"Welcome to the Madrigals"

Chapter 2: Marriage

Summary:

You can see that there are some Colombian traditions in this for those who are confused! The wedding takes place 5 months after the proposal.

Chapter Text

Being engaged meant the second step to becoming a Madrigal officially, and everyone loved you! The engagement was the talk of the town after the engagement party as all the kids just couldn’t stop thinking about what gift your children would get (we haven’t even gotten to that stage yet!). You moved into Camilo’s room in the casita as they introduced one more member into their family.

It was a change, to say the least, as you had to get used to Mirabel knocking on the door every morning and singing, she was a serious early bird. You had some amount of cooking experience, so you’d chip in on breakfast in the morning, which was greatly appreciated. Isabela was a sucker for your hot chocolate.

Camilo was glad that you were adjusting greatly, seeing you get along with every member of his family, which he loved very much, was quite refreshing. You were doing your routine exercises with Luisa when you saw another Luisa doing sit-ups on the floor and struggling very greatly. You giggled and dropped your dumbbell, walking over to see Camilo giving up. “Amateur.” Luisa teased, picking up a large rock in a show of her strength.

“I tried. And I’ve tried enough.” He turned back into his original self to kiss your cheek. “I think I’m done too for the day, I need a shower.” You added. “I could go on for hours! Seeya at dinner.” She went back to her push-ups. “You smell fine to me, and I came over to ask you about our plans for the wedding.” Camilo said, he was excited, and so was Dolores obviously since she’d always pop her head through a door at the mention of a wedding.

“Did I hear wedding plans?” And there she was with her husband Mariano. “Alright, alright, I just need to get myself cleaned up first. Then we can talk about wedding plans.”

From what you remember, Dolores’ wedding was the best Madrigal wedding ever, and Camilo wanted that to change, but you weren’t exactly trying to be competitive. He just wanted this wedding to be historical and worth remembering, and you definitely wanted that too, but you had to remind him that it was just you and him. As long as the family was there, that was all that mattered.

Both of you were heading to bed when he turned to face you. “How about a bird show?” Camilo suggested. You laughed, “That’s not a bad idea, but my mother is afraid of birds.” He put on a silly thinking face, sliding out of the bed to pace around the room. It was a habit you noticed about him, it helped him to think better. “Lots of flowers, wait.” He turned to you, you were lying on your back and watching him with a small smile. “We should do the whole thing at the church.”

“ That’s tradition. White flowers?” You asked, “We need some color, yellow and red.” He added. “Don’t forget the Guayabera suits.” You chimed in. “The cake definitely is chocolate.” You raised an eyebrow. “Maybe it’s time for bed. You lost me at chocolate mi amor.” He scoffed dramatically. “Your loss. We can stick to traditional wine cake then.”

Camilo hopped back into bed, pulling you into his chest. “I remember what you said, about it not being a competition,” He started, “I just want it to be perfect.” “It will be perfect. You and I will be there. And our family will be there too.” You reassured him. “And the food,” he said.

“Can’t forget the food. ”

The day of the wedding was here, and you were scrambling the night before after the serenata You chose   Mirabel to be the godmother, and Camilo trusted Mariano with godfather duties Your mother gave you her dress,   telling you how beautiful you looked in it. You reminded her of her younger days

Both of you slept in separate rooms since it was bad luck to see each other, but you craved Camilo’s touch at such a stressful time. He wanted to hold you too, but he knew the wait would be worth it. He started crying at some point. “Aye   chico,” His father watched the tears roll down his slightly reddened cheeks. “Happy?” Felix asked. Camilo nodded . " I remember when it was my day.” Mariano reminisced, “All I can say is, don’t tell her no to anything, never say no to your bride on the wedding day.” Felix agreed readily to that.

Camilo laughed , " I got that one down already but what if she says no to me? ”  He playfully questions. “You’ve failed my friend.” The godfather quips.   An uproar of laughter resonated through the room.

Dolores was playing with your hair to calm your nerves;   Mirabel was crying for you more than you were for yourself.   “I can’t wait until we fix your hair and everything, then you put the beautiful dress on.”   Isabela was admiring your dress, putting flowers here and there, until she noticed a small problem. “I think there’s a hole in the dress?” Your head snaps over to her, as everyone else’s does. “For generations, we’ve had that dress and now that I’m supposed to wear it, there’s a hole?!” “We can probably stitch it up, no worries !”  Dolores suggests.

“Or you can use mine.” Pepa walks in with a cup of tea. Your eyes light up, “Really Ms. Pepa ?”  She nods, handing you the tea. “Of course, I’ll fetch it right now so you can try it! You’ll look like a doll in it!”   A rainbow forms over her head. Your eyes begin to droop, not even taking a sip yet before you decided that you had enough tea. “I think I need rest for tomorrow.” You whispered. “Ok you heard her, everyone get out!” “Luisa you’re too loud!” The girls whisper shouted.

Your hands ran across the   bedroom walls of the casita, almost like you’re communicating with it. “Today will be a wonderful day.” You told yourself, the sound of the trees rustling outside along with the sweet scent of nature calmed you down. Tying the knot is a huge event so you want it to go perfectly with no issues .  Isabela was fixing your makeup, very light makeup since your natural beauty was unrivaled.

