Katsuki had a friend that he could only see at night.
At the age of 9, he never found that fact odd. He would never see Eijirou in the daytime, he’d only ever got to hang out with him when the sun would go down.
His parents thought he was imaginary, since Eijirou would run away when his parents would come out to meet him. He’d always come back when it was just him in the backyard of Katsuki’s house.
“How come you run away when my parents wanna meet you?” Katsuki asked, letting his fingers run through the soft grass.
“It’s cause I don’t want them to be afraid of me! You know what I am, don’t you?” Eijirou blew a bang away from his eye, but it fell back into place.
“Of course I do! You’re a kid just like me!” Katsuki rolled his eyes, he was far, far from stupid.
“Yes, but I’m also a creature of the night!”
“Like an owl?”
Kirishima laughed and shook his head, “I’m a vampire.”
Katsuki’s eyes went wide, the stars in eyes matching the clear night sky as he hurled an onslaught of questions at the boy.
“Do you drink blood?!”
“Is that why you can’t walk in the light?!”
“Is that why you’re teeth look like a shark?!”
“Can you fly?!”
“Oh! Oh! Do you know any other monsters?
Kirishima put out small hands, signaling for the blonde to stop, and the other did. However, he still looked anxious to know.
“I don’t drink blood, I eat red stuff out of things! When I’m older, the sun won’t hurt but I have to wait!” Kirishima started counting on his fingers, “Yes, my teeth look like that ‘cause I’m a vampire. I can fly a little but I can do more when I grow up and yes, my family is full of monsters!”
“Can I see?” Katsuki cocked his head sideways, Kirishima gaining the same expression.
“See what?”
“See you fly!”
“Oh..” Kirishima’s cheeks got the slightest bit red, as if he were embarrassed. Katsuki pushed at his shoulder.
“Come on! I wanna see! Do it!” Katsuki prodded and finally, Eijirou stood up with an exasperated “Alright!”
The small vampire closed his eyes, in fact, squeezing them shut with concentration. His face got red in the light as he started to float, only slightly, off the ground.
He dropped back down onto his feet with a thud, trying to catch his breath.
“That was so cool!” Katsuki was excited more than ever, the sparkles in his eyes growing bigger and bigger by the second.
“Really?” Kirishima sat back down in his spot, “I don’t think so. I can’t float too high cause I’m not grown up enough yet.” Kirishima wore a small pout, putting a fist on his cheek in dejection.
“Yeah, your powers may be wimpy now but you just gotta grow up! That shouldn’t be too-“ Katsuki turned to the sound of the sliding door opening, his mom stood on the patio deck.
“Katsuki, It’s time to come in for dinner!”
“Ma! Cant you see I’m in the middle of talking!” He spat, getting a bewildered look from her.
“Talking to who?”
He looked back, seeing that his friend was no where to be seen.
This was a regular occurrence, his friends would always leave when anyone showed up. That was probably for the better.
“Uh, my imaginary friend!” He nodded, getting up from the grass and coming towards his mother.
“Oh, well i hope he comes for dinner at some point!” She ushered him inside.
He looked back for seconds, seeing large red eyes in the shadows of the dark and a small hand waving at him.
“He’s a little shy.”
When the moon fell in love with the sun,
all was golden in the sky
All was golden when the day met the night
