camera shutter. Beel jumps so bad he tips backward, barely catching himself on his hands. He turns to peer over his shoulder, blinking rapidly.

“...Did you just take a picture of me?” he asks, sounding more confused than anything. Belphegor shrugs, turning the screen around for Beel to see.

“I thought it was a good picture opportunity,” he says. It’s not a lie - the picture looks too good to be accidental, Beel’s profile surrounded with plants and gentle light illuminating his soft expression, wilted flower before him. Beel studies it for a moment, brows furrowed, then lifts his eyes to Belphegor’s face. “I can send it to you if you want to post it.”

“Yeah… maybe later.” Beel glances at the flower one last time before he climbs to his feet, tapping his fingers against the back of his wrist. “Did you need something? Oh… I forgot to bring you lunch, didn’t I? Sorry.” He frowns, gripping his arm too tight, and Belphegor shakes his head.

“I don’t care about that,” he says, frowning right back. “I came to check up on you. Satan thinks you’re sick since you didn’t finish everything on the table.” Beel blinks. Belphegor shoves his D.D.D. in his pocket before touching Beel’s forehead with the back of his hand, testing his temperature. “Well, you don’t feel warm. You ate just fine this morning, too, so it can’t be that bad. Still, you should probably take it easy today.”

“I’m not sick.” He phrases it like a question, leaning away from Belphegor’s touch. “I didn’t feel all that hungry today, that’s all. You don’t need to worry.” At Belphegor’s look, he smiles. “I’m fine. Honest.”

His stomach growls.

“Right,” Belphegor says slowly, feeling a muted pang in his own stomach. He doesn't believe that smile for a second. “There’s still some lunch left over. We can eat it together.” He doesn’t give Beel a chance to protest, yawning as he turns to leave. After a moment, Beel follows, knuckles white around his wrist.

I found him talking to the plants
He’s okay, I got him to come eat the leftovers with me

Asmodeus Today at 13:50

Aww! That’s so sweet!
I’m glad to see he’s alright ❤️️

Mammon Today at 13:50

Hey! I’m the one who told him he should talk to the flowers!
Looks like he took the great Mammon’s advice!

Lucifer Today at 13:51

Thank you for checking on him, Belphegor. I appreciate it.
If it’s not too much trouble, could you make sure he rests well tonight? Better to be safe than sorry.

Belphegor Today at 13:52

:salute:

Satan Today at 13:56

I didn’t think Beel knew we had a garden…