Hearing the commotion outside of the room made you antsy, and you swore that you heard your fiancé's voice. Camilo was maneuvering around the moving bodies to look for Antonio who was holding the rings. Mariano ran off to wherever and trusted Antonio with the job. He was a responsible 12-year-old, but these rings were extra important so you can’t be too safe right?

Antonio was already all dressed up, so he was outside getting his animal friends to help prepare for the day. “No, don’t eat that.” The tiger dropped the rings, Camilo was mortified seeing how   the rings were being handled. “I’ll take that.” The groom picked them up, thankful that they were in perfect condition. “Hey, that was my job!” “I have a job for you lil bro, help me with my vows!” Camilo begged .

“Out of all people, me?” Antonio thought about it, seemed like a good offer. “But doesn’t that stuff come from the heart? Don’t overthink it and all that. At least that’s what dad said to Dolores when she was getting married.” He had a point, but Camilo knew he would say something stupid during a supposedly sweet moment of matrimony. He isn’t good at taking things seriously at times. “Just come with me.

“Ah ah wait! Y/N I don’t think it’s a good idea to leave the room-” “But my mother, where is she?” Mirabel tried to get you to sit back down, she saw Camilo earlier and knew that neither of you should see each other. “I-I’ll look for her, just stay here.” You sat back down with a huge sigh. She opened the door and in that small window of time, you made eye contact with your lover. You squeaked and looked away as he just stood there, admiring you

“Aye, what are you doing primo!” Mirabel closed the door as quickly as she could. “Go now, you didn’t see a thing!” She rushes him away, taking off to search for your mother. “Hey, are you ok?” Antonio stares at a spaced-out Camilo, a dopey grin plastered on his face. “Yeah, sure. Let’s go, you still need to help me think about what I’m going to say.” His little brother pouts, “Just let dad do that, I got nothing honestly.”

“Camilo it is almost time to head to the church and you aren’t in your suit? ! ” Abuela grabs him by the ear and takes him to his room. “Ah, that hurts! Sorry Abuela!” She stopped to smile at him, “You look handsome, such a fine young man.” She pinches his cheek and leaves him to get dressed—only to remember Antonio and his animals were right in the middle of the room, watching him. “Tonito? Bring those animals to your own room.”

The reception was beginning as everyone rushed to sit down in their seats. The guests were all holding a flower, one of purity, a lily. Your mother made her grand entrance, expecting to see you in her dress, she was excited. Whilst you and Camilo were absolutely nervous. Camilo finally managed to get a small paragraph or two together for his vows but decided to listen to Antonio and let some of it come from the heart completely.

The slow creak of the church door alerts everyone as they look to see the gorgeous bride and her father. Camilo looked and was even more lost for words than he was when he saw you earlier. The only thing running through your mind was “Don’t trip, don’t mess this up !”  Pepa’s dress looked like it belonged to you which seriously surprised you but not her. While your mother was slightly confused as to why you weren’t wearing her dress, she wouldn’t make a big deal out of it.

Your father gave Camilo a look ,  ‘Do not hurt her under any circumstances.' But Camilo was too lovestruck to care, he just wanted to hold you and kiss your face.   Finally, you stopped in front of your groom, and it was like magic. No longer did you feel nervous, as you began to zone out everyone else in the room. It was just you and him.

Everything went so smoothly, and Camilo almost forgot about his previous worries, until he had to do his vows. The guests looked at him expectantly, Antonio smiling at him to encourage him. “This may not be the best, and I confided in a 12-year-old for advice, probably my lowest point in life.” Everyone laughed—well except for Antonio obviously “But this is coming from the heart. I, Camilo, take you Y/N, to not only be my lifelong partner, but also my best friend, and when we get there, the mother of my children, and especially my wife. I will be there, in times of great stress and need and hardship, in times of happiness and enjoyment, in times of sickness and in times of health,” You began to cry.

“When you fail, I’ll be there, when you succeed, I’ll be there. I promise to never break my promises of love and respect, and not only will I take care of you, but I’ll take care of anyone that is important to you. And I’ll stay with you until the day that I no longer breathe. But who knows, my spirit may still be there.” Camilo finished, Mariano let out a small and impressed ‘yes’.

“I, Y/N, take you Camilo to be my husband, the father of my children, my sense of peace and safety, and my true love. On this day we are one, but I feel as if we always were,” You take his hands, they’re sweaty from nerves but warm from the love that he felt. “I will trust you, respect you, laugh with you and maybe sometimes at you. I will cry with you just like I know you would cry with me. Regardless of whatever obstacles we may go through, I want to be the best wife I can be. I give you my heart, and we can build on what we already have together.”

Everyone was close to tears at this point, which Camilo feared because he knew his mother. The both of you were prompted to kiss each other and he didn’t hesitate one bit, dragging you in and dipping you to place his lips on yours, before whispering, “Three kids?” You nodded happily. Everyone cheered as they were able to get the camera ready for a picture of the moment.
