The shot was simple, Peter, in what appeared to be his bedroom, sitting calmly in front of the video camera.
“Hey guys!” He waved. “This is gonna be a pretty quick video, I just needed to tell you all a little something then be on my way!”
He giggled at his own joke, the nerd.
“I’m getting…” he waited, pausing for dramatic effect, “TOP SURGERY!!!”
The words appeared across the screen in Comic Sans, fireworks exploding around them.
“For those of you who don’t know, top surgery is when a trans man has his breasts removed. Yes, you heard me right! These tits,” he gestured at his chest, despite the fact that he was wearing a binder, “are getting chopped right off. I will have no more boobs! Zilch. Nada. None! Captain America will have bigger badonkadonks than me!”
He smiled, then obviously shifted into a more serious tone.
“But for real, guys, this is big. As you know, before my dad adopted me, I never had much money. I didn’t think I would ever get the chance to have top surgery, and the fact that it's happening so early in my life is… amazing. I really want to thank you all for everything you have done for me, supporting me through all the craziness that was the past few months. My life is so much better because of the people around me today, and it truly means so much to me.”
He took a deep breath, getting ready for something big.
“And, because of that, I want to give a little something back. I didn’t think I would ever get top surgery. Some days, I wasn’t even sure if I would be able to stay on T. That had a very big effect on every part of my life, especially my mental health. So, I will be starting the Ben Parker Foundation , a charity dedicated to trans healthcare, both physical and mental. My uncle Ben is not here with me today for this big step, but he was the one to buy me testosterone. He was the one who burned all of my old dresses with me. He was the very first person I ever came out to, and even in death, he is still with me through this. Hopefully, he can also be with all of you.
