Turning Bat the Clock

Chapter 3: Good Mornings

Chapter Text

Wednesday morning dawned bright and cold, for the first time in a long time Dick woke up well rested and ready for work.  For some reason Peter kept looking at Neal, disbelief and awe on his face before opening his mouth and then shutting it again with a shake of his head. Despite the abnormal behavior from his handler Neal enjoyed the ride to work.

Neal walked into the office refreshed and cheerful, joy once again blooming where a faded stagnate air had followed him for the past few weeks.  He made it to his desk before he slowed down enough to notice Diana and Jones staring at him.

“What, why are you looking at me like that? Did I die? Maybe, I can actually join the club this time. But seriously why are you three looking at me so strange?” Neal smiled at his teammates.

          “YOU ARE NIGHTWING!” Jones squealed.

“What the crap happened yesterday, how do you know that?” Neal panicked for a moment. “Nope hold on let’s take this to Peter’s office.” After he managed to herd all three of the Agents into the office, he closed the door, and took a deep breath.

“What happened yesterday?” he asked again.

“Well, we had the sting, you ran into the place and set off a bomb.” Diana explained.

“I did not set off a bomb. I simply failed to disarm the bomb…” His voice trailing off.

“Then Robin showed up and we talked to him for a little bit, before he got Zatanna to come and take him somewhere else.” Jones added excited.

“But that still doesn’t explain how you think that I am Nightwing?” Neal said figuring he should at least try and save his cover, even if his reaction so far had probably blown that idea by now.

“Zatanna said you were both Robin and Nightwing.” Peter added. “I’m sorry I interrupted you, I didn’t know you actually could disarm bombs.”

“Yeah, that is a Robin 2.0, skills of survival, level course.” He joked even though none of the people here would understand it he knew Jason would like that one.

This wasn’t so bad, at least now they knew that he wasn’t a criminal so maybe that would get Peter to trust him more.  He knew that he was going to have to tell Mozzie and El too, there was no way that it wouldn’t get mentioned in their presence now. It was actually a relief to let them know. Dick began relaxing a little at a time, he trusted these people. Convincing Batman to let them know more, seeing as they were the first real friends he had made not in the hero community, was a challenge but one he willing took up.

All of a sudden Jones paled for a moment before he silently cursed under his breath. “Oh, F*k me.”

          “What?” They asked.

“The last stakeout, oh my god, I said that thing about eating out Nightwing’s ass. I can’t believe I said that to Nightwing himself.” Jones groaned again at the memory.

Dick just started to laugh. “Oh yeah that was priceless, I almost couldn’t keep a straight face. I’m pretty sure that is why you couldn’t stop talking, you had to tell Nightwing while you could. My boyfriend laughed his butt off when I told him about it. Don’t worry I’m totally used to comments like that Jones. I only get mad when people start perving on my brothers especially when they were all still under-aged.”

          “You have brothers,” Peter asks.

“Yeah, most of the Gotham vigilantes are related to me, Red Hood, Red Robin, Robin and Signal are all my brothers.” Dick smiled thinking about his big chaotic family. “Don’t forget my sisters too, Black Bat and I think we are counting Bat Girl now as well, you don’t want them mad at you ever it will be the last thing you do.”

“I thought the Gotham heroes didn’t kill people.” Diana said.

“Oh no, we don’t but you will be scared for life, they always get their revenge, often with glitter.”
